I definitely heard a Cork accent. I would put money on it.

It is on the Mallow Road. It happened last Saturday, I saw them all arriving at the starting point at about 7.45am on my way to work. I just thought it was a bunch of travelers trying to find some place to trash live for a few months.

This is where the race began.

And this seems to be where it finished, according to their video.

Apart from anything else, it's cruelty to horses, they are not designed to travel at high speeds in tar roads with traffic all around.

what law did they break they were hardly speeding

what law did they break they were hardly speeding

Wrong side of the road, reckless behaviour, failure to comply with a gardas direction. Then the vans, careless driving, dangerous driving, failing to stop, the list goes on.

Did you not notice the fact that the people taking the video were on the wrong side of the road, with oncoming traffic? So much on the wrong side they eventually ended up in the opposite verge?

Its not often you see trotters so well cared for the even had on tendon boots! Alot of money goes on them races. But going at that speed on the road will ruin the horses joints not to memtion if the breaked suddenly the guards were even worse trying to slow down the travellers in that way its not the horses fault they are going that speed or even pulling a sulkie if they were smart the shades would have called for back up driven on abit and barracade the road giving the animals time to break instead of letting the horses crash into them like that and they say the tinkers abuse horses what the shades did was far worse

Their could have been a fatal accident at several points there. The horses should have been killed to save human lives.

I think the 2 eejits driving the sulkies should have been killed if anything not the poor horses they cant help who there owners are

Only in Ireland would the Gardai hammer seven shades of sh1te out of innocent honest law-abiding students yet allow the likes of these detritus of society run amok on the public roads.

The Gardai have their priorities all wrong and how I'd like to see them baton charge these scumbags and hammer them senseless.

Gardai display power best when intimidating others.
    These boys were not intimidated.
Gardai knew that they would respond.
Amazing how you and I can get penalty points doing 10 miles over the speed limit and these boys walk away.

And travellers wonder why some people hate dislike them and their ways. They can't argue here that the 'majority' of travellers are fine.

Whatever about the horses, I feel sorry for all the people who came across that convoy covering the whole road and heading for them!

If you ignored a police car like that in most other countries in Europe, you'd be opening yourself up to serious consequences.

If you tried that in France for example, you could be 100% assured that the police would :

    1) Absolutely bring the situation under control (with serious physical force)
    2) The horses would have been impounded / confiscated.
    3) Everyone involved would have been arrested, if necessary with the riot police involved - tear gas etc.
    4) YouTube footage would have been used to bring prosecutions.

The US police would probably have just opened fire!

This isn't funny, it's just total lawlessness and it put hundreds of road users in danger, not to mention that it's extremely cruel to the horses.

Given that this is on YouTube, there are plenty of images of regs etc, the entire traffic law book should be thrown at them!

I agree 100% The gardai need to take action with this problem aldough its not an easy job they have they have little way to defend themselves i mean pepper spray come on!! they need to be armed to get respect... If that happened anywhere else id like to see the outcome:D:D

maybe someone should write a strongly worded letter then to the manufactures of the horses then about future design decisions

The majority of Gardai are fat lazy cowards and bullies. We see plenty of footage of them battering students and ordinary local people down at the likes of Rossport (or Ballinaboy...See The film "The Pipe"). Funnily enough, I've never seen any footage of them going into gang areas like Moyross or Drimnagh and using similar force to break up those gangs. Battering protesters is a day out for them and something to laugh about with their mates afterwards.

The footage of the unconscious girl in the student protests being dragged out and dumped on the side of the road is disgusting.

A lot of them are as bad if not worse than the criminals. That's my personal experience of them.

2 Points... 1: that's a reason right there why we need more Gardi
and 2: i think the officers there, i counted 2 patrol cars, 1 traffic corps car, made the best out of the situation by alerting all the law abiding citizens to the utter lawless that was unfolding ahead of them

And why not then arrest the travellers involved at end?
    Because they were intimidated.
    A little frightened it appears.

How many do you think it would have taken?
Double the amount of cops in the country and they still would have done nothing in that situation. God forbid though that you do over 1 kilometer over 50 kph on some some clear straight, ridiculously speed-limited, deserted road at 3am in the morning. Especially if it's near the end of the month and they need to get their quotas filled.

And no, I've never been done for speeding or any traffic, or any other offence. However I have been pulled over and physically pulled out of a car by gardai.......because the girl in the passenger seat beside me rolled her eyes when they pulled up along side us and made obscene gestures at her. They spent a good 10-15 minutes (which is a long time to be standing out in the cold on a winters night) interrogating me with nonsensical questions and threatening to being me to a garda station about 25 miles away for a breath test just to be cunts, having spent 5 minutes going around the car trying to find something wrong. They thought they'd hit the jackpot because the car had no NCT cert....despite the fact that it wasn't old enough to have one. Of course, me pointing this out to them was not allowed. I was raging i didn't take their ID numbers, but at the same time I know I'd have been wasting my time because they'd have made some sh1te up saying I was dangerous driving or something.

We often say "Only in Ireland". We just don't know, other countries have "only's" too... :-)
I'm new here anyway. I'm from Dublin 2. It is nice to meet all of you here.

give a guess how many Gardai were assigned to the Anglo Irish Bank investigation?....

    Answer:.... 11

The worst financial scandal in Irish history and perhaps even in the entire history of Europe is being investigated by a smaller team than most countries would assign to investigate a rural post-office robbery. Is it any wonder that Anglo staff have failed to assist the investigation and in some cases deliberately obstructed it?

Meanwhile we have a couple of squad cars chasing 2 horses down the road
How many guards have the education/skills necessary to understand the Anglo investigation? There's probably only a few dozen people in the country who could actually make sense of it.
