LY have lost a few members alright, their numbers are low apparently. Welcome to come join us over on the super hardcore extreme mad bonkers left though. We have tea parties and sometimes people use bad words. It's all good fun.

Hey guys sorry to spoil the party, but please stick on topic.

This probably is off topic but as it relates to the SU and money I decided to post it here. This is from an email we received from the SU yesterday.
    A Chara,

As of this week Maynooth Students’ Union is offering to any student who is hungry, but can’t afford food, a meal voucher.

We have reached with Chill and with Compass Catering (the cafeteria) a deal whereby any student can come to the Students Union offices on North Campus and, in complete confidentiality, receive a voucher for one standard meal + drink in either establishment.

You do not need to prove you need a voucher to receive one. Just drop into the Students' Union offices and ask for Rob, Fiach, Naoise or Broni.

There is no special process in either establishment to use the voucher - just grab the food you want and hand the voucher over at the till.

We will not see you go hungry.

    Our best,

    Maynooth Students’ Union

I have heard also that you can go to the SU and get a tenner in case of an emergency. I was just wondering is the cost of this type of scheme covered by the €88 we have to pay, i.e. is our money going towards this emergency fund.

Not sure how this is funded, but I think it's a really good idea! Well done to all in the SU for organising it.

Since LY was attacked, I feel it's only fair that I respond to the points brought up, (my own oppinions)
-We really haven't lost many active members, sign-ups are down, but that's for every party in every college
-We did object to going into government, and I feel we were right. However, unlike the SWP, most of whom can't get near the dail, and would rather protest outside it, we can get in there and lobby ministers, which actually will cause change.
-You need to remember that we are the junior party in government, so we can't be held entirely responsible for what happens, we're doing our best, and if it was FG supported by independents, we would be in a far worse state than we are now.

What I mean by my post is could people please contribute
all discussion to the issue at hand and not start talking about
    who(person) belongs to who(political group).
I really don't want to close this topic if it starts getting bitchy.

Ok, guys I've been informed by the Returning Officer that we can accept electronic signatures. I will be setting up an online petition shortly. Can anyone who signed the physical petition just make sure that they don't duplicate online as the list of signatures will be checked and we don't want to think we've made the total when in fact we've fallen short. Thanks!

Online Petition available now! Please share the link!

That petition makes the name and student number of all signatories public, you should change that.

When a person signs it it gives them the option as to what they do and do not want public. The default it to have everything private, some people may have just decided against that.

You mustn't have read the form properly, only the email address is capable of being made private. From the site itself:
"Please note: All information you provide on this petition signing form will be public on the petition signatures page, except your email address, for which privacy is set here:"

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,081 ✭✭✭LeixlipRed

I dunno, I assume the petition will have to be publicly available. What do people think? I just assumed no one would sign it if they couldn't see others had signed it. But I can change it if people are concerned? You can also contact me to sign the physcial petition as well if you feel that's more confidential.

Well when I went to sign it online (which I didn't cause I already signed in person) I saw that at least for me, the default setting was to have everything private, except the email address which would be available to the creator of the petition.

I dont even know who my class rep is and I think one has already been chosen. At this stage I doubt I'll ever know and frankly they dont seem to do much.

@Leixlipred I'm open to correction here but I would have always thought that listing student numbers and names online should be avoided.

@Michellenman There is no "at least for me", unless you think you're special enough that the site transported you to your own personal sign up page with different settings to everyone else you're wrong here. Please check the site again to make sure to be doubly certain you don't have internet 2.0. In short, you can only control over your email address privacy.

It's only names and student numbers like, not bank account details.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 338 ✭✭itzme

Thanks for the clarification on what the list is and isn't, I was really confused there for a minute.

As a courtesy to those signing it, it should be at least stated that their name and number will be publically shown for the duration of the petition.
The question on whether they should be shown at all is a different one, are they that confidential and critical to be hidden at all costs... no. Does anyone ever publish them online... no. I'm pretty certain that its university policy not to put them up together.
What would happen if you were to post a list of student names and numbers on boards? My guess (and this is a guess) is that it would be taken down, so whats the difference here. Like I said I'm open to correction as this is my opinion but if it can be avoided I'd love to know a reason why you would put them up together.

That meal voucher is one of the best ideas i've heard about. Sorry to see it lost in the middle of this thread though.

P.S if you want a real reason why not to post them, how about listing them online allows me to view them, save them and over time get a list of 800 that I can use to "sign up" for any future issue/petition I want?

    That's a good point. I'll change it :)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,081 ✭✭✭LeixlipRed

It appears you can't edit that aspect of the petition. Hmmm, I suppose we'll just have to trust that no one would ever be that devious to re-use the signatures. If anyone would like to be removed from the petition just let me know and I do have the power to delete individual signatures.

Also, haven't done the count properly yet but we're over 800 by my rough arithmetic ;)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,810 ✭✭✭Seren_

    Seriously?? That's brilliant!

I see towely signed the petition. He's a good guy.

I'm now off to steal this list of names and create a petition against publishing lists of student numbers with names on the internet.

Good work Leixlip, now shut down this ridiculous "Celtic-Tiger" training event.

    :)

According to the Returning Officer we need 856 signatures exactly. So we'll need to do a little more work tomorrow to get over the line. 921 is our target ;)
