Eating more?? Do u mean using all ur points?? I'm really struggling this week!(congrats on the 3 pounds jealous much)

Yes and no. There were always 2 or 3 days of the week that I didn't make 29 points so last week I made sure I hit 29 every day at least. I've been at WW 8 weeks and up to now only lost 5 lb.

    Hi guys

I tried getting on the WW Irish website but it seems to be down.
I'm looking to join WW, I'd like to lose a stone that I gained after a recent breakup!

I'm just wondering how it works. When you go to the first meeting what happens? How much is it? Do they or WW decide how much weight needs to be lost?

    Thanks a mill!!

When you got to your first meeting you will pay €20 (€10 joining fee and €10 meeting fee). You will be weighed and the leader will tell you your starting weight. If you haven't much to lose she might also tell you your goal weight then aswell. The WW scale will set your goal weight for you which would be a BMI of 24 for your height and age.

Once everyone is weighed, you will have the motivational meeting. After the meeting, the leader will ask you to stay back for 5 or 10 minutes so she can explain the PROPOINTS plan to you and you will receive starter packs. I would highly recommend buying the WW propoints calculator at the meeting (a bit over €10) as the paper wheel to calculate propoints you get with your starter pack is confusing, useless and wastes a lot of time.

You will get another book in your second and third week at WW for your folder and when you reach your 5% and 10% weight loss goals you will get another book and a sticker. When you have lost 7lb, you also get a silver seven sticker (to stick somewhere motivational) and when you lose a stone you get to choose a pretty coloured stone.

Meetings are €10 every week but you can prepay (that means don't skip a week or you are really wasting your money) and pay €50 for 6 weeks or €100 for 12 weeks (they are both the same really, I get the 6 weeks one). If you miss a week you have to pay €15 at your next meeting. If you miss a week while you are on prepay, you will lose 2 weeks (€20) of your prepay or you can pay the €15 and not use your prepay weeks that week, but make sure you tell the cash girl before you give her your card (I made that mistake last week).

Think I have covered everything there, sorry for the long post.

Welcome to the thread and good luck on your weightloss journey :)

Thanks for the advice guys! Everyone on this thread is so friendly :) I've been just calorie counting and trying to cut down on carbs but I think I need more help. I'm always way too strict then I end up having a bad day where I eat loads of crap! Think the meetings are the way to go for me :) I'm living in Kildare btw!

You said you live in kildare, are u in the maynooth area?? I go to the meeting in the boys school in Maynooth and the leader is FANTASTIC! I have went to different weight watchers once here n there (ie if I cant make that class and im in town etc), probably seen around 5 other leaders and noone compares to her. She really goes above and beyond with her planning, visuals, activities etc as well as she is so understanding and doesnt make you feel like an idiot for having a bad week. Perhaps its just a matter of opinion, but I just thought id let you know :)

3 lbs away from goal, 1.5 away from 3 stone! wooooo nice xmas gift to meee

Down 2lb yesterday, happy out!! Mum pointed out that it was probably a major dip in my blood sugar levels and made me hav a yogurt asap!!
Im usualy very good @havin a gud breakfast and lnuch and not lettin myself get to hungry (i get terrible migranes if im starvingly hungry) but yesterday things were just out of my control!! So im posting my episode just to highlight how eating properly and regularly is sooo important in our weight loss journey!! Being extra good today, had a big protein fillin brekkie of a poached egg +1white(3pp) 2 aldi bacon medallions (1pp) and some dry fried mushrooms and peppers!! Very filling and satisfying!! Lunch is goin to be a chicken salad wrap me thinks and some 0pp soup when i get home@half 3, dinner is as yet unplanned!!!

Im also in Kildare and struggled for ages to find a decent leader, I go to the Clane class on a Monday night and find the leader there fantastic, like that there is no comments / faces!! if I don't loose or put a pound on after a bad week and her talks are great crack, we always have a laugh at them. Ive made a few friends from the members even its the first time and Ive been going to WW for years but the people just seem really open and friendly - there is such a good atmosphere there. I find Monday night keeps me on track over the weekend and I have been doing well albeit slow with PP so far.
Hope you find a meeting that suits you

Just wondering, can anyone point the little bottles of shandy from aldi? They come in a big pack for 3 euro they're in the alcohol section but their only 0.5%..they're little small bottles too like the small green glass bottles of beer you can get :)

Turns out my digital scales are broken and it completely threw me off this week  I walked into my WI tonight thinking I'd be down 2lbs and was finally going to get that 2nd stone but turns out I'm up 0.5lb. If I'm being honest then 0.5lb is not bad given the halloween weekend I had. My digital scales are about 3lbs off which has never happened before.

On the upside I did get a feel what it was like to be that low so it has given me the motivation to work hard and get it down to that. I've my whole week planned out so here's to next week :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 288 ✭✭MaggieMay2

Having to dig deep this week. Two weeks in a row I've been up a half. So in three weeks I've gone up one. I had two big weekends but was careful and was WW perfect every other day. 21 weeks and 10 pounds down. I know thats in the right direction so thats all good but it can be a little deflating is all :( So it seems I have lost my mojo a little and have a little feeling of why bother but I'm still tracking and following the plan. Albeit with a lot less gusto. Hopefully I can push through it and find my mojo again break through the wall. Anyone else ever hit the wall??

Anyways on the upside it's Friday :) Looking forward to a good weekend and maybe a bit of exercise will mentally recharge me :) Hope everyone is doing well!!!

Hi guys, I have been a long time lurker on here and love all the encouraging posts, its excellent motivation.

I joined WW 3 years ago and lost 28lbs on the programme...I didnt wait long enough to get my gold members card (couldnt afford the weekly class at the time, I was in college)

Anyhow in the 3 years I have always hovered up and down by 5-7lbs roughly. Off to oz in the new year so looking to shift about 10lbs if possible. I tried the PP at the beginning of the year and it didnt suit me at all, the most i lost over the month was 1.5lbs so every week, i try to do the old points plan....unfort the weekend binge leaves me back to square one every monday!

I know this will be common question, but I find the week before my period I crave EVERYTHING. I have been so bold so far this morning and needed to post somewhere because I feel so bad....white homemade bread, choco cake massive chunk....quiche and its not even 12pm! Can someone else please reassure me, or am I just dillusioned that this is PMS related? Does anyone else get crazy cravings like this that they NEEED to give into despite trying to stay within their points/propoints?

Also, it would be great if anyone could point me in the direction of a current 'old points' thread if there is one? did a search and can only locate older ones from last year.

Thanks a mill and weeeelll done to everyones losses so far :)

First off, welcome to the thread. There was an old points thread but it has been locked. Most people are using propoints now. However, if you do a search you should find it. It is very long over 800 pages but if you have the time has a wealth of knowledge.

Are you saying with propoints you were losing 1.5lb per week or 1.5lb per month? If it is the former, that is brilliant to be losing that per week. You should aim for 1-2lb, anything more is unhealthy and unsustainable. If you trust in the plan and give it your all, it should work, perhaps give it a little more time.

I do feel like I want to eat more when I am due or have my period. More junk usually. I too do not know if it is PMS related or me just feeling lazy and sluggish and wanting a pick-me-up. The only thing I would suggest is try snacking on really sweet fruit like strawberries or raspberries and maybe that will help the craving. Make your meals bigger aswell so you are full and less likely to snack.

    Thanks Monife.

I joined just after xmas and I was had 5 weigh in's. I lost 1.5lbs for the total duration on the plan, although I do know it takes your body awhile to adjust, but I felt after 5 weeks I should see more results. The first 2 weeks I STS, but this was because I hadnt used all my weeklies at this stage.

May be I need to give my body a shock, I have probably become immune to the points system at this stage and may be thats why I am struggling to lose the last few pounds. I think I may give the PP's a shot again from this wknd until xmas and see what the results will be.

I have such a bad sweet tooth, I know its all in the mind though. I think 7lbs could be achievable between now and xmas with good dedication....need to reign in the weekend damage for sure.

This weekend I am going to study this thread for serious receipe ideas!

Quick question - I know you should use all your daily PPs and your weeklies - but can you save your exercise points and still lose weight or is using all ur PPs (allowance + weeklies + exercise) better for results? I used to find it difficult using all my dailies and weeklies, thats why my leader suggested that I wasnt losing a whole lot. Since the summer though, I try to walk/jog 4-5 miles 4 times a week and do 2 hr long circuits, so for all this exercise and if I save the points, i dont want it to be counter effective if you get me!

Also do people rely more on the number on the scales or inch loss? sometimes I get frustrated by not losing and then it sends me into a self pity party!!

    Thanks :)

    Hi All,

I'm a newbie to WW, I joined two weeks ago. First weigh in went well, I lost four and half pounds but this week I'm a bit unmotivated! :( I'm finding it hardest at dinner time trying to point and find good recipes.

Last night I used a recipe from the Phildelphia website as I thought it was handy that they give all the nutrional information. I'm just wondering does anyone know how accurate this would be or anyone any experience with using the recipes before?

Thanks guys and think its great forum, I've been reading to keep the motivation up!

If you are exercising like that every week, you should aim to eat ALL of your dailies and most of your weeklies. You should eat all of your dailies regardless. The weeklies are optional but if you exercising strenuously and consistently, I would recommend eating your weeklies. Try eating all one week, and if you STS/gain/or get a small loss, try then using 2/3 of your weeklies. It's trial and error really. You don't have to eat your activity points if you dont want to and if you are eating your weeklies, I wouldnt recommend eating your activity points. You can bulk up your meals with pointed veg like peas and sweetcorn. You can introduce healthy fats like a handful of unsalted nuts for a snack or avocado with your lunch. If these don't appeal, just google healthy fats for an idea.

If in doubt, point it yourself. The nutritional information is on the back of Philadelphia tubs. Also, anything else that is in the recipe, refer to your pocket guide. I have made a few recipes from that website and I just point them myself.

    Heh Guys

Well I had my weigh in yesterday and was down 5.5lbs!! I was so suprised as have never lost that much in a week, not even in my first week.
I posted last week saying I put up 2lbs at last weeks weigh in and I was wearing a big pair of boots that I don't usually wear to weigh in so I ditched the boots and went with my flat pumps, which could have been part of the 5.5lbs weight loss.

Well the reason I'm posting is I'm a bit worried that the weight is coming off too quick. I have now lost 21lbs since 1st Sept. I have gone up a pound here and there but lost it the following week but I'm concerned that the rate I'm getting it off isn't sustainable. When I have the bad weeks, I am extra good the following week including drinking water, tracking and exercise and then obviously the bad weeks I don't do any of that!

Wierd question I know but Is there anything I could do to slow it down?

Hey guys, hope everyone's well, just been catching up with all the pages I missed since I posted last - was down 1.5 last night, so FINALLY broke free of those 2 pounds that I've been fluting around with since August - now officially 29lbs gone :)

Found a new recipe while I was looking through all my leaflets/magazines/cookbooks to plan the dinners for this week:

Tuna Burgers (makes 4, 12pp per recipe, 4pp per burger)

    50g breadcrumbs (2 slices of low-pp bread) - 3pp
    2 x 130g can of tuna in brine, drained - 6pp
    2 spring onions, finely chopped - 0pp
15g reduced fat cheddar cheese, grated - 1pp
    1 egg, beaten - 2pp
    Low-cal spray - 6 or 7 sprays - 0pp

    1. Mix together the breadcrumbs, tuna, spring onions & cheddar. Season to taste & mix well.
    2. Gradually add the beaten egg, until mixture is sticky enough to shape into 4 burgers.
    3. Heat some low-cal spray in a pan, then cook the burgers for 5 minutes on each side, don't turn too often because they'll fall apart. I think you could probably grill them if you wanted?
    4. Says to serve with a burger bun, but we're not going to do that :) Serve with a salad!!

Going to try these for dinner, sure if they're rotten, they're rotten!!

i think it all depends on how much you need to loose, i think the more you have to loose the faster you will loose it in the beginning.
i have to loose roughly 7 stone in total and i started WW on 10th August and have lost 32lbs so far - and i dont find that to fast but i think once i have lost another stone or so it will start to slow down.

once you are following the plan properly, i dont see any reason why you wouldnt be able to sustain the weight loss. well thats what im hoping for myself anyway

Well done to you! Thats brillant! I have 2 stone to lose so I would count it as substantial enough to lose as I have never been over 9.5 stone in my life, let alone being 11.5stone when I started! A lot of it does depend on my water intake and my exercise levels. Great day for walking today so have already got out for my 7km!

you are doing very well so, not long to go for you to reach your goal weigh :)

how much water do you drink? i manage 2 liters a day in work but never really manage much over the weekend.

thats great that you got a 7k walk in already!! going to head out for my walk around 6ish.

    Hi :)

Just wondering, do you use all of your weeklies? If you do, do you still lose weight? I've used 7/49 so far over 5 days by going over my daily points a bit. I was planning to use some extra tomorrow but I'm worried if I do that then I won't loose any weight and I really want to shift a good bit by xmas!!

It is different for everyone. It really is trial and error. Some said they never used them and they were getting small losses or STS and then one weekend they used them all and had a big loss (perhaps undereating?). I don't go a weekend without using at least 30 of them (usually I use most of them). Although I have been fairly off the wagon (back on now I hope) the last few months, back when I did the plan properly and ate the above weeklies, I was losing consistently, 1lb a week, sometimes 2lb the odd time if I was very good.

You really dont know until you try it yourself.

    From ww.co.uk site . . .

Don't say goodbye to your favourite recipes when you're losing weight; learn how to give them a makeover.

We've all got our favourite or signature recipes. The stew you can whip up with your eyes closed, the cheesecake everyone raves about or the trusty old spag bol you can always rely on.

Now if you've been avoiding cooking a beloved meal because you're losing weight, those days are over. Learning how to convert a recipe to a lower ProPoints value dish, can make your weight loss efforts so much simpler. Making small changes to your recipes and the way you cook is very simple if you know where to look for helpful hints and tips.

Some substitutions to save you ProPoints values
•Swap a tablespoon of double cream for 0% fat Greek yogurt to save 1 ProPoints value
•Swap 40g of low fat cheddar for normal cheddar to save you 2 ProPoints values
•A pint of skimmed milk vs. a pint of full fat milk saves you 5 ProPoints values
•Opting for a medium chicken breast over a medium rump steak can save you up to 6 ProPoints values
•Choose a tablespoon of low fat mayonnaise over full fat mayonnaise to save you 2 ProPoints values

    In your kitchen
It's always simpler to make the changes you want to favourite recipes if you have the right tools. Here are some great basics for the kitchen:

Spray oil – a low fat way to fry foods.
Steamer – steam fish or vegetables in a special steamer pan or wrap your fish or other foods in kitchen foil with a splash of water and steam in a hot oven.
Roasting dish – bake fish, meat or vegetables in an open roasting dish for a succulent, tasty finish which requires very little fat.
ProPoints Kitchen Scales – great for working out the ProPoints values of individual ingredients.
