Nice collection alright! You fairly amassed a lot of those games quickly.

Not gaming, but I got my sweet ass speakers hooked up. Also went into town today and carried home a 15kg entertainment unit to start putting my separates in stacked. Almost broke my spine.

Have another receiver arriving during the week with fancy red LEDs. Cant wait :)

Now that's a nice retro glow.

I feel warm looking at it :)

Looks a lot nicer than the cold blue glow from my av separates. You need valves next!

Yeah I really like Pioneer stuff, but all their receivers from the period I like have blue LEDs. Which I find cold. I want to keep this thing warm.

So I'm sticking with those glowing lamps and red LEDs. Have a Sansui R 50 arriving from the UK which has bouncing red LED power meters. Should look the business!

Next time the housemates go out for the evening I'm going to hook her up to Child of Eden. You wouldn't believe the bass. All the furniture in the room shakes. No excuse if I don't get high scores ;)

    valves?I know valves.
When I was a teenager the soundsystem I had was a PYE radio/record player combo from around the 50s or early 60s mark. I picked it up at a community jumble sale thing for about a fiver. The kind that look like a varnished wooden sideboard. It predated FM radio and only had AM and MW, was mono , and took around 3 mins to start up .But Christ! the sound out if it was unreal .Crystal clear.Really really heavy bass.Of course my parents chucked it when I moved out.
God only knows what it would have been worth now.

Proper setups always have cool looking valves to compliment your marble turntable and gold cartridge!

Are they the ribbon type speakers o1s? They don't seem deep enough for cones. Apparently the ribbon stuff is pretty classy

I got something new in the post.....a candy cab! :D

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,328 ✭✭✭Pyongyang

Virtual Boy just arrived. Seriously annoyed though. The guy advertised it fully boxed and indeed it is boxed, but he's sent two crappy Royal Mail boxes and folded the box up to fit inside it with everything else loose!

Rather vexed at that. Worth sending it back? Doesn't look anything like the condition on the photos.

Congrats on the cab dude, looks lovely! :D

Re: the VB box - did he crease it in places it shouldn't be just to fit it inside a smaller box? That sounds rubbish. Throw up some before and after pics if you can.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,328 ✭✭✭Pyongyang

Yeah it's crap. The ad said it's fully boxed with inner packaging. There is no inner packaging, it's all loose and he folded the box up to fit inside a smaller box!

Paid a premium based on it being mint. Methinks it's going back or I'll ask for a partial refund assuming it powers on. I'll get some pics.

Aye, can't wait for the cab!

EDIT: Filed a PayPal claim now. We'll see what happens... proof will be testing it tonight. If it works as described, I can live without the box providing he gives me a huge partial refund.

They're pretty deep speakers. I think the aluminium frame on the front right of that entertainment centre thing is creating the illusion that they're thinner than they are!

Check for dodgy LCD screens. If they are dodgy then I'd be complaining a lot more to him.

He's now telling me to send in one box would have been £50. Don't think so! It's £18 to ship to Eire from UK via DHL.

Seems like he's alright with a return and full refund though. I'll test it tonight and see. Cheers for the tip Retr0gamer. :)

Ffs, what a joke. When you have something as 'box included' then the assembled box is part of the auction. Would you disassemble an electronic item so it fits in a smaller box? No, you send it assembled. Same with the VB box in this case.

This kind of stuff really pisses me off. I had something similar happen a few years back when an idiot was sending me a boxed Megadrive Master system converter II. It was mint.

He used the console box as the actual postage box - with a bit of brown paper around it. As you can imagine, it got mangled in transport. Perfect example of a rare enough item ruined.

Test it and either demand a partial refund or send the whole thing back to teach the idiot a lesson.

Yep, Retr0gamer gave me similar sage advice. To his credit the seller has offered to knock a good few quid off so if it all works I might just keep it and try and source a mint box and a new eyeshade somewhere another day.

It's so disappointing though to see people destroy the boxes like that. :(

Yeah you wouldn't sell an opened and used 7800 as brand new on ebay either. :D

    Here's how it was advertised:

    Here's how it showed up:

No bubble wrap, no foam chips and yes that is the box folded up inside it.

Yep. I'll wager all that tumbling around in the box has fecked the alignments up at the very least. Proof of the pudding will be when I power it on tonight.

If it's fecked he's getting it straight back. :)

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 10,942 Mod ✭✭✭✭Andrew76

Man that's disgraceful! Especially considering how good a condition the box looked beforehand. I'd defo be looking for a good lump of money back, hopefully the VB is working ok. Jesus.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,912 ✭✭✭Steve X2

    That's feckin awful.

He deserves a smack in the face for the way he's packed that up and destroyed the box.

Glad you guys agree. So very disappointed with it. The seller has offered to knock a few quid off though so I guess if it works and I'm happy to live without the box it'll be OK. If the console works though...

Test it out and see. Is the box any way salvageable?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,328 ✭✭✭Pyongyang

The box is in bits. The ad made out it had all the inner parts to the box too and bags. None of these were present. You can see in the pics how badly folded up it is. When you pay a premium for an item described as fully boxed, you'd expect better than that... :(
