OP most people here are not rearing a family and looking forward to being a grand parent someday, and a lot will post up some liberal populist crap.. Me, I'll say it like it is - I'd be devastated.. Sure there are worst things which a child can be, and I do believe its not a life choice unless they started acting all camp & queer about the whole thing.

But at the end of the day we're family and I'm here to support my children throught thick and thin.

The Romans were pretty "meh" about homosexuality, so long as it wasn't public. As for paedophilia they were particularly snooty about the Greeks and their pederasty. What we might see as overt sexuality, prostitution and porn they were pretty "meh" about too. All during the republic. Snuff? They weren't exactly squeamish about bloodletting, in public too. Gladiatorial games to the death kicked off during the republic. So from what nutty parallel universe you get VERY HIGH SCIENCE in this is beyond me.

In fairness, Gladiatorial games were very rarely to the death, it was normally a first blood scenario. Having some total newbs with little training go at it to the death was far more common, but to have actual ranked Gladiators fight to the death was rare.

So, how would you feel if your child was gay?

They're not really.
I can only speak of my experience and other people i know who are also gay. I'm 19 and just finished school in an all boys school and a lot of people know i'm gay but i was never stereotypically gay. i never had one bad word said against me, i was barely even ever slagged for having red hair. Then there was another guy who was gay who was every stereotype you could mention, never once was he bullied or was a word said about his sexuality when he wasn't there. when i came out my parents had the same view as you, because when they were younger homophobia was rife they thought the same would be true for me but nowadays in the younger generations homophobia is just not acceptable but ofc there'll always be a few idiots.

OP do you have kids already? If not, then I think you need to take a hard look at yourself. I'm not doing this to be harsh and I'm not doing it because I'm uber-liberal, 100% PC or even due to the fact that I'm bisexual myself.

The real issue here is that you have selfish motives behind having children (which you openly admit and fair play to that). I know this is going to sound harsh and I honestly do not mean to act like I'm on a high horse here but...you don't deserve to have children if you are going to be selfish like that. To be a parent you have to love your child and want the best for them. That means accepting them whether they're gay bi straight ginger pale tanned etc. As long as they're happy, you should love them. I don't think you can do that.

I'm not saying it wouldn't be a shock when you first find out they're gay. And of course it would take time to come to terms to it. But ultimately, if you can't love your child unconditionally because of the tiny insignificant fact that he is gay...you honestly don't deserve to have kids.

The main reason you'd be disappointed is the grandchildren thing. Asides from the point that gay couples can have children, what would you do if you had a straight son/daughter who decided not to marry or have kids? Would you be disappointed then?

In other words, would you 'choose' to have a gay son who ends up getting married and adopting children. Or a straight son, who lives all his life without ever wanting to settle down and have kids?

First and foremost I'd be delighted for him/her that they discovered their sexuality, and that they felt comfortable to share it.

The usual house rules would still apply like with any other straight sibling in relation to people staying over etc. Their bf/gf would be welcome the same way as a straight child's bf/gf in the house.

In short, it'd be business as usual!

How would I feel if my child was gay, HUH, there are worse things. How would I feel if my child was fat, ugly, stupid, disabled, lazy, dyslexic, psychotic, a stutterer, deaf, blind and on and on.

You don't choose how your child will be, you just accept them for what they are and hope for the best. Gay people can live happy productive lives, as can any of the above. You have to realise you do not choose the genetic aspects of your children, you have no control. You roll a dice and hope for the best. But what you do control is your attitude towards your children, you might as well make it as best you can for them.

Give them an accepting and loving time and have absolutely no expectations and that includes grand children.

I think people are being a bit hard on the people that want grandchildren.

I would have no problem whatsoever if my boys turned out to be gay but I would also be very sad if I never had grandchildren. It's not selfish to look forward to seeing the family expand with grandchildren and they are a brilliant part of kids' lives.

That said, it's also selfish if you held it against your kids for not wanting kids themselves as they don't need to be gay to not want children.

The thought that a father or mother could turn their back on their own kids for something like sexual orientation is really sad.

So, because people are okay with the idea that their children are gay, they're just posting the PC thing to say and aren't telling the whole truth.
