Those are some excellent bargains there mate - no harm in having Wario in the collection - the box art is pretty cool and its a game that is fun to play for a while - its just that its the weakest in the series in general opinion. Still though, for a fiver you can't go wrong and it will easily be worth more than that in the coming years.

I actively collect for DS, and have done for quite some time now. Its the only current gen system that I collect for. Every other machine I buy games to play - with DS I tend to buy games to play there and then, but also to play in the future, or because I believe they are going to be hard to find in the long term. As such, I have a big backlog on the system right now, but it is nice to have a big stock of games to play whenever you need to get stuck into something.

Whilst the DS isn't my favourite handheld ever, and its line-up in my view is not as good as the Game Boy Advance, it is a format that is home to some great games. I'm not a huge fan of the touch screen in general, and the machine has few arcade-style games, but there are some truly remarkable RPGs and puzzlers on the format, plus its a system that is good to collect for as games can be bought easily enough today in shops and online in very good condition for low prices. It does have some rare games such as Suikoden Tierkreis, Fire Emblem and Maetro: Jump in Music too to keep you interested as you browse in the likes of GAME and HMV.

Thanks for that. Yeah I think the DS back cat could became just like the SNES back cat and be very expensive in the years to come.
I used to have an R4 card for my old DSlite, it just wasnt the same having 30 odd games with no cart/box art, much rather have the solid copy or if Ninty ever upload the DS games on the eshop that would be great.

Really thinking about getting that Legendary Starfy game, its weird cause its around £15 including post on amazon uk, but like $5 or so on amazon.com. Which do I go for lol. Also looking into Maestro! Jump in Music too.

What other Imports would you recommend me to have a look and think about? Seems these games can get very expensive already  crazy amounts.

Is it just me or do DS games look prettier on the 3DS screens rather than on the DS?

It's coming from France, and the guy was very reluctant to reply to any of my messages, took the guts of a week post the sale date that he finally posted it off, gods only know via what lonely french colonial outpost the game is travelling through.
Must drop him a line and ask when it was posted and what was the tracking number, assuming there was one.

Nice! Is that the special edition one? Lovely game you have there. Certainly one on my wish list. :)

I think it is the standard US release

Quick Q: How long have any of you been waiting on stuff from the US to arrive? Still waiting on my NGPC game. How is it that I can get something from Japan in less than a week but not something from the states?!

I would say 7 to 10 days is average.

Found a copy of Ys: The Ark of Napishtim (aka Ys 6) on the PSP for 6 euro in CeX today. Didn't even know a PSP port existed, so success, I guess! :pac:

I think it's not only the best handheld ever I'm pretty sure it's beaten the SNES for my favourite console ever. Some many fantastic games on it and for an RPG nut like me it's by far the best console for JRPGs ever.

Nice one. Whats your rarest finds so far? I got a complete copy of Suikoden Tierkreis from GAME for €20 last year. It was second hand but in great condition.

If you haven't got Fire Emblem yet then make sure you get it soon as it got an extremely low print run.

Unfortunately I know very little about Jap DS imports, but there are some excellent US games that you should consider such as The Dark Spire, Knights in the Nightmare and Contra 4. There are loads of Atlus role players that made it Stateside but never to Europe.

I collect PAL only, though I do have a couple of US titles, including The Legendary Starfy. I would recommend Starfy as it is a fun little platformer with some gorgeous graphics, but it is a simplistic title to play, so keep that in mind. It isn't a complex game so you may get bored of it after a while, fun and all as it is.

Have you picked up Metal Slug 7 yet on the DS? I got the French import and I love it. Its all in English and plays very well on the DS. Its a great little run 'n gun and is one of the best portable 'Slugs ever in my view.

Be careful of buying DS games that are very cheap matey as there are a tonne of fakes all over the 'net.

I'd echo this sentiment. I keep coming back to it, been playing it for over two years.

Nothing rare so far. I've not been keeping up but other than the horror of looking for Dragon Quest V (and the horror of it getting reprinted in the US a week after buying an italian copy for 40 euro) I've been quite good at keeping up with releases. At the moment though I'm really falling behind and it's so annoying because I know some games I can't afford like okamiden, mass attack and ghost trick amongst others will cost a lot soon :(

Okamiden has been on my want now list for quite a while. It's been on sale a few times but only jap copies on yes asia.

Jesus some of those games you mentioned are really expensive! Might be a thing of one rare DS game a month I think. Budget.

Had a look at Contra 4 on amazon and 'Konami Arcade Classics' keeps coming up. Does it have Contra 1/2/3 or something on it too?

Yeah thats for the advice re fakes. Kinda knew that, seeing some of the prices on ebay, I keep away from ebay and tend to look on Amazon instead, I am sure there is fakes on there too, but better chance of getting the real thing than a fake on there.

Never really played any of the Fire Emblems. Have seen a few copies in CEX for €30 I think, might pick up a copy at the weekend or next weekend, see what all the fuss is about.

My other half was looking at me weird last night talkin about the DS games I want and laughing at me. Dont think he understands it but then again he is more of a FPS person.

Fire emblem, amazing series of games. If you like advance wars you need it since it's by the same team and uses the same engine.

DS games have been my main focus for a couple of years now, have been keeping an eye on low print-run games and the like, I'm at either 101 or 102 games now, annoyingly my copy of Contra 4 is my only unboxed game. Currently on the look-out for Etrian Odyssey 2, have 1 and 3 but worried I'm going to run into difficulty getting 2.

Had to get a mate of mine from New Jersey to pick me up EO2. He managed to get it for 15 dollars for me. Those games will definitelybe rare.

    Few bits arrived today.

Competition Pro Gold USB 25th Anniversary Edition(tacky I know, but I had to have it :D ) and an EasyADF PCMCIA Compact Flash Transfer Kit with a 4GB card.

    dsc5373r.jpg

Also got an original 1MB memory upgrade for the Amiga 600 (not pictured as I installed it already).

I also got a new gaming keyboard and mouse the other day as well as a gameboard (playing a lot of Battlefield Bad Company 2 multiplayer lately as well as the buggy Battlefield 3 beta). They aren't really retro related but you can use the small lcd screens as VMU's for dreamcast emulators or drive access indicator displays for Amiga emulators and probably other emu's I've not tried yet.

    Got these today.
Been after a micro for ages and this one was a steal in the end and its in mint condition no wear at all to the handheld and had all its bits in the box as well.
Some loose games as well, like Mario Kart, Pokemon, Sonic, gave them to brother.

Neo Geo is also in good condition, no material in the box though just the console :(

Saturn same apart from the box being worn a bit.

Got the Wario game for free. All for under 100 including post.

    All in all happy enough.

Also got a Zelda Gameboy Advance SP today as well. 20 quid and dropped into work for me.:)

Next up is Mario Party 3 Pal version and in mint condition. Not a great price but not too bad at forty including post. Only need Paper Mario now for N64.

EDIT- Cup of tea was also included. Got to hand it too DHL, they are steady not a drop dripped.

Its like this weird sensor peripheral for the nes that senses your hand movement for the game.

I saw a complete second hand copy of DQ V up in GAME in the Ilac about 5 or 6 weeks ago for only four or five quid I'm sorry to say. I already own it having picked it up on GameStop last year for nothing having traded in loads of crap DVDs and CDs. The day I saw it in GAME I was aware that it was hard to find but I didn't buy it - I was unwell that day and really didn't care all that much about getting it again. I honestly can't be bothered selling stuff on eBay either, even though it is worth more than a fiver! I'm sure its long sold now so good luck to whoever snagged it.

I would keep an eye out for it in GameStop if you want an English version as they had a good few copies last year, so these may end up getting traded back into GameStop over the next while as people trade their DS stuff for 3DS software.

Talking of GameStop, when I worked there years ago, we had Ninja Cop in stock on the GBA. I never bought a copy :(
Okamiden has been on my want now list for quite a while. It's been on sale a few times but only jap copies on yes asia.

I bought it on its launch weekend from HMV in Dundrum. I knew it was going to end up a rarity. The shop got three copies in and I remember by the end of the weekend they were gone. I have never seen it new at retail since, though GameStop on Henry St. did have a second hand copy a month ago.

There are pirate copies about, so watch out for those online.

Contra 4 just contains Contra 4 as far as I know - its got a brown case with some dodgy art work on the cover.

The price of DS games will rise over the next while online, but the great thing is you can find bargains in shops if you look around regularly. Unfortunately if you want US imports you will have to pay eBay prices.

The DS is an ideal system to collect for right now if your focus is on your local retailers. Sadly a lot of games are hard to get new, but decent pre-owned copies of all the classics can be found with some persistence. Check clearance baskets as well in places you perhaps don't associate with video games.... I check Curry's, PC World and Harvey Norman regularly for games and normally walk out with a bargain or two.... There, that's my biggest game collecting tip right there - just keep it to yourself mate ;)

    One last thing....

If you have never tried the Disgaea series on the PS2 or PSP then you should also think about getting the DS version if you are into RPGs. I think Disgaea is the best game on the PS2 and its in my personal top 10 video games of all time. I spent over 350 hours on it on PS2 so the DS port is well worth tracking down!

Over a hundred DS games? Good going! I've 57 myself, all complete.

Early last year when I decided to actively source low-print and desirable DS games I ended up buying too many games and hadn't time to actually play the things, so I put the buying on hold for a while. DS games tend to be very long so I still haven't completely worked my way through the backlog, but I am buying them again now as there are some nice bargains around lately.....

I'm slowly beginning to think that the Micro is the best way to play GBA games. The screen may be small and the shoulder buttons not the best, but its very comfortable to hold, geninely portable and lets be honest, it looks frigging lovely. Its far more comfortable to hold than the SP and the screen is magnificent. The ideal GBA would be a back-lit rechargable GBA 1 but the Micro comes very close to this ideal. Enjoy!

Also.... Wario Land II is fantastic! About a billion secret levels to find once the considerable main game is beaten.

Here's a pic from a few months back, have only added a handful of games to that since. All but 3 are complete (2 without manuals and then unboxed Contra 4) Doesn't look like that many at first glance actually. Have a few doubles which are stacked on top of each other in the pic (though Jam with the Band and the Japanese version (Daigasso Band Bros.) are unique enough I think, with different tracks, I still stacked them)

    DS2-1.jpg

Also for anyone looking for Disgaea DS, there's a pre-owned copy in Gamestop Henry Street at the moment
