That would be my choice too mainly for the rotate mechanism, love that pink and dark grey E2 colour scheme too (link).

Yeah, the Egret's do have very nice colour schemes(very Japanese which I like).

In seriousness though, definitely consider a Windy or the Windy II. They are considered the ultimate cab for SHMUPS by shooting game connosieurs apparently.

Yeah I've played the windy and windy 2 and may still go that way, or another(my last trip to Japan I made a point of going to many arcades and playing many candies :) ).
But I think the Egret 2 will look very cool right beside the Egret 3 and that rotation mech it has is the business.

I plan to have 3 Candies by the end of next year so the Egret 2, 3 and something completely different perhaps, like a windy.

Thinking of starting a companion thread..
"Post here everytime you lose something new"

My lovely copy of Left 4 Dead 2 somehow developed a crack and now won't work!
And, COD:WW won't work either, after I repaired it due to "LAzzzer Burn", resurfaced and all that.

So, to recap, I'm very sad about the former, not so pushed about the latter, it was pants anyways.

Feck. Got all excited when I spotted sega rally on the Dreamcast in a new charity shop beside me. Opened it up to find no disc. Who does these things?!

Oh me and my dreamcast have had serious words about it not playing backups. We're not speaking at the moment.

Still is a paradise for pirates!

That is officially the worst buzz in the world, finding a game box and then having the fifty fifty chance of a game actually being in there, more often than not, no game.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,183 ✭✭✭✭Atavan-Halen

And the on the off chance it is there, it's usually scratched to bits :(

Might pop back tomorrow and see if I can find it!

I was looking at games in a local charity shop recently, picked up a game I wanted but when I checked inside the box there was a disc but it was a porno. The strange thing was I was disappointed... there's something not right about that.

Two 6 buttons pads from teh ebays
Total cost including shipping :3 quid, fake as hell ( the plastic is actually a bit soft!) but they seem to be ok (for the price). They're tiny compared to the 6 button ones , possibly the real japanese pads are smaller.
weird thing is they actually have a segalogo and embossing on the back (sega sj 6000)

these arrived from amazon last week but only getting to put them up now, their retro relevance is somewhat tenuous but I figure people might appreciate them.

Aliens: Infestation and Ico and SOTC, haven't had time to play Ico and SOTC, massive backlog but its been skipped to the top of it

Couldn't resist Extended LOTR on Blu Ray, especially at half the price of a bricks and mortar store,

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 34,753 CMod ✭✭✭✭CiDeRmAn

Well Ico and SOTC are always welcome here as they are stone cold classics.
People 50 years from now will be still playing them, if they aren't all in museums next to copies of Gunstar Heroes, Halo and The Legend of the Dragoon ;)

Aliens: Infestation is great, great because it elevates the 2D platformer, no pun intended.
In fact it achieves what most of the 16-bit era tried but failed to do, produce a 2D platformer based on a movie licence that was actually good! (truth be told the Alien series has done rather better than most in the game licence stakes, are you listening Superman/DC Comics??)

This boring looking grey lump arrived this morning from http://www.airlinktransformers.com, outputs 100v for use with the cab. Previous jobbie was outputting 115v or thereabouts. Not cheap but excellent build quality, heavy fecker too. Bit of a nervous moment turning the cab on incase the lump didn't work and anything went bang. :pac: :o

is the extra 15v a problem?

Honestly I don't know if the extra voltage causes any problems but knowing the rep our psu's have for being delicate I just wanted a convertor that output the proper 100v. Probably more for peace of mind I guess. That airlink place was recommended over on AO so I opted for a 300VA one.

I have one of those switched mode PSU's from giz10p as a backup if the stock psu ever gives up the ghost too.

You'll generally damage the transformer from an incorrect voltage. If you're very unlucky you'll damage the actual appliance itself.

Thinking of getting a DS game or two and cant decide on what to get, little help please?

    Final Fantasy III
    Izuna: Legend of the Ninja
    Lost Magic
    Brothers in Arms
    Magical Starsign
    Children of Mana
    or
    Bangai'O Spirits

What would you recommend best out of these. Also, I am new to the FF franchise so would 3 be a good place to start on the DS?

    Cheers guys!

Out of them, I'd go for Bangai-O Spirits. Great game, and a really cool method of uploading/downloading custom stages

BangaiO Spirits as well. Izuna is a bit weird, if you are looking for a rogue like you would be better off with shiren the wanderer. Not sure about Lost Magic or Magical Starsign. Final Fantasy 3 is not worth getting, it's a really bad update of the NES game. You are better off with the NES game because the battle load times kill it. Children of Mana like all mana games since seiken densetsu 3 is absolute ****.

Cheers, think I will go ahead and get this, seems to be a no brainer purchase on here.

Had a look at Shiren of Wanderer, seems good but dont think I am ready for something like this so will hold off for a little while with this one.

Shame about FF3, guess I will just give the NES version a go instead, thanks for the heads up!

To be honest FF3 isn't that great a game. The job system was only in it's infancy and it was a complete rip off of the Dragon Quest system but not as good. FFV was when the job system became amazing. If you are a big FF fan it might be worth playing but it's not great. The Nes version plays better because the battles are much quicker. There's also some bad game design in that at one point if you don't turn everyone into Dragoons when you gain that job one of the bosses can be nearly impossible. The DS version changes nothing and this is still in the DS game.

I took a chance and bought one of those @games MD clones from a guy on adverts for €20, figuring it may have worked with the firecore passport SD based cart, BIG MISTAKE.
Now I have a crappy MD clone that, well, is crap and I'm €20 lighter in the pocket, feck...

At least I'm getting Batman tomorrow, yeah focus on that, feeling better already!

R4 card and a copy of Soma Bringer with the English translation mod.

One of the only Jrpgs I could stand on the DS , mainly as it plays like a cross between Diablo ,WoW and FFVII even if it has a generic japanese rpg plot and spikey haired protagonist
Of course it never got an English language release, as its excellent , not shovelware and not a poke-frikken-mon game.
