How would you feel if your child was gay?

I can honestly say it would not be an issue for me either way. If I got pregnant and was told I somehow had the option to choose the baby's sexuality, I simply wouldn't choose.

I don't really accept the "bullying" argument ... I know quite a few perfectly happy gay/bi adults who were never ever bullied growing up. And I know plenty of straight people who were. Being straight is not a guarantee of happiness.

I have to admit, it annoys me when people say they'd "learn to accept it." Your child is their own person, being gay isn't a choice, it's simply a part of who they are. They shouldn't need to wait around for your acceptance of something that they can't (and probably wouldn't want to) change! They shouldn't be made feel like you're doing them some sort of favour by not disowning them over it!

As for the grandparent issue ... Becoming a parent yourself does not give you an entitlement to grandchildren! Plenty of straight people can't have children, plenty don't want children, once they get to that age they're living their own lives and whether they end up having kids or not is nobody's business but their own.

the "bullying" argument - don't be what you are because other people might not like it.

I'm not likely to have children because I'm gay.

My whole family would just be one great gay-fest, but I'd love that.

We'd all go Paris Hilton style and have dogs in our bags.

Ya think that. Ya plan that. Then one day you turn round and it's hoodies and rottweilers...;)

I would love to be a grandfather one day and would find it hard to accept of being deprived that aspiration.

What gives you the right to put such an expectation on another human being?

I suppose I could always smother the kid and try again.

Anything that gets me out of babysitting as a pensioner is to be welcomed.

Your son will only grow up gay if the father doesn't instill a sense of masculinity in them.
There's no gay men with strong father figures in their lives, or they wouldn't be gay.

So don't worry OP, I'm sure you'll do well.

I bet you secretly want a group of men to instill their sense of masculinity in you?

I was asked this question before, what would i think if my child was gay, and i replied, as long as they are happy and healthy i dont mind but would be devastated if they came home and said they wanted to be a PRIEST!!

If priests could marry and have kids then I wouldnt mind!!

Yes. Clearly I'm secretly gay because I'm not screaming homophobic slurs at the OP. Your homophobia is disgusting

what can you do? honestly its not what a hetrosexual father wants to hear, but you would have two choices:

    1. not accept it and lose your son emotionally

    2. accept it and learn to live with it and always make sure your son is happy, loved and feels accepted by you.

No.2 for me as number one would make me a person i wouldnt like to be.

No, you were trying to insult me by implying I'm gay.
    That's straight up bigoted.

Yes, the Grandchildren thing would upset me a little but as long as he was happy and with someone who was good to him, then I'd be happy for him..

This thread looks to have run its course... "I wouldn't care. I'd support the child. As long as the child's happy I'm happy blah blah blah"

Next topic: How would you feel if your child was black?

Everyone seems to be assuming this mythical potentially gay child is male...

Just noticed it's all 'him/he' - would it make a difference if it was her/she?

    Kidchameleon and his
'If I had a daughter who was gay id be delighted a she would be bringing sexy lesbian women home to my house!'
    aside...

No, you've got me wrong. I was using the medium of humour to imply you are a bigot and like all bigots you are also a hypocrite. For example, conservatives who say sex before marriage is wrong often have sex before marriage. People who are vehemently homophobic like to have sex with people from their own sex sometimes. And so on, so forth.
