Any Irish predictions? :) What essay/poem/story could come up? I've a feeling Dís will come up for the story, and hopefully something on the recession/problems for the essay. Wouldn't mind sport/the Olympics either.

My Chemistry teacher gave out a sheet ages ago that I've been meaning to type out since. These are his predictions for the experiments.

    Q1:
    - Redox: Potassium Manganate Vs Ammonium Iron(II) Sulfate
    - Acid/Base: % Water of Crystillation
    - Water: Biological Oxygen Demand
Know how to prepare/use a solution, volumetric flask, pipette, conical flask, indicators used, colour changes, calculations.

    Q2: (I know this isn't narrowed down much :P)
    - Ethene/Ethyne
    - Ethanal
    - Ethanoic Acid
    - Chromatography
    Know calculations for % yield

    Q3:
    - Determination of relative molecular mass of a volatile liquid
    - Heat of Reaction NaOH vs HCl
    - Rates of reaction experiments
    - Redox Tests
    - Suspended/Dissolved solids + Free chlorine in swimming pool water
    - Anion tests/Flame tests

I was under the impression that the Ethanal/Ethanoic acid experiments couldn't be asked because of the dichromate?

No, they're still on the syllabus so they can still be asked. They just can't be performed in the lab.

Chances are the actual preparation won't be asked in Q2 but we can still get the further reactions - that's what my teacher is predicting.

Cool, great sheet, don;t mind if I use it eh? ;)

BTW... It was kind of bugging me, but for the Glucose + O2 (respiration eqn at the top) don't forget that the main end product of the reaction is

    ENERGY!

Tis the only reason we respire, don't ya know... :D

Otherwise, Kudos to your múinteoir... Great sheet!

    English Paper 2

Would Plath, Rich and Heaney be enough ???

What Hamlet questions should I learn apart from deception ???

I'd say cover Kavanagh and maybe Larkin too just to be safe! Eh Characterisation of women, Theme of Revenge, Hamlet's Madness, Conflict between Hamlet and Claudius, Character of Laertes, Character of Polonius and The Importance of Soliloquys. There's a pretty big scope for q's in Hamlet but thats what I'm studying! :)

hiiii. i could be totally wrong, but has there not always been a woman poet on the english paper? so if you study plath boland and rich would you be ok? i plan on studying heaney aswell but just wondering...

Theres kind of an unspoken rule that theres always an Irish poet and a woman but this could be the one year that they mightn't put either on! Im not gonna take a chance anyway!

Yeah I was thinking that as well but I can't see Boland coming up again so I might just learn Plath, Rich and Heaney.

Still, bit risky, be sickening to open up the paper and see 4 poets you didn't have a clue of.

I hate that I'm on here instead of studying..........

a friend told me that the dictatorship and democracy q "to what extent did Hitler's foreign policy lead to the outbreak of ww2" has never come up and it seems like a pretty obvious one. Its a really good essay to do but somethings aren't in the book that you need to know like the Hossbach Memorandum where Hitler discussed war plans and stuff.

Also Nazi anti-semitism hasnt come up?? seems pretty standard with kristallnacht and Nuremberg rallies and stuff. Yopu could also throw in that Mussolini only became racist after the rome-berlin axis and the pact of steel, then he brought in the charter of race in 1933.

Land reform and all the land acts haven't come up since 2008 and once you do it its a good essay to have and fairly easy to remember. That with the 1885-86 elections essay should cover a good chunk of Parnell also!!

Any tips for Sovereignty and Partition would be good if anyone has them!!!

Eucharistic Congress, strengths and weaknesses of Michael Collins, Rise of Sinn Féin/Fall of Home Rule, What lead to the Partition of Ireland in 1920s? and maybe one on Treaty Negotiations! That's what I'm studying anyways!

French - Misuse of drugs in sport (olympics) and global warming. Oh and my friend is convinced we're going to get a diary entry on what we'd do if the world actually ended in 2012 :P

Irish - Institute are saying coras oideachas , bas ar na boithre and drink/drugs are favorites.

English - V&V and Lit Gen. I think. Poets will be Heaney, Rich, Larkin and Plath.

Physics - Capacitance and/or resistivity for electricity. Doppler Effect. Planetary motion. Photoelectric effect with Einstein explanation. Boyles law has to come up in experiments!

Right there ye go that's the best I've got so far :)

Coras oideachas came up two years ago.. My grinds teacher gets it right every year. I think racism, technology because steve jobs died or maybe social problems in general

What does your grinds teacher say will come up in Irish?
So far I think I'll do the enviroment, drugs in sport, education/health system and survival of Irish language.

I've just done an essay on the language but like, how much has it come up? Seems it only came up once :/ And its so not useful for any other title at all :|

We've done language/sport/president/poverty. My teacher's done none of the exams/preparation she kept talking about, really starting to get a bit nervous but ah well

On a related note, what are you guys studying for an triail? we've done 0 on minor characters at all, so...yeah :L

It depends on the college you're going to - check the admissions information in the prospectus. Colleges have general entry requirements as well as those for your actual course, and you have to satisfy the general ones first. Certain colleges will accept foundation maths, others won't, but it should be in the prospectus, or if you can't find it, ring their admissions office and check. :)

The only real essays we have prepared for Irish are basically the problems in Ireland-Recession,Homelessness,Racism,Drugs and Travellers(Tied in with racism really) :P He seems pretty confident if we are prepared for these topics we will be grand :/

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 338 ✭✭deathbythelc

Reading all of your Irish essay topic predictions makes me even more glad that I moved down to OL. :D

yeah think ur on the ball with them topic.. The only thing about getting an essay on problems is you'll have to twist it and prob make mistakes..Like hope on the horizon came up last year so it would of been hard enough to write a good essay.. Racism came up in the mocks too so it may appear.. u could learn problems as a backup

Has anybody got any predictions for geography? Help needed badly.. :/

    @Sinenichuig

My Geography thinks a question on earthquakes/plate tectonics is almost a guarantee this year due to all the earthquakes around the world recently.

For Regional Geography, culture in a region came up in 2006,2007,2008 and 2010 so I'd say there is a good chance of it coming up this year.
