Pretty weak compared to the last one, Glaber turning into Batiatus is great. Really bringing that part of the show back to the standard of the first two series. Ashur and his gang of thugs adding a much need bit of brutality back into the show. Didnt recognise him without the beard at first, looked a bit odd.

The new Spartacus has had enough time to do his job now and he hasnt. He's a dud who cant act or fight as far as I'm concerned. Once again made worse a lot of the time by Mira being crow barred into the thick of whatever is happening.

Everything that happened in the rebel camp seemed forced or something. Even the fight scene with Gannicus was poor. Spartacus has lost all appeal in this series and other than Agron, Crixus, Agrons new boyfriend and the women we know nobody else in the rebel camp. All the recognisable faces are gone which is rather disappointing. Ashur's new gang is 20 minutes old, not one of them have said a word and they already better characters than the rebels.

To be honest if the show was changed to be more about Glaber and Ashur trying to find Spartacus I think it would be better than the way it is now.

I'm really not seeing people's problem with the new spartacus. It was never a role that needed amazing acting. In fact I don't think Andy Whitfield was so amazing, and I know that seems bad since he has died, but really it was never such a challenging role.

The new guy has done grand,it has been very entertaining as this show only claims to be,lets face it, its was always about blood and sex to claim thrills. Yet this season has been good, the attack on the arena was great, hopefully they will show attack on the ports as mentioned.

Like I said before, the re casting of Navia has had a bigger impact than that of spartacus. she is rubbish.

I wasnt a fan of Whitfield to begin with but he made the character his own and by the end of the first series I really liked him. I think he was a decent actor and I think any lead role requires a certain level of ability. Perhaps Liam would have grown into the role as Andy did if the character could be moulded to suit his attributes but it didnt work out like that. Liam had to portray Andy's Spartacus and he's much to weak an actor to pull it off.

I'd be a bit kinder on the new Naevia after the last episode, she hasnt really got much to work with in the way of lines and the original Naevia always had a bit of a face on her anyway. I think she might come good in the upcoming episodes if she's given the opportunity. Just as long as they dont take the lazy option and try turn her into a Gladiatoress like they are doing with Mira.

I've should know but I don't, character overload

Glaber and the young looking guy, I think he's some sort of politican could not come to an agreement.
So Glaber sent Asher's new gang around to sort out him and his household

Sorry but who is he? Some official and political appointee from Rome who oversees Glabers efforts in the manhunt?

    Thanks

I'm growing to like Liam's Spartacus more in these last few episodes. He's not got a particularly strong presence but it's been building up a little.

Far more fun though are the bad guys. Ascher is in great theatrical form in this episode - he does a manic grin so very well. Running around recruiting a bunch of utter lunatics!
And Glaber is now stepping up in the villain role in a much better way. He's cast aside the boring political again and decided to go as being that bit more menacing.
In fact for the first time I felt that the two of them together made up for the lack of Batiatus.

The character you are looking for background on is Seppius.

Young guy is Seppius, I'm not 100% clear on it but I think he's a Roman of status from Capua who has quite a big private army under his control. Glaber was sent from Rome to sort out Spartacus but doesnt have enough soldiers to take him on. He wanted Seppius to join forces with him to send enough men out to put an end to Spartacus.

But Seppius is an arrogant little shít and thinks he can catch Spartacus himself, make a show Glaber who he doesnt like and gain favour in Rome. So Glaber lets Ashur put together a gang of scourges and send them over for a visit to inform Seppius that he is no longer required. I assume Glaber will now put the moves on the sister, gain control of the private army and continue on his business.

When Glabur and his officer were discussing the soldiers deserting I was expecting them to drag a few captured soliders in and give them some gruesome end as an example to others.

Or maybe decimation, they are at the house of Batiatus so every tenth solider thrown off the cliff

It didn't happen anyway, ah well and was just my immediate reaction when they talked about desertion.
Sure Batiatus beheaded a guard who lost a key and tried to cover it up so the powerful men think nothing of deadly discipline

Ya never know, Glaber might do it to his troops when Spartacus kicks their ass by Vesuvius

Hopefully :D 6 episodes in and Sepia has yet to take her kit off

Liam McIntyre is slowly getting better but he's never going to have the screen presence that Whitfield managed by the end of Blood & Sand. It's not a role that needs great acting but it does need to be able to carry off the 'I command hundreds of men and am a general badass' side of things.

The new Naevia is atrocious, I know acting is not this series' strong point but she is woeful, and the guy that Agron is in to, who's name escapes me at the moment, makes almost no attempt to hide his Kiwi accent :)

Why doesn't Glabur just write to Rome for a legion of archers or crossbowmen and then all his problems will be over?

Ashur pointed out quite clearly that the brutes are worth more than 3 soldiers each so he's going down that route now.

The lameness that is Spartacus' character this season is driving me towards rooting for Glaber. The people we know in the rebel camp are Spartacus, Mira, Crixus, Agron, his lover and some dude called Dontos. The rest are faces in a crowd, very hard to root for. If Gannicus and Onomaeus stay then it'd be a bit of a godsend from the acting side of things.

The fight choreography between spartacus and Gannicus was awful. Liam is just so cumbersome and slow.

It wasn't helped by the fact that they both dual weild swords as you miss the clash of swords striking shields. If two highly trained men went at each other like that with merely swords, it would be over in about 4 seconds. They need to give them shields. Makes everything more dramatic.

Ironically, the fight between Ashur and the soldiers was much better. Go figure.
Hopefully :D 6 episodes in and Sepia has yet to take her kit off

I know! If you had said that to me at the start of the season I would have said you were mad. I'm beginning to think it won't happen. Glaber looks like he wants some to get back at his wife but something tells me it will be off camera.

Mira looked well in this weeks episode. She is a likable character. The new Naevia is dire though. The original girl was a much better actress.

I dont understand the fascination with her. She's not attractive, she not a good actor and the character is pretty weak. One of the worst parts of the show to me.

shes no olivia wilde or charlize theron, but i wouldnt say she unattractive, plus her caracter is still developing, she was batiatus and lucretias sex slave, that was all she knew, itd be more unrealistic for her to change over night,

She doesnt do it for me, I think she is unattractive and in the show she's even more so. The problem that I have with her character is that she has changed over night. She was a slave girl and now she's this tough nut bad ass burning down arena's, fighting Romans and seems to be standing with Agron and Spartacus as head of the rebels. Its just not believable.

Plus Spartacus's character has been degraded to facilitate that. Spartacus's entire deal is that he was trying to find his wife, trying to get revenge for the death of his wife, trying to protect Varo's wife and trying to help Crixus find Naevia. And suddenly he's happy to bring his woman along on an assault on the arena ?

She may yet, she did in this http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1661099/ which coincidentally stars Ilithyia too :D

I liked the Spartacus/Gannicus fight myself but I'm loving Ashur at the moment. His fight scene was excellent and as someone mentioned it was the first episode between him and Glaber that I didn't miss Batiatus.

For me the whole series is either amusing or depressing

That was just nasty - I had to laugh aloud!

Liam's speech at the end was needed: Spartacus seems a bit like a stronger force, having confronted his band of not-so-merry men.

Be interesting to see what Gannicus does next. Glaber's not going to be happy. Should have listened to Ashur!

Ya, for me it's either Ashur or Glaber for top character so far, although Ashur shouldn't have shaved the beard, lost points for that.

Great episode. Ending was brilliant, I thought sure Gannicus was gonna walk into a trap with Ashur waiting for him.

That brawl started off great, Crixus laughing then seeing Naevia and losing the head. Then Skeletor face just has to be involved and magically develops master hand to hand combat skills to go along with it. Would she not just fcuk off ? She's a shít character, she can act for shít and everything she does in the show is over the top, stupid and shít. Grrrrrr

Ps. I hate her and she's shít

Anyone know why they got rid of the old Navea, the new one is hopeless. I start getting irritated when she comes on screen, useless lump.

She left when she got a recurring role in CSI NY I think.
