    I went with the Xonar D2X in the end. The SP2500 seem to have been given some great reviews and there's a good few features with them that will come in handy for me, especially late night mode (I have some grumpy neighbours!). I'll let you know what i think of them and if they're worth the outlay.

    I got the Logitech Z506 5.1 and I have to say I'm very impressed with them especially for the price.

    When I game at 1/4 volume it can be heard in the kitchen,and at 1/2 it can be heard clearly by the neighbours lol

    And at full? :eek:

    Had it at full for all or 3-4 seconds because it neat deafened me lol

    Probably not the best time,a chopper was shooting rockets at me in BF3,the other half told me she was in the sitting room and ran to the window to see the helicopter that was flying outside the window lol

    if (brand != (lidl || aldi) && hardwareQuality = high){
    loud = good}
    else{
    string Brian}

    Not to overdo it or anything.

    No need for parentheses on single line if statements!

    Habit. One less potential thing that could go wrong. Handy when you're trying to debug hundreds/thousands of lines. :P

    Your indentation is the worst :D

    So whats the story with integrated graphics on the i3/i5? I want to do a build late summer and but can only afford something like this:

    Item|Price
    BitFenix Merc Beta|€31.61
    Super-Flower Amazon 80Plus 450W|€40.88
    8GB-Kit G.Skill PC3-10667U CL9|€34.67
    Seagate Barracuda 7200 500GB SATA 6GB's|€65.76
    ASRock Z68 Pro3 Gen3, Sockel 1155, ATX|€81.59
    Intel Core i5-2500K Box, LGA1155|€189.79
    Shipping|€18.99
    Total|€463.29

    I run 1080p and if I could survive on integrated graphics for a few months to run a web browser and program then that would be great and my underlying parts would be future proof! Id eventually get a 150 -250 graphics card for gaming later on. (I have all the other bits I need)
    EDIT: I should probably ask a question. Would the integrated graphics get me by? Nobody really mentions them, apologies if this is a dumb question.

    Hey, it's a web browser. Indenting is a pain to do on forums. :P

    Yeah, integrated will be absolutely fine. People here really don't give it enough credit. You could probably play games like Unreal Tournament 2004, Return to Castle Wolfenstein, etc. fine at 1080p, so officey stuff will be fine.

    Maybe look into a Z77 board whenever you end up buying? Might as well get the newer stuff, as it's only about €10 in the difference.

    Cool I can convince the missus so. I can get this rig with i3 for €345 or i5 for €460. Time for decisions and negotiations.

    Yeah that board seems to be recommended more and more around here. I must go research how adding in an SSD works I've only ever used a computer with one drive, it must be messy with two?!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,181 ✭✭✭Serephucus

    Well there's a couple of ways you could do it. With Z77 you can add an mSATA drive directly to the board (where the northbridge usually is) and use it as a cache or stand-alone drive, though there aren't many options out there (yet) so maybe a traditional SSD would be cheaper.

    What sort of size were you thinking of? For just an OS drive, you'd want at least 32GB. 64GB will give you room for your OS, and probably all of your non-game applications. 128GB and up, and you can think about adding games and the like as well.

    If you want a cache 64GB is the biggest.

    In the current financial situation I was thinking I could even scrap the Segate 500GB and add in a M4 64GB for OS and Apps. So I would live light on storage and graphics until I can afford to add them in. It would mean a noticeable boost in performance and I could use my external drive for media.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,181 ✭✭✭Serephucus

    If you can get by with 64GB, yeah, then it would be a good option. You could also add a slightly slower 128GB OCZ Petrol drive, if you wanted more space. Going for only €108 on HWVS.

    (Good god, when did SSDs get so cheap?! I bought a 128GB M4 last month for €155. It's €131 now!)

    a 64gb SSD and some integrated online storage works wonders. my dropbox is 25gb and its damn handy. all documents etc in there just fine.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,924 ✭✭✭✭ShadowHearth

    Ssds becoming really cheaper now. I would really consider to add one more ssd just for steam etc. how do 256gb prices though? Do those go down too?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,924 ✭✭✭✭ShadowHearth

    Just went on komplett website amd looked at ssds. I really like what I see :D.

    180gb intel ssd is around 230eu

    256 crucial m4 is at 277eu.

    Maybe we will see a 256 around 220eu mark soon? I would take one for games at that price!

    Not great, seeing as the 128 Crucials are less than half that now. By rights the bigger capacity SSDs should be less than twice the price.

    There's not enough demand for them yet, and denser memory is more expensive, so that's where that comes from. At the rate prices are going though it doesn't look like it'll be too long.

    You could fit all your games on a 256GB drive? Lucky you. :P

    Edit: Mind you, the 512GB M4 is only €538...

    Well for games 256 would be perfect,
    I am not a fan of having 5 million games at the time. I just have few games I play and redownload when I want them. I am living with 60gb ssd + 500gb hdd and I got 230gb free, so I am not a very heavy user of having lots of crap in my pc, I keep it tidy :D

    There is still way to go down, but it is a good sign. Looks like hdds starting to drop too now.

    Just having a look around adverts there and came across this cowboy here http://www.adverts.ie/shops/leinsterpc/

    Any body feel like reporting him to Microsoft... and Adobe... and AutoDesk... and bitdefender, the list goes on :eek:

    I have less than 200GB free on my 1TB drive :o

    (I blame Fraps and being too lazy to clear my downloads folder)

    Some how I'm missing 10GB off my SSD.
    I went into it on My Computer and it says 13GB left, when I go into it, and select all items on the SSD, then and go to properties, it tells me that everything on the SSD only takes up 39GB, which means I should have 25-ish GB left.

    Anyone have an ideas where that 10-ish GB are? Hibernation and Page Filing is turned off.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,181 ✭✭✭Serephucus

    Pagefile, System Restore, Hibernation, Shadow Copies, or a combination of all.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,861 ✭✭✭FlyingIrishMan

    Yeah, just found it there. 13GB of temporary files, not sure how that happened :P

    Which do you guys think would be better, 3 22" 1080p TN monitors, or 1 Catleap/one of those fancy DELL ones?
