Mine's Chem 1 anyway, negative marking yeah :/
Not as bad in Chem, brutal in Biology :/
Admittedly I'm much better in Chem than Biology..
Don't get why they're only bringing it in this year though...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,555 ✭✭✭Ave Sodalis

    They're my last two!
    Biology tomorrow,
    Chemistry Wed,
And to answer question not a notion :/

So you're in my Chemistry and Biology?

The sample questions Breen gave us in Biology on Sulis have answers. Wahey! :D I'm still confused though. I'm just learning off them and a few slides.

As for Chemistry, I'm doomed with the negative marking... thankfully, I can't get less than zero, otherwise handing up the blank bubblesheet would gain me more marks

    3 down.... 2 to go.

Was viciously and violently raped by the one just now though.....

wasnt try to rub it in sorry*:o

try TX4305, examiners did there best to screw us in that one, highlight being a main part of the compusory question being about something barely covered in class and not at all in tutorials

    *ok maybe a little:p

I think the college are putting pressure on the lecturers to bring in negative marking. One of my housemates said that her lecturer doesn't want to bring it in, but that he'll probably have to bring it in in the next few years.

    Load of bollix imho. :\

I know you weren't rubbing it in. Still, get out. Close the door behind you, there's a draft, we're trying to study. :(

Steal my jokes again and I'll put you out. :P

Seriously though, what's the point of negative marking?

I stole it, and I made it better. :pac:

Well I suppose, looking at it from a strictly academic standpoint, it does ensure that if you get the answer right you actually know the information and you're not just guessing.

That said, it's a load o' bollix! :pac:

    Must be :o
Negative marking for Biology that's going to kill me,
If we weren't given the answers I'd be crucified,
Looking through the questions thinking, if you don't understand the words in the questions, what hope have you answering the questions :/
It's words like "noncyclic photophosphrorylation" that just depresses me...
    Why... :(
Looking through sample Q's and A's and thinking I don't remember these at all, in the LC I was quite good at Ecology, now...
Was always dodgy with enzymes and cycles and stuff so knowing nothing here either isn't that big a blow...
Microbiology, clueless, lecturer was so quiet!
Nail the food tests and stuff, 40 Q's on them and I'm sorted!
    I also hate plants...

I know it's taking points off the questions you get right!
You might have a vague idea of the answer to the question but due to the marking scheme you're half afraid of putting down your answer.
Trust it to come in the year I come in...
    Is Chris coming in...?
    It is time...

The negative marking was always for chemistry one with Edmond
The biology negative marking was added to make the exam harder. When I did it 2 years ago no negative marking and simple question had it done in 15 minutes (like a lot of the class). From what I know it was made harder since

    I'd like to think so,
Some of the sample Q's I'm looking at have me beyond confused.
My only saving grace is, because it's the first year negative marking has been brought in, maybe they'll go easier on the questions...
A long shot but a man can hope...

Well, what I thought would be the worst exam was actually the best! Cheers, Media Programming! :)

In and out of Biology in 40 mins :D Quickest exam ever... although if I knew some of the answers, I might have been longer...

Chemistry tomorrow :( But going home after!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,277 ✭✭✭Chris Martin

The Biology exam was infinitely better than what I was expecting,
Could've left after half an hour but piss-balled about with a few of the answers debating whether to X them or not.
    I X'd none of them.
The thought of purposely throwing away marks had me almost in tears,
When there is a one in five, or for a lot of questions I could eliminate two or three, chance of me getting the right answer I have to take it.
I'd like to think now that I've 55% passed that now :)
All dependant on negative marking too though...
    Bástards...
Chemistry tomorrow could go either way for me,
My best subject but because I haven't really studied it,
It could proper rape me also.
I'll all nighter it like every other exam I've done.
    Why break tradition :)
Think I'll go for a stroll around the city,
    Think I've earned it :)

I must admit I veered into that territory today,
When an E hasn't appeared in 10 Q's it's longer than due like...
    Surely everyone does it :))

hmm i didnt pick D with ages, its bound to be D.. every exam i do, of course it might work if the other random guesses were right.

    25% chance though...
    I like those odds...
And if you know one isn't an answer then 33% chance,
Then if one hasn't come up in about 5+ questions,
It is definitely that one :P
    Every time I do it,
    Every time...

I did introductory chemistry in first year, cant remember the name of the lecturer. Didnt have a clue about any of it so didnt bother going to lectures cos they were so boring(like all our class did) knew nothing for the exam but with the labs and the no negative marking i managed to get a c2 in it :D:D

Chem 1 and Biology 1 are the two easiest exams you'll do .. it's all down hill after that :P
Biology will take about 15mins to complete and Chem about 30min ....Simples :D Stick to the Past papers.

btw I had never done either Chemistry or Biology before

Bad thing with Chemistry is that, unlike Biology, there are very few things you can just learn off and throw back in test.
    Calculations and the likes,
Can still take a wild stab with some of them though and try and piece together bits you know as the answer is often in the question.
Having done 2 years of Chem, I'll be embarrassed if I don't pass this module, but saying this, I turned up for a fraction of the lectures, complacency , so anything could happen.
    Hate definitions and pH...
Never any good at them, can put definitions into my own words but don't recognise them when phrased differently,
And pH is just pH :P
I'll study til late hours of night and quickly review in the morning then hope for the best :D
Oh and a tip I gained from 2 years of acting the bollix in Chemistry..
Don't be put off by strange looking numbers and symbols!
Ohh Mass Spectrometry... Oh that annoys me too, frequency and wave length...
    Anyway best of luck!
& write Merry Christmas at the end of each question wishing them and their family lots and festive cheer and a prosperous new year! :D
Sh!t I wish I done that with my other tests!

I remember that exam well. You'll be grand, just take a breath and think of the question being asked. Keep the answers to the point, and maybe use bullet points later on, just to get the most important bits out.

    You'll be grand. G'luck :)

    Shade the box Q's :)
If I wasn't given an option of answers in Bio I'd be going into negative marks definitely :/
I'll glance over Chem past papers now,
I'd like to think I've a decent enough knowledge of it anyway,
The worst is out of the way now,
Just need to make the last hurdle :)

:( That sounds like the whole course. I did chemistry for Leaving Cert but our teacher for 4th year teacher was a disaster... and I mean a disaster, she was famous for being a bad teacher. We got a new teacher for 5th year... but he had to teach two years in one so didn't get much done :/ Nearly failed it....

Haha I know the parts you can learn off but calculations confuse me  I just never know which one to use and where!

Hahaha I love the idea of wishing the Merry Christmas though :D

Computer Graphics on Thursday.... seriously thinking of not going to the exam... I need to get 60+% in the exam to pass the module.... I'll struggle to get 20%... :( **** my life.

There was no negative marking for Chem1 last year but the notes were all over the place at least you have a nice shinny new book to use.

Have you not got the past papers answered aready?

    When is the exam?
