Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    THE RIONEGRO INITIATIVE
Rionegro continues to be ravaged by civil war. President Catano remains in a coma. Former Vice President Munoz heads the Republicanos who hold most of the south of the country, including the political capital San Pedro. In the north, General Veron leads his “Patriota” Government of Rionegro from the commercial capital of San Luis. Following 18 months of often brutal fighting, neither has been able to dominate on the battlefield.

Now, after several weeks of preparation, Munoz’s Republicanos have mounted a large offensive with the aim of seizing key positions in Rionegro, and breaking the Patriota army. The push has comprised of a series of rapid thrusts against high value objectives. These have had mixed results. The most successful in the centre of the country has led to the city of San Luis on the Rionegro river being encircled and cut off.

In the east the Republicanos are attempting to reach the Lomo Plata mining region through Patriota held territory. After several days of rapid advance the leading elements have reached to just outside the village of Astroga at the foot of hill 143. With their flanks exposed, and having lost contact with their supply lines, the advance has been halted for the moment. Time is needed to consolidate gains, and bring up supplies. Tomorrow the advance will resume. That is, unless the Patriotas can reorganise themselves enough to counter attack and halt it. But there is more than just the fate of the advance at stake around Hill 143...

What is this: A story driven, 27 hour airsoft event with ammo limits, simple medic rules, vehicles, and pre-assigned teams. This is not a full MilSim, but there will be opportunities for LARPing and more. We continue to want to give people something different to the usual weekend skirmish. This is a chance for players from all around the country to meet new people, and play in a bigger event without having to travel abroad.

Last year’s event had over 150 people, we expect this one to be even bigger.

Where: Bellurgan Park, Dundalk, Co. Louth.
    When: August 18th and 19th.
    How long:
    Sign-in and chrono: Friday 18:00 to 00:00, Saturday 09:00 to 12:00
    Game WILL start: 11:00 Saturday
Game end: 15:00 Sunday, followed by post game BBQ.
How much: €60, €50 with discount for early registration, which includes the post game BBQ.
Registration: Will open on Friday June 1st at 12:00.
Age limit and other restrictions: Over 16's only, and mid cap magazines only. NO HI-CAP winding mags this year. As Rionegro is subject to a UN backed arms embargo and no fly zone, players cannot bring aircraft, heavy weapons or armoured vehicles. Small arms and support weapons only. Bio-BBs are required and will be available on site.
Camping: Camping will be possible on site from Friday night, with toilets and showers.
    What are the factions:
Munoz' Republicanos, made up of scout troops, light infantry, heavy weapons specialists and the feared penitents punishment unit.
Veron's Patriotas, comprising heavy infantry, recon forces, and a unit of private military contractors.
    The Astroga Revolutionary Militia.

    More Information:
More information will be provided soon, including detailed descriptions of factions and units, updated rules, how to apply for leadership roles, and how to pre-book. Look for information here and on the official event sites:

SUBJECT: MUNOZ GIRDS FOR HIGH-RISK IN RIONEGRO

    REF: A. SOLES 3115
    B. PEDRO 1428
    C. PANAM 3175

Classified By: Pol/Econ Counselor Mark Wong. Reason: 1.4 (A),(B)
    and (D).

    1. (C) Summary: Indications suggest that Munoz’s Republicanos
are preparing a military offensive in central Rionegro in the coming
weeks. Munoz feels ever more compelled to act to regain the
initiative in the ongoing civil war.

VP Munoz told Amb. Yamamoto on Apr 14. that the Republicano
military would return to their mechanized infantry roots to prosecute
a sustained, mobile, multi-pronged military campaign against Veron’s
Patriotas rather than continue piecemeal operations. The
Republicanos have been steadily building up their forces in the
central provinces and have intensified their military cooperation
with the government of San Soles.

While the Republicanos should be able to muster a larger
(perhaps 15-20,000) fighting force than the Patriotas, the Patriotas
appear to be marshalling a credible force of at least 5,000 well
trained professional soldiers as a strategic mobile reserve. Recent
illegal arms shipments of ATGMs from outside the region have
equipped the Patriotas to offer effective resistance to Republicano
AFVs. The Patriotas may also enjoy an advantage in terms of the
motivation of its fighting force. The Republicano Army for its part,
are still coping with recent morale problems.

VP Munoz has gone to unusual lengths to unite several of Rionegro’s
major political parties behind him as he prepares for the coming
battle. However tensions and distrust lingering from his assumption
of power last year, and a crackdown on internal opposition ultimately
    undermined this effort.

The bottom line is that the Republicanos could begin a significant
offensive in Rionegro in the coming weeks, which may prove more
difficult for the Patriotas than many now imagine. End Summary.

My dictionary defines "clashing" as "taking precedence over". Ergo, "Balls, taking precedence over the AI500 in the UK". That's about right, except for the "balls" part :D

That said, Rionegro Initiative is a milsim event, as opposed to a sunday skirmish labelled as a milsim event like the AI500 :p (that's me poking fun, before anyone gets their knockers in a knot, as some are wont to on boards)

After almost a year and a half of fighting, the “Republicano” movement of former Vice President Munoz of Rionegro is suddenly on the verge of accomplishing two of its premier goals — securing the rival “Patriota” capital of San Luis, as well as the revenue producing Eastern mining region of Lomo Plata.

The speed and firepower of the latest Republicano offensive, which resulted in the seizure of large swaths of territory, was unexpected. Even before the fighting made headlines over the past few days, town after town in the center of Rionegro had been falling to Munoz’s soldiers. Some 20,000 people have been displaced in the last week alone.

The Patriota Army, largely composed of regular pre-civil war professional soldiers, which had previously held it’s own against the mixed conscript and volunteer Republicanos, has found itself facing a more aggressive and determined enemy. Previously little had gone the Munoz’s way. His forces have faced an international outcry over use of illegally smuggled surface to surface missiles, and their out of control brutality towards non-combatants and opponents of his government.

There is little question that the Republicano successes have the potential to change the course of the ongoing civil war. With only 60 kilometers now left between Republicano-held territory and the Patriota capital, San Luis, it appears that the only thing blocking the rebels is some strategic or political calculation. The volatile security situation has enabled the third parties such as drugs gangs to secure large new financing through kidnapping and trafficking in drugs and weapons.

Rionegro, with rival governments, a divided army, deteriorating law and order, and little hope of outside intervention, is fast becoming a failed state.

Might I recommend making a Facebook page for this event if there isn't already one? It would be a handier way of putting out announcements, and reach more people than just those here on boards :)

The Bellurgan guys will have a FB page for the even on their section.

For those that don't have Facebook access (and there are a lot) we are posting details and taking enquiries across 4 different Irish discussion sites.

Feel free to throw up any questions here though.

    Hi,
I've noticed that there is no ESS faction this time around and I'm just wondering, storyline wise, is the PMC faction under Veron's command the same PMC faction from the last event?
Also how large will be factions be?

As Tomazas said the ESS unit will be part of the Patriotas this year following an agreement between his government and the Gollybruton mining company (that scumbag Veron has sold out and pawned our children's inheritance to robber barons and murdering captialists/Veron has cleverly leveraged the revenues from the mines to fund the defence of democracy and give our children a future - depending on your perspective).

While they will be part of the Patriotas (so Republicanos can shoot them on sight) they will have their own specific missions and will have a degree of freedom within their faction's chain of command.

For background, we have made some changes to the game from last year. Primarily:
    * Everyone will be on the same rules this time around. So there will be no specific MilSim units, and no hi-cap units.
    * The number of factions has been reduced to there are less of the problems around wondering "who are we shooting right now". The one non-aligned unit is the Astroga Revolutionary Militia (who are not exactly what they seem).
    * Campsites will be better sited and drier, and should be quieter until the second day, so people can have a better chance of sleeping.
    * There will be overall faction commanders who will be selected from the players and will have responsibility for running their entire side.

As for how big will the ESS unit be, well we have plans to scale units depending on how many attendees we get (we on't want to cap the overall size of the game). But for 150-200 players expect a unit of about the same size as last year.

That would be Shane. I am not sure that will really improve the numbers turning out for that unit.

All unit descriptions (other than the Command detachments) are now on the site.

Hey, I notice in the recommended gear section of the website it says 'PMR radios', just how essential are these?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,011 ✭✭✭sliabh

If you are going to be in a command position (Faction Commander, Unit Commander, or a Section Leader - I need to provide details here in the next few days) then they would be essential. For everyone else, you won't need them, but they can make you and your team mates more effective in the field.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,152 ✭✭✭Inari

Radios are one of those things that is better to have and not need than need and not have. They're like €50 for a cheap set, so go halves with a mate and you're sorted!

I would recommend paying a little extra for something decent like the Motorola XTR 446 (about €80), as you do get much better quality than from cheapo Aldi/Lidl ones.

And whereas a crap AEG is your problem, a crap radio can be everyone's when you have poor range, struggle to understand what is being said, and fill the airwaves with static and noise when you transmit.

    :-)

    Rionegro Needs You!
We don't describe the Rionegro event as a full MilSim, but this is not going to be your usual weekend skirmish. The main factions will be made up of different units, which may be further broken down into sections. As a player you will need to stick with your section, and follow your unit commander's orders if your faction is to achieve it's objectives and do it's part to triumph in Rionegro. This won't be an every man for himself game.

Of course we will also need leaders to command the units...

    Chain of Command
We want to have a simple chain of command as follows:
    Chainofcommand.gif

We will have 8 Unit Commanders, and 2 overall Faction Commanders. These will be selected by the Embedded Marshals before the game day. Sections will be made up of 5-10 players and will be decided on (and can be changed) on the day. Section leaders will be picked by players and can be temporary.

    What it takes
Commanders will be responsible for their commands meeting their game objectives. They will get information and high level orders from the Embedded Marshals, and they they will need to organise and order their troops to meet them.

    How Apply
I you are interested in being a Unit or Faction Commander, and you have some relevant experience, then let us know when registering. There will be a check box on the registration form "I am interested in a command position". If you want a Faction Command role then say so in the notes section. We will get in touch with interested players as the units fill up.

    ¡Viva la República de Rionegro!

The Revolutionary militia will be small enough to not warrant a faction leader presumably?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,011 ✭✭✭sliabh

Correct. They just need a Unit Commander. There is only one unit in that faction so there isn't need for the duplication.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,011 ✭✭✭sliabh

Game Registration opens on Friday June 1st at midday. This will be a 2 step process - pay and register for a unit.

    Price and Payment
If you have paid and registered by the 15th of July the cost of the event is €50. Bookings after that date will cost €60. Payment will be by PayPal and there will be a link on the Bellurgan Park home page. Make a record of the payment reference number as you will need it for the registration.

We are going to cap numbers this year, and there will be limits to the sizes of some of the smaller units. So apart from the cost saving, we would recommend you book as early as possible.

    Register for a Unit
You register for the event, and select your unit using the booking form. The link for this will go up on the Troops-In-Contact website on Friday June 1st.

You will need to provide contact details, your age (so we can see how many under 18 players we have), and your PayPal reference. Select your preferred unit, and an alternative if your first choice is full. And if you are interested in one of the command positions check that box and leave a note saying what you would like to do (Unit Commander or Faction Commander).

Once the form is submitted we will check the details and we will send you an email to confirm the payment was received, and which unit you will be in. Please bare with us if that may take a day or two. You will also be given access to the closed player forum.

    Which Unit to Go For?
The different units have been tailored to give different types of game to players, from beginners to the more hardcore. Depending on what you are after, and your level of experience there should be something here for you. As we have said before though, this game will not be like a usual weekend skirmish. You will be expected to work as part of a unit and to follow orders in that group. Some of the time you may be waiting for things to happen.

    Players new to MilSim
    • Penitent Brigade
This unit will mostly operate in large groups, and will initially be given simpler, more direct missions e.g. frontal assaults, defences. Expect more action, but over the weekend we plan to introduce more varied and demanding objectives. The Penitents will operate from a fixed base where they return to re-arm, eat and sleep.

    General Purpose Units
    • "Los Rochas" The Heavies
    • Presidential 25th Light Infantry
    • Astroga Revolutionary Militia
These are the backbone of each side. Players here will have a variety of missions including patrolling, attacking positions, protecting assets, and occasional sentry duty. You will work in groups from section size (5-10 players) up to the whole faction (potentially 100+). Sometimes you will operate independently, and sometimes you will have to co-ordinate with other groups. These units operate from a fixed base where they return to re-arm, eat and sleep.

    For Experienced MilSim Players
    • 38th Special Weapons Group
    • "Hunter Force" Recon Unit
    • Special Liaison Assistance Group
    • Executive Security Solutions PMCs
These are smaller units with more specialised roles. Players can expect more demanding and varied missions, from stealthy reconnaissance, sniper and counter-sniper activity, to clearing mines, operating heavy weapons, recovery of high value assets, and more. Mostly working in smaller sections, though sometimes co-ordinating with larger units, players can expect to spend long periods away from their bases, and may have to be ready to bring all their food, water and ammunition with them. To give you an idea of how different these roles are, last year many of these players fired less than 100 rounds in the whole game!

    Questions
If you have any questions on registration or units, ask them here.

What will be the story with the Hunter Recon Unit? I'm assuming that they will not be seeing much action and will be doing exclusively recon work as some of my mates seem to think its going to be all about launching raids and kicking doors non stop...

One for the EM to answer, but the style of play will be slower paced. There will be more emphasis on avoiding contact and observing, or probing attacks and withdrawing to report than taking ground and eliminating resistance.

Thats what I though to be honest. We will probably go for the 25th infantry then. Will they be more mobile than the Heavies do you think? They want to be moving a lot

Probably, they are invading an entire province!

But the Heavies and the Light Infantry will be fairly similar in mission profiles.

Our job ad from last year. I believe the pay is excellent, but the death in service benefits are not so good...

    Hi sliabh
What about the pmc's? What exactly are they tasked with?
A few friends of mine and myself are interested but we lack any formal uniforms (but we do have a training) and aren't regular milsim players

At a high level they will have a VIP (their EM) to keep safe. But how that happens, and "developments" in the situation on the ground mean they won't just be babysitting for the weekend. I will let the PMC EM say more.

As with last year we are going with headgear to identify units, so not having any sort of uniform won't be a problem.

Not having MilSim experience isn't a problem if you have the right mind set. The Hunters, SLAG, PMCs and SWG, are for people looking for something more than just getting into firefights (which they will do too). You could find yourself spending an hour hiding in a ditch, waiting for an enemy who you observe ("radio if there is a man with an MP7 in a thigh holster in the patrol") before quietly withdrawing without ever having been seen or firing a shot.

If you are comfortable with that style of play, then you could have fun in these units as well.

Late change to prices and payments
We have added another payment option:
    • Early booking: Register and pay before July 15th: €50
    • Normal booking: Register and pay after July 15th: €60
    • *New* Register and pay a deposit of €30, pay the balance of €30 before or on the game day.

So if you can't pay for the whole ticket now you can pay a deposit. Unfortunately we can't offer group bookings, or guarantee that people are in the same units they were in last year. Sorry.

I am hanging up the Panama this year to don the leather hat of a Penal Commissar.

I will lead stand behind the Penitents this year. Just far enough behind them to enforce discipline, and make sure they take "not a step back", but not so close they can frag me, the untrustworthy bastards.

Hey lads, I'll be your PMC EM/VIP for the weekend.

As Sliabh mentioned the ESS PMCs will be tasked with my sefety over the weekend but apart from that Gollyburton has agreed with Veron that the PMCs will help out as needed with the fight for Rionegro, in other words if the Patriota commander gives the call then the PMC forces will be helping out with the war effort.
Gollyburtons interests for the moment are my safety but if anything else arises that takes his interest then the ESS will be his armed ambassadors always ready to complete his wishes. For the moment I don't want to give too much away.

Also as Sliabh mentioned MilSim experience isn't needed as long as your willing and able to work as a team. The PMCs will be one of the smaller units so everyone needs to pull together and follow orders. ESS PMCs won't be getting into constant firefights but rather you'll more than likely be trying to find a way to out smart rather than out gun the enemy when possible.

Rummy, you forgot to mention that ESS are also tasked with the safety of your manly beard there :D
