There's new firmware for the Thomson coming next week. Hopefully this will sort out some issues.

    Source??

Just in time if it's true as my 2nd thomson has started to randomly reboot or fall over when wireless N devices connect to it...

Oh that's the best news I've gotten in ages. With the help of god they'll enable the bridging option once and for all, to satisfy the high end users. I've my own ASUS RT-N56U router in the DMZ of the Thompson which works great but I'm dreading the day the thompson modem/router resets itself and forgots all the settings. I'm away from the house a lot and the other users would not be technically minded enough to set it up again correctly.

You know that you can create a back up file of your settings on the Thomson from within the router web interface right?

They told me on the phone when I was complaining about a load of issues. Rather than trying to solve any individual problems now, they said that the new firmware should help. Monday they said, iirc. Makes more sense for a Monday in case they have to deal with problems from the new firmware!

Yep, I have that too, I think. Except it seems to be wireless G too. It only happens with laptops and not an ipad so I'm not really sure what's going on there. Main thing that's bothering me are those password-free guest networks.

Lets just hope the new FW is not the same version currently rolled out in Holland (v1.41)...
lots of issues with non http traffic. google tans of Chello.nl post

It's doubtful. By the time we get a similar FW version here, 1.41's issues would probably be resolved with a later version.

Does the firmware get updated automatically or do I need to do a full factory reset to get it?

Automatically, pending no current usage. However, it's rolled out across the country in segments, afaik.

only that the versions between .36 and .41 (I've read about 38 and 39) weren't any much better... as in for any resolved issue something else important was broken

    Anyone been updated yet?

No update yet. Reading that dutch forum doesn't fill me full of confidence... How hard can it be to provide a decent router? What are they supplying business customers that have there own infrastructure in place?

I was just talking to UPC and they said there is NO NEW Firmware in the offing. I also know someone who work in their techsupport and he said "first I've heard of it" and "isn't there a new cisco instead and UPC are not going to allow bridge mode on any router they supply"

If I don't have new firmware by tomorrow morning, I'll ring them up and tear them a new asshole.

Most of the people there don't have a clue what's going on in each other's departments. A lot seems to go by the tech support team without them knowing (although they do try and are friendly). Things are far from harmonious on the the billing side of things either.

They told me that everyone was getting for the Thomson next Monday (i.e., today, or possibly starting today). I'd say to get a sure answer you'd have to ask the engineering team. Tech support weren't able to give me a direct answer as to the details but said it came from there.

    No upgrade for me yet....

None for me either. I'll get onto them today. If they just made that up to fob me off I won't be the least bit pleased.

My router is still stuck on 1.30.

The wifi reception range is brutal.
Have to reset it every week or so also as connections seem to hang/timeout

Has anyone found their logmein not working when using the thomson as a "DMZ" bridge. My home PC shows up connectable in my homepage, but when I go to connect, the connection just times out with no error details. I'm using a tomato router.

    Thanks,
    LK.

My thompson router rebooted today and I can't login to the router using http://192.168.0.1/ and password admin. I held down the reset button at the back for 10 seconds and it didn't make a difference?

    nvm, sorted :)

Finally got a Cisco EPC3925, After two attempts to replace the Thomson, Twice they replaced the Thomson with another Thomson even though they said they would replace it with a Cisco.

Anyway, The supervisor came out today, Generally he doesn't do installs, But because they messed up twice, He came out, Swapped out the Thomson with the Cisco.

Working perfectly, No issues, Wireless is just as fast as Thomson if not faster. Although it was mainly the random drops that were annoying.

Nice result. Sorry, I must have missed your posts previously, was it the WiFi that was dropping, or was it the actual DS connection? Past the initial issues I had with the Thomson (which wasn't very much, admittedly), I still haven't had any problem with it. I have never reset it since I've set up my DMZ mode, and I only had a connection drop once, for about 10 minutes.

I got onto UPC, one person told me that I already got a firmware upgrade and that it doesn't show up on the admin panel while another said that new firmware would be coming next week.

I'm not sure that I believe either of them.

I'm thinking it must be bordering on illegal to sell such a substandard product that can't provide the service they describe - I'm happy enough with their connection speed and everything but this router is just dirt.

    I wouldn't...

Suppose neither of them cared to tell you the version of the alleged new firmware?

according to the posts on NL forum, UPC seem to be replacing Thompson modems (after the latest fw upgrade) with Cisco modems...

Never really talked about it, But obviously others have similar issues.

It was mainly random disconnects, Sometimes when someone connected to the router, But other times it was just complete random.

The guy that brought me the Cisco, Knew what he was talking about, He was actually the manager for the normal technicians and normally doesn't do installs himself and just handles issues that other technicians have. His phone was ringing non stop and always had the right answers and solutions.

He was telling me the issue with random disconnects was because the router was being told to restart itself as a command from upc, Obviously it's not suppose to do it and it gets mixed up with basic downstream data and thing it's reboot. I have also read that other UPC territories are just getting the Cisco instead of the Thomson due to issues with there firmware.

To be honest, The layout of the Cisco control interface is just nicer to use. Fairly straight foward, But it's more of a router webpage then a crap modem page like on the Thomson. Also noticed you can set up a VPN on it router side, Not sure how well it works, Or if it even works, But the option is there.

No, they wouldn't even give me a day or a date. :( .........

My latest Thompson has rebooted twice in the last five minutes... it's infuriating. I'll be on to UPC tomorow for a replacement and it had better be a Cisco. Having said that the reports on the Cisco they're using doesn't fill me full of confidence either.

Sorry if this has been asked already, but how do I figure out what is generating traffic to/from my router?

Essentially, in plain English, I want to ask two questions:

    (1) From what device(s) did what amount of traffic go to/from the router in the last hour/day/week?

    (2) What devices are connected to the router right now?

Assistance appreciated. Sorry if these are really obvious questions.

How can I get 300mbps wireless from this router? the max I'm seeing is 144 with my wireless n devices....

This is unfortuante as I can only get around 6-7MB download via wireless. When I plug in I'll push 10. Is this router not a n300 router?

I've set it to 40mhz, lower, turned off g protection and xpress, n protection is on. I'm not sure what i'm doing wrong. wpa tkip+aes.

there's some sort of setting for nphy rate set to auto, but even on 15, where it says up to 270mbps, i won't connect any higher than half that.

    Thank you!!

If you have any other clients (computers/laptops etc) connected viq Wireless G 54mbps it will drag the overall speed of the router back to 144. Also, I believe you need your wireless card set to abgn so that it can utilise the A & G channels to obtain 300.
