Does anyone know if its safe to update a retail nand to 14717/14719? I have just installed the dual nand on my Slim and it would be a shame if all that work went to waste

seems easy enough ....but 2 questions

1=why cant i power drive with console?....or if i can ...why dont others?

2= is this thing which connects dvd drive to usb...just a normal sata adapter and can i buy them cheap in dublin......or is it a sata adapter connected to a 360 mod device then into usb port ?

Picked up a Falcon 360 yesterday off a friend. AFAIK, the optical drive is a bit finicky, according to the previous owner. Don't even have a PSU for it, so can't muck around with it yet. :(

Powering the drive via the console, means having power plugged in & no data connector. This changes a value in secdata.bin, & may flag your console for a looking over by microsoft.

Can't answer your 2nd question as I know nothing about drive flashing really.

but if im flashing it im never going to connect to internet again am I.......so microsoft wont get any info from my xbox about it.

Ive decided for now...i think ill hav someone from the mod services thread do it.....i just need to figure out if my stock laptop dvd drive burns DVD+R/DL

I remember a program like imgburn or clonedvd used to display this info...but i cant find it.

The adapter you see above with the SATA cable going to the drive is a PCMIA SATA card. It's an expansion card because the laptop doesn't have an external SATA port. If you're laptop flashing you can get one of these, or buy the X360USBPRO which will connect over USB

Any chance of a dual layer disc media quality and where to buy guide...or would that be more of a pc/tech section thing?......its just im guessing someone like TV would probably have the most useful info......I know verbitam is seen as the best but 5 discs for 33 in maplin is a bit rediculous there are TDK dvd+r double layer {doesnt actually have DL after the r dunno if it makes a difference} 25 for 30.......but from what ive read these can turn into coasters {corrupt failed burning} i got 1 memorex disc for 4 euro just to test my laptop drive.....i hear these are bad quality though.

You may wonder why i want a thread here when there is info if googled for.....

we,ll apparently the media can be different depending on where you buy it....so american or even UK info might be useless to me....or outdated

and also some info on good places to buy in dublin would be great....

    ..............................................................................

Also i suppose other types of media besides dual lyer.......like blu ray could be useful to others....i think normal dvd/cd it doesnt really matter.

The only other way i can justify the need for this is by using the xbox gold/points thread as an example.......thats helped alot of people.

The latest is LT3.0, you never know when the next update will be that patches them but just to tell you, you will need a new dvd drive(ihas 124b,are other models aswell) cant say why you need it as its illegal on here)

    RGH the console then,
Personally I cant see a reason why you would bother flashing a drive anymore.
Maybe a few years ago it was worthwhile but now with M$ clamping down on flashed drives with new protection every few months its just not worth it,
Re-flashing drives and re-ripping,patching and burning games every few months is just plain annoying.

well ...guys on here are charging nearly a 100 to RGH...and i dont know much about it tbh

    most charge 85
considering what you get for your money its better value than flashing a drive
