Why aren't they called winter exams?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 764 ✭✭✭floutingmaxims

Cause it's the Autumn semester. Duh! :p

I think they should be called winter, summer and repeat exams. Save all this nonsense.

    Yeah, its totally nonsensical.

    Wait! No its not.

It is a bit. In fact naming semesters after seasons is entirely nonsensical. It should be Semester 1 and Semester 2.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 764 ✭✭✭floutingmaxims

Semester 1 Exams or 1st Semester Exams just doesn't have the same ring to it. Having a season in there sounds nicer and what better foundation to choose a name upon than the pleasure it brings to our ears.

Calling it Winter or Christmas exams would make a bit more sense to me anyway. Always looking up one of those terms when looking for past papers.

What a silly arguement to be having at 6 o clock in the morning!

Got 4 exams left myself, all well spread out and all on at 4.. Dunno how I feel about 4 o clock exams tho, I always thought half 12 was the best exam time, day drags out with 4, just waiting to get over em!

It is a bit. In fact naming semesters after seasons is entirely nonsensical. It should be Semester 1 and Semester 2.

Semester 1 is autumn semester first year, semester 2 is spring semester first year, semester 3 is autumn semester second year, etc so that wouldn't work. Autumn semester is named so because it starts in autumn: makes sense!

Are you actually for real? Is there anything right with UL? Honestly, do you have a good thing to say about the place?

3 down, two to go, German on monday and managerial economics on wednesday, why did I ever choose German.

Year after year it brings my QCA down.

Languages at university are ridiculous. Im 2nd year BBS+French and im really struggling with French, regretting it big time, if I get another D this time, im going to have to think about dropping it because I dont want it to screw my QCA

Don't worry about Criminal it's marked very easily, exams are also very repetitive so ya should be well able to know 3 problem questions. Learn case law and you'll pass no bother. I switched to law 6 weeks in, never caught up at all and still managed to pass.

I'm business and German, we were 14, now were down to 6 as 8 people just dropped the German and went just for business.

I've only 6 more months of it at this stage, while I'm glad I did German in terms of my employability, in terms of me getting a 2.1, it has been disastrous. With particular note to how in my final year, the German department has had many cutbacks, so much so that they have had to amalgamate the business German with the literature German, basically meaning we Business students who have never done any literature studies before are competing on a bell curve in a final exam on literature German with students who have been doing it for four years.
    Does that sound fair????

Ours has been like that since the start and no its not fair. I mean we dont need to know French literature and film or the history of the french Language!!. Were cobined with Applied Languages, Languages, Literature and film and European Studies. At least though i was from the beginning for us.
A language is great for employability, my main reason for doing it but I can forget a 2.1 if I keep it up so I just need to decide which I want more.
