licence for young lad

can anyone answer this for me a lad who's joined our club is wanting to get his own licence for a 22 but he's 16.
he says that he'd be able to apply for a licence on his own but i thought u had to be 18 for ur own licence
is it not the training licence he's meaning about.

Can get your own licence at 16 once you've the correct security/reasons and competency course:)

As above. 16 is the legal age for getting his own full license.

A training license/cert is for over 14 - under 16s, and anyone wanting to learn on another's firearm irrespective of age.

Anyone over 14 yrs can get a training licence. Just because you are over 16 does not preclude you from getting a training licence - but it's from 16 onwards that the option is there for you to also/or get a full licence.
