Good session. You've got good fitness for a strong sub-3 attempt. Will be following it with interest - London was beyond a doubt my favourite ever race, despite a not so great performance.

I know its generic, but i had to laugh at this, especially given my gambling background :D The comments below are freakishly accurate.

Weds 18th Jan, 5 mls easy/recovery in 45 mins approx (9'00). The legs knew they had a session the day before.

Thurs 19th Jan, 7 mls easy in 57'16 (8'12) down to and around Regents. Much better than last night. Held back a little as i've a tough run to do tomorrow afternoon (10 plus 6 at MP), which will free up the weekend thankfully. I think thats 100 miles up in 2012 i'm not really counting tbh.

I'm hoping I get plenty more stuff like that to justify the exorbitant £28 entry fee :p

Last year for the few months leading up to the NYC Marathon (which was wildly expensive in comparison) I got nothing but emails about ways to spend my money in endless ways related to the marathon. (An average week would see about 5-7 emails from NYRR!)

Maybe it was my own fault (I may have subscribed to email newsletters by accident??) but a real mercenary feel to that in comparison to London.

Perhaps I should try entering London next year...

Yep New York seem to be aiming to bleed you dry. With hotels, flights and entry your €1,500 without breaking a sweat. Once in a lifetime and all that though.

Yep enter London, but get someone's address in the UK. You've no chance with the international ballot.

Fri 20th Jan, 17 mile LSR inc 6 mls at MP this afternoon. Did the first 7 mls in the heath then down to the outer circle (first 9 mls done at 8'20 pace) then started the MP miles. I was held up a bit on the first one and only did 7'15 for it, then i hit normal MP for the next 5 mls (6'50-6'52 pace) to clock 41'30 for the 6 mls in the end (6'55 pace), followed by 2 mls w/d back to the house. Total 17 mls in 2'14'53 (7'56 pace overall)

Answered 4 phonecalls on the run. The family are over for the weekend and had just arrived as i hit the MP miles  Feels great to have that one over with and it leaves an easy 5/6 mls tomorrow and 6/7 miles Sunday, both of which i'd imagine will be in a hungover state :D

    C'mon Munster :)

Sat 21st Jan, 3 mls easy recovery in 25'30 (8'50) in the heath. Wrecked after the long run Friday and the drinking the night before.

Sun 22nd Jan, 6 mls easy in the heath in 49'44 (8'17). Felt much better than yesterday, a bit hungover of course :D 5 tries away from home i mean come on :P

Weekly Review, 52 mls and 7 runs. The 2 key sessions went well. Last 2 miles of the MP were a bit tough but thats expected. Not sure where i stand for Dungarvan next Sunday. I've nothing to lose by targetting sub 61 mins i think. No drink now for the next 7 days, from the final whistle in the Emirates this evening :)

    Yearly Mileage, 129 mls.

Nah i wish, day long session in the pub on the way :p

To be honest i hate Liverpool and Man Utd (because of the sheep mentality in Ireland towards those 2) so anyone that beats them makes me happy :D

I've offended 95% of Irish people with that statement :)

I'm an Arsenal man so have no problem whatsoever with your insightful statement!!
    C'mon the Gunners!
(It can't possibly be as bad as Old Trafford!!)

Mon 23rd Jan, 4 mls easy/recovery in 35'55 (8'59) this evening. During the day the legs were feeling the effects of the weekend but they were fine during the run tonight. This week is all about Dungarvan on Sunday, a moderate week is planned in an attempt at lowering what is easily my strongest pb (61'08)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,049 ✭✭✭Brianderunner

Tues 24th Jan, 7 mls easy in 55'38 (7'57) down to the circle, full lap and back. This run got better as it went on and finished strongly feeling good. Entertained on the run by the biased Crystal Palace vs Cardiff commentary on BBC Radio London. Their hatred of Howard Webb and Kenny Miller was quite hilarious. :)

20 mins core after. 2nd time doing it this year only, getting back into it 3 times a week after Sunday is the plan.

No news yet from New York? Did you email them?
Best of luck at the weekend, I'm sure you'll fly round it:)

No didnt hear anything from them yet, i should email them alright.

I'll give it a good lash on Sunday alright. No real pressure on me and i usually perform well under those circumstances. Best of luck yourself.

    Weds 25th Jan, in Reading all day at a training course so didnt get out till 8.30pm for this one. Did a tune up session on the gravel track beside Regents consisting of;

    2 mls w/u (8'40 pace)
1600m at MP (done in 6'48), 2mins jog
1,200 at HMP (done in 4'40), 2 mins jog
800m at 10k pace (done in 2'58), 2 mins jog
400m at 5k pace (done in 86 secs)

this session went really well and i was happy with it, even if it isn't the toughest in the world.

then 2 mls w/d which was cut short with half mil to go by a very painful right IT band. This has been giving me trouble since Oct 2010 but i've never had to stop a run over it until now. I was doing a lot of strengthening exercises on it over the summer/autumn but stopped since. Also i left the stick in Limerick after xmas which cant have helped. Was a little worried Weds night and took a rest day yesterday as a precaution.

Fri 27th Jan, planned to do 4-5 mls at lunchtime but couldnt resist the Djokovic vs Murray game on BBC. Got out for 2 mls in 15'52 (7'56) in the Heath in glorious sunshine. No problems from the IT band thankfully. All the stretching and rolling i did must have helped, along with the rest day.

Flying home after work this evening and all set for Sunday (i think). I'll be aiming for sub 61 but it's tough to call, the last 5 weeks have been a little erratic.

Best of luck with the sub 61.

Sat 28th Jan, 3 mls shakeout in about 27-28 mins around home in Limerick. Followed by a 4 x 80m strides. No pain from the IT band again thankfully and felt pretty good throughout. Doesn't seem to be too much wind for the race tomorrow but it looks like being a wet one, it didnt stop raining all day today.

    Good luck tomorrow!
