No disrespect to Newcastle, but I'm waiting to see how they'll come through Christmas & the New Year before rating their chances. At the moment, I still expect us to finish ahead of them. They've drawn against Spurs and us, but still have to meet United, City, Chelsea & Liverpool.

    YAY! Positive goal difference!

Also, I may have a man crush on the Verminator...

7th at best. Once they go through a tough run and then pick up injuries and then have to get through Christmas we'll see where they are. :pac:

So 9 wins in 11 matches, are we happy enough with Wenger yet?

Liverpool are collapsing already, I think us, Tottenham and Chelsea are fighting for 3rd and 4th. Chelsea really haven't looked strong recently

Liverpool to me don't look like a side ready to "click", they just don't look good enough in general IMO. They sold a couple of their best players last year and bought a Carroll and Adam. Great move.
If Chelsea can stay in the top 4 til after Christmas they'll be 2nd or 3rd at the end of the year IMO. I reckon with 6 or so games left it'll be between us and Spurs for 4th with the possibility that Chelsea will make it a 2-into-3 situation.

City and United are almost certain to be the top two come end of the season, bar an implosion for one or both that is. If Chelsea continue to struggle for another few weeks while us and spurs pick up points we will be in a battle for third. Just think, a few months ago people were calling for Wenger's head and claiming a relegation battle was afoot! I'm not going to say I told you so since I wasent the only one saying it, several others did also, but it doesnt change the fact that that kind of talk was a huge overreaction to a bad start to the season. We've had a good run of results and suddenly we are looking at automatic qualification for the Champions League with it being a realistic goal.

Still a lot of football to be played and if we keep up our recent form it could get even better for us. The players seem to be gelling together nicely and if van Persie stays out of the treatment room we'll be a really strong team again.

Not only do we have the satisfaction of being right, we also didn't pull out most of our hair. :pac:

The team at the end of last season and start of this season was easily good enough for challenging for the top 4, just lost the head at the end of last year (plus injuries) and couldn't get going at the start of this year. Despite losing some top-class players and replacing them with less good players it's clear we're still good enough for the top 4.

As I said a month or two ago, I was hoping to see the team bed-in and then sign 1 or 2 huge names in January and be ready for a challenge next season.

Already though attitudes are changing, not so long ago people we'd be lucky to get in the top half, now if we're not top 4 at the end of the year they'll be looking for Wenger's head again.

I know if onlies are utterly pointless but if only the squad we have now was in place at the beginning of the season, rather than at the beginning of September

    Hmmm,

fairly early to be saying anything about the rest of the season, especially when we're so reliant on one player.

Best thing about today was that following the experiences of the last year and a half, I was waiting for the Arsenal gift to West Brom to alow them back into it and it never came.

It's not that we've won 9 of 11 or where we may finsih. The team has a spirit that hasn't been there for a long time.

We definitely need another top quality forward.

good chance to gain points on the teams around us & get up the table in the next few weeks:
    GW12 - v Norwich(A), chelsea v liverpool , man city v newcastle
    GW13 - v fulham(H), man u v newcastle, l'pool v man city
    GW14 - v Wigan(A), newcastle v chelsea
    GW15 - v Everton(H), chelsea v man city

they'll be points dropped and 12/10 points would set AFC up nicely for the away match at city.

them other wannabe's from up the road have decent enough fixtures over them games though

Ya were at nothing if RVP picks up an injury :(

Our defense isn't better but it's because (a) Santos/Mertesacker is still adapting, (b) Sagna is injured and in his place is a 19 year old who was playing in league 1 previously. (b) is the biggest reason for our defensive woes and that will be solved once Sagna returns from injury. Once our defense is settled I am confident that it will be better than last season.

Norwich will be a huge match. A good solid side. Full focus will be required to get the win. We need to get within 4th by at least 3 points and if we can do that, then bring in 2 good players in January and help the squad out and we could have a great chance. 2 spots up for grabs at the moment.

since everyone else on here says it 'wilshere will be like a new signing' :D

would like gotze signed myself and a good CF, higuain or gomez but don't think either would happen.

thank the lord for RVP, they'd still be in a mess without him.

Does anyone else wish we'd bought Kevin Phillips 6 or 7 years ago? Love to see what a player like him could've done since then with our style of play and high possession around the opposition's penalty area.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,576 ✭✭✭batistuta9

never thought about arsenal signing him even though he had a good scoring record. I'd say the player for 6/7 season's ago to make the difference would have been S.Given

Delighted with what we are doing right now, I think fans are finding it easier to relate this this squad than the last, maybe it's the obvious improvement in team spirit.

In many ways I feel Norwich away is a bigger test as to where this team is at rather than a game against a top 4. I think a won away to Norwich should give the team and fans much more belief

Arteta had a great game today, seems like a really honest lad from the interviews I've seen.

Arshavin should be sold asap, gave the ball away when he came on alot. He went back to defend a free kick and the wall was already made, but he was trying to signal to your keeper how many etc? In the end he just stood there doing nothing - just seems out of place in that team

I noticed that too and thought maybe the early kick off was first and the Arsenal-Chelsea match would be second. Two of the top four playing each other who scored eight goals between them and it doesnt warrent anything higher than third?

Sometimes I wonder if someone important at that show dislikes Arsenal. I mean surely an even like Chelsea conceding five at home in an 8 goal thriller warrants the top billing? I'd bet my last euro if the scoreline was reversed it'd be the top billing.

This has always been the case, i remember final champs league games were Arsenal hadn't qualified and they'd go and show utd or chelski who would already be through. Does my fcukin head in. Defo some boll#cks up in donnybrook that don't like the Gooners.

Watching the extended highlights on Sky Sports and must say Kos and Verm looked very good together. They werent tested much today but they looked very comfortable together.

Also, Id prefer if Jenkinson wasnt starting regularly at this stage after just joining us but hes getting better with every game. His crossing is excellent which we havent had from our full backs for a while.

with regard Arsenal getting 3rd billing last week on PSS.

Programmes keep good games until the end of the show to keep the viewer viewing. If the viewer keeps viewing until the end - there is more viewers to view the good games. (and adverts leading up to the good game) ;)

Also for the CL - a Man utd game on RTE v's anybody gets more viewers than Barcelona.

    Money talks, i'm afraid

With regard AFC - 3 points off 4th aint bad considering how we started.

Its always been the case. There are far more Man U and Liverpool fans in Ireland so they show they're games first. It bugs me too

He was around before Jeffers. :) Difference is that he proved himself for nearly a decade at **** teams taking every chance he got. Imagine how many chances he would've got for Arsenal with the we've been trying to play for the last 6-7 years.

Also, how can I get tickets to Liverpool v Arsenal? Wanna go with a Liverpool supporting mate so one of us will be in amongst enemy territory anyway, dunno which of us it'll be, depends which is cheapest :P
