I don't think it's a case of one better than the other but more of a case of not playing 2 CB's who are very similar (Kos & Verm).
I think Per & Verm is the better choice for having the best of both types.
Per in his first season will make a few howlers as did Koscielny

Per has been a steady presence but Kos has been pretty exceptional lately. I don't think it'll really be an issue though with Sagna being out, Kos will move to right back.

Per has a commanding presence about him but he still seems a bit flaky at times. He has a lot of experience but he we know he isnt the best technically. for the moment i think he'll stick with verm and per, maybe kos could be moved to right back if needed, although jenkinson has done quite well recently.

important game this weekend. even though we're on a good run, it's by no means a formaility. i still don't think arsenal are shoe ins to win any game as of yet. rvp is in the form of his life but we are WAY too reliant on him, hopefully another quality striker will be brought in. i really wish we'd held on to eduardo. let's not forget wba beat us at home last season. that being said i think our good form will continue and ill go with a 3-1 win.

I think it's more about balance. Verm and Per are quite similar. Kos will attack the ball a bit more.

Also Per's been OK but he was at fault for Terry's goal and could have done a lot better for Lampard's.

Here's Kos for the Chelsea game

Lads just a quick ff question if you dont mind. Will arteta play this weekend and would ye drop kos for vermalen?

Of course Arteta will play, aside from injury, i don't think Wenger could ever drop him.
He does a quiet but VERY important job IMO.
    Worth every penny for me.

Verm & Per aren't similar, Verm attacks the ball as much as if not more than Kos, so that could cause problems if both are willing to attack the ball (gaping holes)

No offence intended to Per but he has the agility of a beached whale
you can throw a half-arsed dummy and he falls over.

    What rvp11 said for arteta.
As for verm, he is arsenals first choice cb when fully fit, kos and per would have to be some sort of impenetrable super defense for one of them not to lose their place to him (i was thinking to myself a while ago that if the two of them are good will verm get back in that easy, clearly that was stupid Thinking) but which one is up to Wenger. Personally i want to see verm and kos give it a go but yes i would drop kos for verm if it meant verm was in the team, even if alongside per.

I think that needs reversing. Per is improving but Kos is the better defender.

Agree and Per rarely gives the ball away. He is a very good passer.

I think Per has ball magnets in his feet (that sounds so wrong). Rather than tackling he seems to just be in the right place at the right time (most of the time), he stands there and the ball just magically appears at his feet.

I liked Andy Linighan. Stuck behind Adams, Bouls and Keown... poor dude.

Listening to an Arsenal podcast the other week and the lads on it were saying Andy is a plumber nowadays. Aparantely the slogan on his van says "Andy Linighan.......average footballer, world class plumber"

    :D

I don't think he'll buy. He bought park as gervinhos replacement in January for African cup, wilshere will be nearly back at that stage, and if they are all fit we'll have 3 CBs. There's no way i can see him justifying a big name buy in January.

Vermaelen and Koscielny are our best pairing imo. Mertesacker will be really benificial against hoof ball merchants but for bigger games, and especially in Europe, Verm and Kosc should be first choice imo.

Apart from the uber gay music; the vid is top notch, Kos is very much an AW centre half if there is one - quick, composed on the ball and attacking in a defensive sense.

How is that 'uber gay' music?

Listen to the lyrics in it - its not exactly Kasabian!

What's the harm in that? I'm delighted they're doing so well even if I'm not too fond of Ashley & Pardew.

At this point they have to be considered our rivals for 4th along with Tottenham. This is a massive game for them because they have City, United and Chelsea coming up.

Does anyone expect Newcastle to last the distance? They'll give it a go but fall away after Christmas and be looking for a Europa League spot at best by the end of the season. I'll be shocked if they keep up their current form for the entire season.
