In the GTA wiki, it says Tommy was born in 1951. I doubt we're going to have a protagonist who is 60+ (assuming it's set in the modern day).

It also says its just Southern California. I dont know why they would have the image of the Freeway with the signpost saying "North" if you cant actually go that far north to San Fierro/Las Venturas

    From the above link:

    Quote Rockstar...

"We are very proud to officially announce that Grand Theft Auto V is in full development.

Developed by series creator Rockstar North, Grand Theft Auto V heads to the city of Los Santos and surrounding hills, countryside and beaches in the largest and most ambitious game Rockstar has yet created.

A bold new direction in open-world freedom, storytelling, mission-based gameplay and online multiplayer, Grand Theft Auto V focuses on the pursuit of the almighty dollar in a re-imagined, present day Southern California."

That's disappointing but at the same time I don't know how they'd achieve something San Andreas sized with GTA:IV detail. They could probably do it on PC seeing as there are already games of that size on the market but the current consoles are a big bottleneck to game development at this stage.

If their announcement is true I am pissed tbh. I loved the idea of more than one city; made GTASA for me :(

Rockstar and take two are marketing kings so I would expect them to have plenty of aces up thier sleeves before now and release, I wouldn't rule out the 3 cities but I think it will be just the 1, it would take so much work for all 3.

But with the option of installing, who's to say it won't be three cities. I'd say the ps3 could do it straight off the disk. Or like someone mentioned earlier, it could be dlc unlocked, or even time unlocked as in the 3 cities come with the disk, but at certain later dates the other cities become unlocked for everyone, that would be sweet.
I'm already gagging for this game, so by the time this game actually comes out the hype will be astronomical, so i really hope rockstar don't disappoint or they will be in trouble, fan wise.

their using the same engine as gta4, they have detailed maps of LA from both LA noire and midnight club la, and its been nearly 4 years since gta4  rockstar created the entire engine/mechanics/physics/car models/animations/voice acting and city of LC in 3-4 years, it seems like a damn waste of time to me if their just doing one city,

my opinion is that there will be more than one city, its just rockstar stirring up controversy for the sake of publicity, they knew people would read into that article and go bat ****e crazy, im onto ye rockstar ;)

In a way it's disappointing if it's only Los Santos, as I would have loved to have seen a GTA:IV version of Las Venturas, but Los Santos alone will probably be bigger than Liberty City from the last game, then add in the countryside, plus how varied you could make the city, with Inglewood type areas and a major Vinewood section.

I don't think not having the three cities is a big deal, it's what they do with them that counts

Wouldn't surprise me if San Fierro or Las Venturas was DLC soon after the game came out.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,688 ✭✭✭Nailz

If that is the case then one would imagine they would've called it Grand Theft Auto: Los Santos. I call R* are playing a R* on this one, and somewhat trolling with us, and I think there's a decent chance of that.

In my opinion doing it that way is a bit daft, some people may still have relatively small HDD's in their consoles, for example the launch 360's (not that any of the are still working), and the 40, 60 & 80 GB PS3's. Not a problem for me and my PS3 as I replaced the HDD with a 640GB HDD when I got it, but not everybody will have similar hardware.

Put everything on the Bluray and leave only the small changes to DLC's.

I think there'll be at least a few extra towns you can go to. It won't be all rural places. I also hope the countryside will be very big. It should not use up too much extra DVD space. Also, if there are planes to fly you'll need a decent map size or you'll be flying around in circles.

Yeah its about time the next generation of consoles came out. Otherwise I'm going to play PC games.

To justify having Jets in the game there must be more than one airport. And both those airports must be spread out.

I think it would be cool if there was Los Angeles, San Diego and parts of Mexico. It would make a fantastic game. Im thinking breaking bad type stuff.

That's what i thought when i read the R* statement, I took "Southern California" to be Los Angeles, Santa Barbara, San Diego, and maybe Tijuana. Thats a huge area!

It would be a clever marketing ploy to just release a trailer like this.. see what everyone says/thinks/wants and get ideas from the public!!

    We want Tommy Vercetti!!

I would have thought that by the time the trailer comes out they would be past that stage and more or less locked into whatever they've done so far.

I'll wait before jumping the gun. There'll be another trailer or two at the very least. Wouldn't surprise me if it'i simply mind games from Rockstar, the swines :D At least I hope that is the case. Maybe it is San Diego and somewhere else south of LA itself that'll be included and not San Fierro nor Las Venturas.

Unless he is a boss you work for, and voiced by Ray Liotta, which it has been confirmed by his Liotta's reps he won't be doing. Then I'm not horribly fussed. The narrator making note of moving for the weather, makes no sense for Vercetti to have that as one of his reasons what with last being seen in Vice City. Also going on the timeline, wouldn't he be in his 60s? The old guy in the trailer looks to be in his 40s. CJ surely has to be referenced in some form at the very least. I'd be disappointed if that weren't to happen.

Rockstar, again with the mind games knew some of us would consider the bum to be Niko, the black guy being chased in the CJ's default clothes as CJ (OG Loc anyone? :D) and the old dude as Vercetti.. maybe even Claude.

i think a voice acted claude would be pretty fing cool tbh, even cooler than vercetti, that guy was such a badass, his bio also says he did some street racing in SA before going to LC

Yes he did you had to race him in GTA:SA with the crazy Catalina one.

I think the main character will be a new guy , sounds like an ex mob boss or something

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,009 ✭✭✭✭wnolan1992

I reckon if it is just LS, SF and LV will be add on's. I'm perfectly happy to play a game with just LS if it's as detailed and more detailed than LC from GTAIV.

Might have to stand corrected here, but the bridge in jet ski pic here is apparently the Vincent Thomas Bridge in San Pedro, CA

    med-DSC_8783-adj.JPG

There is an industrial site in the background of the bridge after all, and looks to be the area in the original SA where you had to drive into the national guard with Sweet(I think) and steal guns by using the forklift.

Reading that quite a lot and I hope it's not true.

I don't think Rockstar are that bad, are they? Their DLC for IV wasn't very conjob-ish in nature, so I reckon they won't try pulling that one on people.

Towards the end of the trailer, at 1:03, the landscape shot it shows, you can see pretty much the entirety of Los Santos and as it's cityscape rolls into the background, there's a fairly busy four lane motorway leaving the city to the left of the screen.

I doubt they'd put a motorway like that to a mountain, so I'm assuming it's to one of the other cities.

The road you see at 1:03 cant be a motorway, there's no jersey barrier to separate the two directions of traffic. More than likely that's the main road snaking around Vinewood.

However the trailer does show two motorways: Interstate 5, 'Los Puerta Fwy' going North (to SF?) and Interstate 2, 'Del Perro Fwy' heading to East Los Santos (to LV?). They could possibly head to the other cities, or just serve the area around Los Santos, hopefully we'll find out soon...!
