Oh god do I empathise! I'm working on an essay in the library today and TWICE I've had to ask people to please stop talking. Both times, I got the dirtiest looks and two of them sniggered at me...people, ffs, you're not five anymore! Have the cop on to conduct your conversations in one of the MANY cafes on campus!
Very annoying alright, usually just in there in the morning when not too many are around.

Argh, another rescheduled 6-7 lab getting in the way of society stuff. What was this about Wednesday evenings being free? Ugh, this is the third time on a Wednesday evening now that I've been stuck here.

There's some obnoxious bitch having a fooking phone conversation in the middle of the library right now.

I ought to smack the shoite out of her brains.

jeez by the sounds of it the library seems like a right shiethole, I haven't been in there since I had to activate my account in first year, I always go to venus labs/pc labs in main building, and 95% of the time its quiet in both, with the odd wiff of chicken roll/subways

Security are there for show. They tell them to be quiet, then walk away. They just continue on talking once they've gone. Pointless. They're mainly there just to protect library property.

Exactly. I've been down that road before and know its absolutely pointless. I don't use the library very often as a result but when I have to, the noise levels do my nut in.

I have coursework due on Wednesday on software I haven't been taught how to use! What kinda way to teach is that?

Major 10-4 on that one. We had a project earlier in the semester worth 25% of the module in an application we had to learn through youtube tutorials and google.

Unfortunately I cannot agree with you there. This is a university and students have to learn how to figure things out for themselves. There's not going to be someone to hand feed you new information in real life lads...

Depends entirely on the application.......For example, I had projects to do via CAD and SolidWorks when I did my undergrad, it is the University's job to provide a means by which I can learn the software and build a skill base. Yes there is independent learning, but depending on whatever software they are talking about, it is not just their own responsibility to learn it without support. Also this isn't real life, it's University which is meant to give you the skills for real life ;-) There are very few jobs you go into where you have to learn something completely new along the lines of software.

Well put. Maybe I'm just a bit cynical from dealing with people who expect to be spoon-fed everything without trying to figure it out on their own.

Don't interpret my earlier post wrong. I've nothing against independent learning. But when you're told in week 1 "Right, download the software, make an application using it. Submit in week 5." And that's the sum total of the interaction with the lecturer on this project worth 25% of a module is a bit retarded imho.

A library is supposed to be conducive to learning. Why not get the group of students in trouble who really only come to the lib. for the last few weeks of the term "to study", when really they are only fooling themselves.

People shouldn't be afraid to address something to security if its causing a nuisance, its their job!!

In spar today, getting something from deli, some girl was trying to cut in the queue, let her in ahead of me, didn't even say thanks, just got her stuff and left. It isn't much to say thanks. (Nearly turning into Frasier Crane :P)

I prefer: 'I am wounded!!' :D But a good suggestion.

The cliqueyness of the common room can be really annoying sometimes. Also, there's always this "lol random" group that are unbelievably loud all of the time, running around the place and just being a nuisance...
