We should have a boards table quiz championship!

Yes it was. He won it in 2005.
Ah yes, it is the same guy after all. Beaten Kevin Ashman a few times in recent quizzes - not too shabby

He is Pat Gibson, another winner of the top prize in the UK version of "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?"

Didn't know that! Yeah he knows his stuff, weak on sport though like most of them :D

I bet he used to get beaten up at school for smugness.

Kevin seems a bit dull on Eggheads, but I have heard good stuff from others while he was off TV , decent unassuming bloke.

    WHAT ARE THE 39 STEPS?

The 39 steps refers to the number of stairs in the clock tower of Big Ben from the Lauderdale Door to the clock itself

I was at a quiz night last weekend for the local GAA and one question that came up was what is the capital of Australia, the other 3 lads on my team all got it wrong as did the other tables, I was the only person in the place that knew the answer but our captain didn't trust me

I have beaten the eggheads on numerous occasions. They just don't know it.

The intelligence shown on this forum amazes me sometimes.

They all said Sydney I suppose.

I guess technically the correct question would be "What is the federal capital city of Australia?" Sydney is an Australian capital city, albeit an Australian state capital city, as are Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, etc.

yeah, i hate it too. its like they give you multiple choice for the easy questions, and then give an impossible question when the multiple answers are removed, hate it.

I'm another fan of Kevin from Eggheads. Apart from the fact that he's way better than the rest, he also just gets on with it, without showing off extra facts about the question that aren't needed. CJ is the worst for over-embellishing. I remember once when CJ answered a question correctly, he went on to explain his answer. His reasons for picking the correct answer were completely wrong, the charlatan!!

I like Pointless too. Alexander Armstrong is obviously fairly knowledgeable himself, but the humour in the show is what I like about it. Richard Osman is quite witty (and his brother is the bassist in Suede!).

Does anyone here watch Only Connect on BBC Four? That can be fairly tough sometimes, and it also has an intelligent presenter, the lovely Victoria Coren. I hate when a quiz show presenter is obviously lacking in knowledge. Anne Robinson on The Weakest Link springs to mind...

I like Jeremy Paxman's sneering when somebody gets a question very wrong. "Domenico di Pace Beccafumi? He didn't start painting until 10 years after that!!!" :D

    I'm a big quiz fan.

My mates and I founded the Quiz Soc in NUI Galway. We used to go to table quizzes in college for spending money.

We were in the semi finals of the Ray D'Arcy big quiz two years ago.

The rest of my team are currently in Bruges at the European Quizzing Championship http://www.eqc2011.be/site/

I'd be there too if it wasn't for us being too broke to both go. :(

I watch University Challenge from time to time, the questions can be quite difficult though.

Anyone remember Knightmare on Channel 4, still find that a bit creepy. Crystal Maze was class though, Richard O' Brien with his skinny jeans and harmonica was so great, loved the desperate literally money grabbing final scene.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 14,762 ✭✭✭✭stupidusername

Oh yeah, forgot about Crystal Maze,i was always so tensed up for the final thing.

Knightmare was ITV. Contrary to popular belief a few teams actually won the game. Tho most failed miserably.
