Arteta is top class, one of the signings of the season for me I was delighted when I heard we signed him on deadline day.

My first impression upon seeing Mikel Arteta in an Arsenal shirt – apart from how even more handsome he looked in the club’s colours in comparison to the blue of Everton

    Best part of the article.
Forget club ambition, history, CL football etc. If a clubs kit doesnt make you look handsome then theyre not worth signing for. And by god theyre a handsome looking bunch.

Any of you lot got any connections for Arsenal tickets? Told the little brother (upto now just a Shels fan like myself so has no Premiership connections) that he could pick any club in Europe to go see as a Christmas present and hes picked Arsenal. Don't necessarily need a childs ticket for him. Just 2 tickets.

If you're not picky about which game you go to then you might be able to get them on general sale through arsenal.com itself. Go for a match against a lower team and they'll most likely get to general sale, if they are it'll be two weeks beforehand. Obviously a connection would be better for guaranteed tickets especially if you are organising a trip over but go have look at the ticket system on the site to get an idea of how they work it.

It also shows you face value of the tickets so if you do buy them off someone you can check if you are being ripped off. Good luck.

Also: your brother has made a good choice, wise beyond his years, nurture this wisdom and a fine gooner shall be created.

    You've a couple of options;

    1) Hope that we beat City in the Carling Cup and draw the winners of Cardiff v Blackburn. You'll pick up Semi tickets then for between £10-£20 on General Sale quite easily.

    2) Hope we draw someone from the bottom 10 in the PL/someone from the Championship or lower in early FA Cup games [3/4/5 rounds]. You'll quite easily pick up General Sale tickets for the £10-£20 mark again.

    3) Go to an away game and use these - http://www.celtichorizontours.com/fixtures/football/premier-league/arsenal.aspx currently have the away game vs Bolton @ €129 each inc Hotel.

    4) Get 2 Red Memberships - either buy them at a rather pricey £36 each and then pay between £34-£100 each for match tickets or else put up a request in the Tickets & Travel forum - there are a few on here who have red memberships who might let you use them to buy tickets for games they aren't going to.

Keep an eye on the ticket section on the website in the coming weeks too; our games aren't really selling out anymore hence the likes of the home games vs Stoke, Fulham, Dortmund etc have gone on General Sale [blue circle].

I've heard tickets for the Man City game in the Carling Cup are massively reduced again.
You can get tickets for as low as a fiver i do believe.

City likely to be out of the CL and United likely to finish 2nd in their group. Suddenly we're not sitting too badly.

Probably means City will hose up in the League now if they get knocked out of Europe.

We're not exactly home and hosed either - anything but a win vs Dortmund tomorrow and we've to go to Greece looking for a result. We will qualify I think but it's touch and go whether we'll top the group or not.

Finish 1st and I reckon we'll make the Q/Fs, once we draw someone like Barcelona/Real Madrid/Manchester United/Bayern Munich, we'll be goneski.

They'd absolutely destroy us if Jenkinson, Mertesacker, Santos or Gibbs were starting. And at the very least one of them would be.

I happen to disagree. We'd be stronger in midfield as Fabregas added very little in the matches last season other than gifting Barcelona a goal.

Barca missed a hatful of chances at the Emirates. Messi could have had a hat-trick in the 1st Half.

Would you bet on that happening again?

Goals are all that matters. Last season Arsenal would've been free and clear in the league if all shots that hit the post or crossbar had gone in. They didn't and we weren't.
I don't think they'd get nearly as many chances anyway. Arteta instead of Fabregas would provide more protection for the back 4 and Vermaelen wouldn't hurt either.

So Dortmund tomorrow night guys? whats your predictions
Going to be a close game im going for a close 1-0 win :D

Provisional Squad: Szczesny, Koscielny, Vermaelen, Mertesacker, Santos, Walcott, Song, Ramsey, Arteta, van Persie, Gervinho, Fabianski, Arshavin, Coquelin, Chamakh, Djourou, Benayoun, Diaby.

    Ah come on now lad.

I'm all for being optimistic and positive, but there's no way losing Fabregas has made us stronger in midfield.

What did he add against Barcelona last year? There was nothing for him to do in attack and he's not exactly the best defensive midfielder about.

Really want to finish top of the group anyway, try and give ourselves a good run unlike last year.

Save Barce for the final. As we proved last season you can fluke a win against them once. You wont fool them twice though ;)

Diaby back in the provisional squad. I know some of you will go "Who?" but he's not a bad player depending on what day you catch him. He's either a world beater [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WqJS4FRsnA4&feature=related] or someone you'd hate to have with you on your 5-a-side team [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tmUsSr5BGKA]

Diaby has bags of ability but he just doesn't lift the head up enough and tends to take one too many touches as a result.

1 good goal against an already beaten Aston Villa side in the 90th minute makes him a world beater?

The truth is he is nowhere near good enough for a side with any ambitions of winning the EPL or the CL, and thats where we should be aiming for.

Problem with Diaby is that he has bags of ability but no natural position.

He doesn't have the passing ability or awareness to play attacking midfield and he doesn't have the defensive awareness or bite to play DMF.

He's kind of just a good footballer which for us isn't enough ... but he'd be awesome in 5 a side.

In a large part true but his inability to stay fit has ruined him, he might have been able to round-out his game otherwise. Pity.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,746 ✭✭✭✭Galvasean

I had high hopes for Diaby when he started out. He shows glimpses of class the odd time, but they are increasingly few and far between. As Pepe says, his development as a footballer has been severely hampered by his injury problems.
I'd say he'll be shipped out at the end of the season. Heck, he might even go in January if someone comes in for him, but given that he hasn't kicked a ball so far this season, i doubt anyone would be willing to take that risk.
