    However a record is a record!:D

Just saw Paul Buchanan set a rake of records last year in my age group....

Don't know if I could drop 6 sec to get the 1K below 3min, yet alone drop another 6 sec to get to 2:54 (his 2011 record)!

Not competing but will go down and have a look to see what the standard is like.

The main goal has to be the UK event.

You setting most of the times via rowpro or in a gym?

3.40.6 today after some other bits - poll vote fked.

Not sure why I did this as I hate the Erg for 1 or 2k. 30mins or 500m is much preferred. Same as usual in terms of no issue on 250m, 500m, and at about 650m legs start to feel it too much. Might try on 10 in a week or so.

Really not a fan of 1000m - preferable to cane it for 500m...

    Good man.

    3m40.6 - 1m50.3 pace.

You must cane it soon for 500m and see where you are at.

They do have a 100m section on the c2 website.

100m is the one to try and see where we are all at.

    It won't be pretty but...:D

    I'm going to have a play :D

which UK event? you know the British comp "BORC" is online this year?

I have my own C2 now - took up indoor rowing about this time last year to lose weight (actually Sept 2010 I think) and entered the Irish - was fun going up there in the snow - well I flew - but still had to get from Whitegate to Cork Airport  anyway - back to the answer - rowpro ;)

I did not know the event was online.

I would however prefer to do it in person so to speak - the thrill of the competition etc.

You've got some suberb times Paul!

Everything suggests you should be good for a sub 6m10 2k or even sub 6m06.

I'm basing this on your 5k which is good at near 1m40 pace. Your 1k at 1m27 pace.

The 2.5k seems slow compared to your 5k? Almost the same pace?

How are you pacing your 2k's?

Is a 3m05 comfortable for 1k for example?

Ok after rowing a few 30min sessions and working on technique as per some advice from you guys, I tried a 1k tonight and pulled 3:40 which I'm pretty happy with. I pulled a 4:14 a few weeks back going balls to the wall with what was obviously pretty bad technique.

Must be something in the air today.

It's the first time "BIRC" has been online http://concept2.co.uk/borc/ there are other events in the UK - I went to the English last year in Manchester - list of the big ones here http://concept2.co.uk/racing/major

Being there in person does certainly add to it :D

Cheers for the compliment - some of my times (esp mid distance) don't add up LOL - I have a 17k 1hour (which I am rather proud of )

My 2k is a closely guarded secret at this stage ;) but i did knock out 3 1k's on Sat at 3:04.0 3:04.9 and 3:04.9 - although I did take an 8 min break between

that's a great improvement - can i ask - what stroke rate you use? have you had your technique looked at?

25spm, nope have only had the rower a couple of weeks. I've been concentrating on getting a smooth force curve. Noone has looked at technique yet. I might try to head in at the weekend to pick up some tips.

I notice 7 people have put themselves in at sub 2min for the 1k - the world record is 2:39.6 - so sub 2min would be very, very, very impressive

Just looking at the irish 500m records.
If I can get to 75kg, I've a shot at the LW record :D
It's currently 1.33, I rowed 1.36 in jan. Should be good for 1.33 now.

Go for it - make sure you get someone to witness your weigh in and get the verification code from the PM

I think the poll is all wrong - none have done sub 2 and you are probably the only one currently sub 3.

The only think would be if people were confusing their pace with their time but that is me being generous!:D

I see on the records that Juri Jaanson is still going strong with a 2m50 for 1k in 2009 at 44.

Anyway yesterday did a 30min piece. I knew I would go off a bit too hard for where I am at right now and I was correct.

I did 7854m which was a 1m54.5 average at 21spm. Now at 7m30 in I was just over 2000m and at 15m I was just under 4000m and then it started to get a bit harder so I slowed down a bit.

So far I have never once not completed a 30minute rowing piece.

Did a bit of messing around and level 4 suits me the best for time etc.

Awesome result mate and know I can say that you did this with a low stroke rate which is GOOD.

If you can say maintain the form and do say 28 then you could whip another 10+ seconds off the time.

I was thinking this as well - your 500m suggest good power.
    Your 60min suggests good endurance.

Your 5k is basically the same splits as the 2.5k.

How are you pacing your 2k's?

Those 1k's above are impressive - two of them together and your are close to the Irish record in your age group IIRC.

Just for the ladies - the oh did a 1k and did 4m05.

First time on the machine in what over a year.

Rating 26 and it only got hard with 200m to go!

It's usually the other way round, gets hard after 200m gone!:D

Technically it's an Irish record as only one other lady has submitted a time.

It did however get me thinking as to what is the female equivalent of a sub 3m 1k?

I was thinking it would probably be about 3m30 - would we think this is about right or too low and it should be 3m35-3m40?

2k pacing is best done flat - although on race software you need some oomph at the start to drag down the split - try to hold your pace through the middle (there will be some drift) and then hammer for home from 2-300m out - easy - ye right!!! lol

That is the theory - yes!

Start and 10 - which takes care of say 100-150 metres then lenghten and basically maintain and if anything left with 200metres left - empty the tanks.

You know you can see the splits for 2k times on the c2 website - the ones entered after the races.

Shows say 2 guys with 6m10 and one guy does basically 1m32-1m33 all the way. Other guy does 1m29, 1m33, 1m37 etc.

you mean like this - my 6:16.7 to win silver medal with splits

    1) 1:35.8
    2) 1:35.6
    3) 1:35.8
    4) 1:29.5

as opposed to the guy I beat in the final stroke who got 6:17.2
    1) 1:33.9
    2) 1:35.1
    3) 1:35.3
    4) 1:32.9

She did really well to get a 4:05! She should be able to get a sub 4min in no time. I once got my girlfriend to try the rowing maching in my gym and lets just say her technique was not the best :D

Almost except the 1m29 would be at the start.

Your stroke rate is consistent but the 1m29 for the final 500m is a big jump.

How would you fare if you did a 1m30/1m31 at the start and then settled to 1m35?

it was only my second race - still learning :D

all the science points to even splits being the best way - if you start too fast you burn too much and suffer later - obviously I had too much left in my race - but coming from a rugby/american football background you have to hold something back - as i said - i'm still learning LOL
