You need the model itself. Then a motion study done on the model, then on the eDrawing file. You need a pictorial, orthographic, and photorealistic representation of the model also. Pictorial/orthographic can be done through Solidworks while the photorealistic is done through Photoview 360. Your motion study should also view it exploded and reassembled if I remember correctly.

Start by compiling an image board. In this image board try to analyse features like shape, colour, texture, general aesthetics. Ergonomics would be an interesting one to throw in if you're feeling adventurous. You will need to explore about 3 possible designs and explain why they were chosen and how and why they changed. Identify features that make a guitar a guitar and analyse how you would transfer these sorts of features to a bottle form.
Oh, and make sure why to explain why you chose that particular theme. Even something as simple as "I have an interest in guitars" will suffice.

God damn it! I spent 10 minutes screen-capping those... ah well, maybe it'll help somebody else who stumbles on this thread in the future :pac:

Here's how you would do it on a curved surface if that's what your asking:

Sorry! But thanks that seems much easier than the way I had planned using split lines!

To anyone who thinks it's difficult to get 5 parts from a perfume bottle, you're so wrong. I dismantled one of my bottles and I got at least 5 parts from the atomizer alone. Then there's like spray caps and random other ****. It's really not difficult! :D

What is a motion study? Do we need one?

Also how are we supposed to save the exploded view? Do we even need the exploded view saved in a file, or just on the page in output 5? For now I have 2 assemblies saved, one with the bottle explded and one when it is put together, is that right?

Yeah they probably will, but you might be able to change the name that SolidWorks looks for, I know if it cant find a part it asks you to locate it, I don't know if it does that everytime or just the first time you open it with the new name. You could always reassemble it after you change the name, it shouldnt take too long. This might mess up any drawings you made in SolidWorks though, so try to save them in another format like a pdf first so that wont be affected just in case.

The exploded view has to be done out as a drawing as far as I know. Correct me if im wrong though

Yeah it does, I have it as a page in my paper project, but I was wondering if we need to save the exploded view as edrawings or assemblies or anything.

Well, we did a motion study for ours. Don't know if it's a necessary but we did it. You'll have to check that up with your teacher or look at the marking scheme.

A motion study is an animation. You can do this by clicking the motion study tab on the bottom of Solidworks and using the wizard. Honestly, as far as sequencing it all goes, you'd best ask someone who knows how to use solidworks because I honestly forget at this stage. It's saved on the model and should show up in the eDrawings then.

What would you use the motion study for? Displaying the effects of gravity on the bottle or something like that?

I think it's 5 as well. No reason for it to be any more, or any less than Part A

Nooo, all it is, is a simple exploded view, rotation, then reassembled animation.

Just double check the marking scheme. It isn't an awful lot of effort to do if you are finished the project pretty much at this stage and will impress the examiner if done right.

Is it on the marking scheme? How does it work? Do you export it as a video file or is it done within the assembly? If so, what if the examiner decided not to even open your assembly? Your hard work would go unnoticed!

I'm not a teacher, all I can say is that our class did that for our project. I'm pretty sure the examiner would check all aspects of the project when marking it out. Hey, if you have the time to do it, why not? It doesn't take that much effort anyway.

What's everyone doing for their concept? I'm doing a logo of a sport, is this allowed or do you have to come up with your own idea? Thanks.

For outcome 3 & 8 .. do the sketches need to be in colour?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3 Amstar

Just to answer a few questions.

Only one part is required for part B of the project.
No need to do a motion study, it is not required and no marks will be awarded for it.
Sketchs- can be whatever, pencil or colour or both.

What a boring project title! Managed to slug my way from Output 1 to Output 8, only the Solidworks for part B to do now.

QUESTION: Where do we list our references? Back of the project or on the compact disk? Do we even need to list our references? It says nothing about it on the brief..
