<<you can go hard or you can go home...>>

    BJJ - 2 hours
    -killer session on butterfly passing
-rolled 10 great rounds afterwards as well

Something popped in my knee - not so good. BUT I'm hoping it's like a scary tissue/tendon-y type thing rather than anything serious. Calling a PT first thing to get it looked at. No pain or that crap, but it's a bit stiff now.

Grade 1 popliteal tear - not the worst.

Apparently all my soft tissue work's been doing the job, mild ITB tightness at my knee. Mobility and strength probably saved me from worse. Happy out.

    <<1,000 clever lines...>>

    Friday - mneh

Saturday & Sunday - Weightlifting Ireland Coaching course

Monday: dead hang power cleans up to 85kg for a tonne of triples, lots of coaching gymfreak as an experiment in weightlifting and then off to Kyuzo to meet Barry.Oglesby and discuss our new bootcamp.

Kudos to gymfreak. Some nice lifting, cleans looks especially good and she was snatching a 10kg with passable tekkers which would make her look like a weightlifter to the uneducated eye. I must be a deadly coach. Exciting times!!

    <<Call yourself a DJ...>>

Spend Tuesday and Wednesday playing about with power cleans. Tried to pull my start position together but it ain't great. Knee's feeling better, shoulder's feeling ming. 100% desperately need a "program" that's exclusively clean work, rows/external rotation, core stability and uni lateral leg. Just playing about at the moment tbh.

Dunno if this'll work but here's a 120kg miss from today, missed 118kg and then got it the second time just before it.

I think Kevin Darcy is right, you need to be faster under the bar. When the bar has already started to move up your still moving up too when you need to be pulling yourself down.

Also looks like the bar moves away slightly off the floor, or at least not back toward you, might be why you missed it slightly forward. If you were faster under I think you would have caught it anyway.

See the video I posted in S&SS of Perpetchenov for serious speed under the bar.

Yeah L smashed one outta the park with reference to me not using my lats - "your lats are doing f*ck all" were his exact words. So that should help.

I think Kev's point is a great one too.

Whatcha think of the start position? Could probably do with getting over the bar a bit more?

Personally I think shoulders should be above the bar not in front at the start. I don't think you'll find many top lifters starting with their shoulders in front of the bar these days, some even seem to be slightly behind. I think the start is fine but when you separate the bar from the floor you want to shift your weight backwards onto your heels while using the lats to push the bar towards you. That will put you over the bar by the time it's above the knee. Like Byrdie says really. You'd be surprised the difference this makes. I think it made a big difference to my own technique.

Watch a video of a top lifter and you should see the above.

    20 seconds in here...

It's a long standing thing - since May 2010 like. I was at the physio with my popliteal today and asked her to check it. I'd basically self diagnosed and knew what it was anyway but wanted a confirm.

So strengthening exercises to be done, but tbh I'd say I'll end up down surgrey lane.

I thought you were supposed to stop being crocked after powerlifting?... just goes to show that when you stop being fat and strong you become a disfunctional crossfitting ninja weakling. **** buzz bout the surgery all the same man... timeframe?

Ironically, and I am 100% waiting to start an argument with an olympic lifter over this, snatching is what f*cked up my shoulder, NOT benching *shock, horror*

I'm going to give it a month or two of targeted rotator cuff work before doing anything further to see how it holds up. BUT when I got my other shoulder done it was 6 months of aggressive stretching before I got full ROM. Now admittedly I was young and foolish so may not have been working efficiently. All the same, I've been having a poke about online re: subscap sugery recovery periods and full training ability seems to be achievable in 12 weeks?! I assume that's an absolute best case scenario.

Anyway, with trying to get the training/bootcamp-y side of things going I can't really afford to be immobilised for the 3 weeks or so I'd be in a sling so it's kind of off the table for now. I want to get it sorted sooner rather than later tho, just because there's so many things which I enjoy that I'm missing out on because of it rather than for any functional benefit because I'm reasonably able to work around it. Guess you could say I want it, rather than need it!

Well my shoulder's been injured since May 2010... I've only had an official confirmation as to what it was since Thursday, tho I'd self diagnosed it a while ago! :)

Annnddddddd why are you doing muscle ups when you have an injured shoulder??!! Would have thought resting it would be more appropriate!

    Because I can :D

Sure if I was resting it I wouldn't have lifted in the last 2 years. Like if it's torn, it's torn. I'm doing all the rehabby stuff for it now like and avoiding the stuff that hurts - straight bar pull ups and snatching!

I REALLY love those wooden rings now too.

    <<The big bad wolf...>>

Foam Rolling w/ my new grid:
ITB, Quads, Hams, Lats, Upper back

    Stretching:
    ITB, calves, hams

    Neutral Grip Chins:
    bodyweight 2x5
    +10kg x5
    +15kg 5x5

    Windmills off pull up bar:
    3x6 e/s

    Toes thru rings:
    3x8

    Rotator cuff rehab:
    4 positions, 2x20

Training is going to be f*cking miserable for the next while. I really want to sort out all the issues I have and make myself healthy so I'm trying to avoid stupid stuff.

Pretended to be a weightlifting coach for a while too. i'm actually starting to enjoy it - gymfreak is making good progress.

Left calf was in BITS for the last couple of days. And then I noticed how swollen it looked. And then I measured it, and it's almost 2 inches bigger than my right. Ehhhhh....?

Strength reserve - tend to get away with a lot when you're pretty strong :D
