In the last week, Arsenal have been linked with Gervinho, Defoe, and Eto'o, is this be a sign that Wenger will revert back to 4-4-2 this season by wanting to add another striker to the club? He doesn't seem to have much faith in Bentdner or Chamakh.

Needs to buy a winger if we're ging back 4-4-2. Really dont wanna see another central midfielder pushed out wide being wasted.

Dont think there is any truth in the Eto'o or Defoe deals.
I can see him sticking with the 4-3-3 but will prob use 4-4-2 alot more, as that plan b were missing

If Gervinho is signed he will be able to provide some flexibility, as he can play up front or on the wing.

and he's direct a Freddie Ljungberg type who will get in the box.

Would love Craig Gordon to provide Schenzy some competition and push him to the next level.

Just had a glance at the young guns web chat earlier. Sanderson seems to think the Gervinho thing is already a done deal and that they are just waiting for the website/PR folk to pull their fingers out of their ass before announcing it.

I don't think that Wenger really wants to add to the squad, get the impression that he really does believe that we have the best squad in the country, but probably feels pressured now by the media, fans, and one or more of the shareholders. I do expect 3 big names to come in.

Best of luck for the new season lads. You're the one team I really want to see win the league this season (wouldn't mind Manchester City doing it either though) but I suspect that unfortunately it'll be a 3rd or 4th place finish for you.
Would love Craig Gordon to provide Schenzy some competition and push him to the next level.

If Gordon does go (which all the talk in the north-east is suggesting he probably will) then he'll be going there to be a number 1. Like I said in the other thread though, he's not fit until October so whether Wenger will bother getting him in the summer or just wait to get him even cheaper in January remains to be seen.

He'd be a great signing for you if you can keep him fit!

I think he knows its not good enough.

I agree 3 or even 4 could come Gervinho and Gary Cahill look likely and a left back and goalkeeper too.

I would see him as a number 1 for us too but I think most Arsenal fans would prefer Schenzy.

Think Gordon is really underrated and if we can get him for 4-5 million he would be great value.

OMG just read the gossip column on the BBC Sport website and this jumped out!
Arsene Wenger is weighing up the most astonishing transfer swoop of the *summer - for Joey Barton. The Arsenal manager has finally accepted the need to inject some bite and experience into his team of perennial underachievers. Full story: Sunday People

    Please say it ain't true!

    Proven mediocre goalscoring record!

    06/07 - 10 goals
    07/08 - 12 goals
    08/09 - 11 goals
    09/10 - 18 goals
    10/11 - 4 goals

He's so amazingly inconsistant as well. Such a bad idea, it's not even funny.

A goal every 2.4 games in his last 5 seasons while van Persie has a goal every 2.0 games. van Persie has a great goalscoring record and Defoe isn't far behind him!

    Cesc is on his way?

looks by that PHW is encouraging an offer.

Hope they wrap it up quickly and not have it dragging on all summer.

I wouldnt be to sure on that one, yes theyve made contact but havent even lodged a bid yet, there reluctant to meet Arsenals 45 million asking price, personally if he does go at this stage I wouldnt be to dissappointed ive grown tired of this whole saga. Plus I think it,d be a disaster of a move for his career he wont get his game at Barcelona be best of waiting about two years for xavi to start declining.

Don't like the wall paper in this new place. Needs something exciting.

    yeah.jpg

for those who did not see Arseblog this morning.
Carling Cup final, it’s 1-1, heading for extra time, the ball drops between Koscielny and SZCZ, they contrive to bollocks it up, Obafemi Martins is about to slot the winner home when all of a sudden, as if from nowhere, an Arsenal player arrives with a beautifully smouldering ‘Hecho en Cuba’, blinds the 56 year old Martins in his right eye, and as he lies screaming with eye goo dripping down his face launches a counter-attack which sees Nicklas Bendnter, the greatest striker that ever lived, slam home the winning goal from just outside the box.
Arsenal fans are happy, delirious. The trophy drought over.

“There’s only Cuban cigar, one Cuban ciiiiiiiiiiigar …”, they sing, unwilling to annunciate the name of the player involved but the player knows they really mean him. It doesn’t matter once the team has won. He puts down his knuckle duster and the filleting knife he carries in his sock, and joins the celebrations. Later, after the best part of 6 bottles of Aspi Spumante, he gets into his car and drives towards home, mowing down only three pedestrians and causing the deaths of a bus full of cancer-filled orphans as they make their way to intensive chemotherapy.

So on that basis I can see why Arsene is interested in signing Joey Barton. It makes perfect sense to me. When you’re ‘too nice’, like we are, you have two options. One is to sign a number of players who add a bit of aggression to your team, helping solidify you. The other is to bring in a man that Charles Manson would back slowly away from before hiding behind Chopper.

I'd rather see us loan Gibbs for 6 months to see if he can actually play regular football before considering him for the first team squad this year.

Get in a new LB and hold onto Clichy until January to ease the transition. I know that would mean we'd probably get peanuts for Clichy, but getting the LB position right is crucial I feel. As questionable as Clichy's decision making is a times, people forget that not every LB will adapt to our system, for starters they'd need a lot of pace to defend against the counter and also huge stamina to get up and down the line enough.

Wenger's back from holidays now so hoping to see some sort of movement in and out this week.

    Please.

The word is that we're seriously trying to get both samba and cahill, all depends on the price, if it goes above x amount, they'll get 1.

We'll probably end up with upson and campbell again.

I really can't see that happening when we already have Djourou & Vermaelen. If anything, it'll just be one signing to play along side Vermaelen with Djourou & Koscielny as backup.
