What sort of case are you thinking of?

(If it's a Thermaltake: No, no, and frakking no.)

Its a good idea. No room inside, though you're not going to be sticking a SLI setup in it anyway. Even if there are no fans I think dust will still get in and but it looks a bit dated.

What do you thing of ASUS warning customers not to use the likes of P95 to strees test overclocks on IvyBridge? I'm no expert on overclocking but they do seem to be very concerend about the damage it could do.

Thermaltake might have improved recently, but with virtually all of their previous stuff, you only bought it if you wanted a sure-fire way to ruin hardware. It was very leaky, and very bad quality.

I looked at that case back in the day too. It's probably a bit on the expensive side now though, no?

Yup, I've seen that too. :P I've been thinking about building an office PC in that for my dad at some point. Have to wait until the next time he calls me saying the computer's getting very slow.

LOL, and there I was thinking Gigabyte might have got their act together.

Has anyone any experience with Samsung screens lately? Do they have probs with light bleeding?

I have to get new screens soon as one of mine is dying, and was looking at the the S27A950D. Seems to review well and its true 120Hz.

I actually haven't been keeping track. I don't think so, really. It sort of stopped with the introduction of closed loop watercoolers (H50, etc.)

What are you looking at building, exactly? I'm sure I could come up with a parts list. :P

So.. Linux, I've never tried it before and I want to see how it is.
However I don't want to go through the hassle of uninstalling Windows, and having to re-install it later.
Is there away to have both of them installed at the same time? Dual Boot I think its called, not sure though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,181 ✭✭✭Serephucus

You can dual boot, or you can run a virtual machine (VM)

For this, you can download MS VirtualPC, and a Linux disk image. You then create a virtual computer in VPC, and load the ISO. This gives you a Linux computer "application", if you like.

Google is making me confused.. never used any OS other than Windows so I have no idea about any other one..
Are Linux and Ubuntu the same thing? Or is Linux a company that created Ubuntu.. something along those lines anyway.. can't get a straight answer from google.

Not really looking to build anything tbh. One day I'll will do water cooling so hope that I could find an easy alternative way hence the cases I linked above

Linux is the base OS, Ubuntu is what's called a Linux Distro(bution) - a "flavour" of Linux. It's the most popular, and a good starting point. There's also Mint, Fedora... lots. :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,861 ✭✭✭FlyingIrishMan

So which one of these should I download?

Kubuntu and Linux Mint are nice, easy distributions to use.

Does anyone know where i would find a calculator with decimal to hexadecimal and binary conversion ?
Very hard to find on the web because "programmers" calculators are confused with those expensive graphic "programmable" calculators

Thanks, I was going to go with Kubuntu first, but I decided on Fedora as its a much smaller download and I'll finish downloading it tonight.
Then I'll try Kubuntu, thanks :)

The inbuilt calculator in Windows (7 at least) does conversions for you.
From the View menu change it to the Programmers view.

Or if you need a physical device any good Scientific calculator will do conversions too.
Here is the Sharp user manual, it details the info on page 25.

Not too sure about Casio or other brands as never used them :)

    Just on AMD's website looking at the HD 7850. It says the below;
600W power supply (or greater) with two 75W 6-pin PCI Express power connectors recommended for AMD CrossFire™ technology.
    Source

Will this XFX PRO650W Core Edition PSU be enough to run two OC'd HD 7850's and an i5 2500k @ 4.5GHz?
