Im so confused still! What is the difference between a Freesat card and a Free To View Card? I have just bought another card on e bay which is Freeview...is it a Freesat card I need to get Channel 5 onto my EPG??? Dont want to buy a second card and have exactly the same problem....

I am driven demented trying to find a card from the right region..usually the details on ebay are very sketchy....
One from Nottingham will do the trick. If you go back one of the porters on here has one to sell on ebay.

There is no such thing as a freesat card. Freesat is Free to Air.
Sky's free system requires a freesatfromsky card.
Freeview is the uk digital terrestrial system. No card for that either.

What you need is a freesatfromsky card or an ex subscription uk sky card. Blue or white will do. Preferably white as this will give you access to uk freetoview channels when the white card is in box.
To get Ch5 you need a card from Wales or england outside london and below yorkshire area. Westcountry is perfect or that general area.

If it's definately the Anglia West subregion you have then it's the 12402V version of ITV1 Anglia W that you need. This region is encrypted but it doesn't matter because all ROI cards have the entitlements to watch it.

Alternatively just add ITV1 London and go to 993 on the EPG and you should have it here.

Thanks - now have itv1 west Anglia sorted. The only channel I am missing is itv hd1 - I think this is because Anglia uses the itvhd1 meridian channel, which isn't tunable in add other channels because it is on dvbs2?

    Ya, unfortunately so!

Does anyone know does the reverse of this work. If you are in the UK and use a cancelled Irish card will you get the Irish channels on to the epg.

It would but the Irish channels are encrypted so all you would get is this channel is not available.

I'm selling one here that I can guarantee will put channel 5 unscrambled on the epg. It's an ITV central card.

Some English sellers ebay settings won't post to Ireland, I emailed one and he sold me a FTV card for €8, the last white card I saw sold for €26 still good value in my opinion for the extra channels you get and the recording facility.

The thing is anyone selling cards on E Bay doesnt specify what region they are from.....I have asked one or two sellers but all they say is you can get Channel 5...no idea if its encrypted or not...Just bought a second card so fingers crossed!!!

Be very careful buying them on ebay there are quite a few regions that will not work.

Have one that does here on adverts if anybodies interested:

Anyone else have trouble with Channel 5 recordings last night?? My recording of Big Brother failed and I cant get into any of the programmes on my planner..It says there is a problem with my card?? If I reboot the box, I will lose Channel 5 off the epg as I only borrowed a card from a mate...

Cool - I am going to try this tonight with my old Blue FTV card :-)

    Got ITV1, 2, 3, 4 and BBC 1 HD - I think my card is from London.

I am not really bothered by not having Channel 5.
Is anybody else's ITV1 HD sound out of sync ? All other channels are fine but this one always seems to be out of sync.

    I am seeing that alright.

Mine recorded fine, it's repeated at 12.15pm on Channel 5 the next day if the night recording ever fails.

Just picking up on this point (re details in first post) is the ftv card needed again after the procedure?

Not needed again unless the power goes and resets the box.

Or sky do an OTA update that resets it (presumably)

I managed to get ITV 1, ITV2, ITV3, ITV4 & ITVHD on to my EPG. When I have the FTV card in Channel 4 HD & BBC1 HD are on the EPG also but dont remain when I replace my Irish subscription card. Any ideas why this might be?

We can't tune them into other channels.

With the changes of transponders for BBC News, Parliament and Alba, you'll need to delete the old versions from Other Channels, add the new frequencies and do the procedure again.

Correct. I did same this evening and I now see that ITV1HD lip-sync on a London region card is OK again :)

Nice one! Just FYI - It also works using multiple FTV cards to add the channels you want. I used an expired white UK card from East Anglia to add Channel 5 and ITVs etc and then used an old blue FTV UK London postcode card to get BBC1 London on 101.

Shame my box didn't have BBC 1 HD in other channels before the DVB-S2 TP change....

Could you explain the procedure for doing this please ? I have a London card and can now get a loan of Midlands card for Channel 5. I want to end up with BBC1 London on 101, ITV1 London on 103 and Channel 5 on 105. Do I load up the London channels first or the Midlands ? what channels should be in my Other Channels ? All London ones and just Midlands Channel 5 ? I would appreciate a quick reply. Thanks.

Basically from what I recall (I only use the London card now in the procedure) I booted the box with the Anglia UK card to get Ch5 as 105. Then I swapped to the London card to get BBC1 London as 101, BBC 2 England 102, ITV London 103 and Ch4 104. Then I swapped again for to the ROI card to get RTE1 etc. OF course you need to have the correct FTA channels added to the "other channels" list. Use kingofsat.net to help list the correct TP frequencies to add.

I don't bother with the Anglia card now as it stops me getting ITV 1 HD as it uses the Sky encrypted version. The London card doesn't so I get ITV HD but no CH5 as the London version of that is Sky encrypted. I figure ITV 1 HD is better to have then Ch5....

    Hope this helps.

Thanks a million for the quick reply. One last question, when you say you swapped Anglia card for London card, did you switch off box but not plug out from mains, or did you power off completely before switching cards, or did you leave box completely on and just swapped cards ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,259 ✭✭✭MBSnr

Initial power (from mains off) with Anglia card in slot. I 'think' I then just tuned to Ch5 with the Anglia card in place and EPG loaded. Then I swapped cards to the London one while Ch5 was on screen and then waited until the EPG updated with 104 Ch4 103 ITV etc, then I tuned to one to test and then finally swapped out with the ROI card.

To do it now I don't bother checking the channels. Boot up with London card - wait until EPG loads with 998 sky channel. Turn off with remote (standby) - swap to ROI card and walk away. TBH I don't think it matters to much if you are watching the channel or not. It seems to be that whatever is in the FTA 'other channels' list, for that regions card, that is left in the EPG when the next card is put in. This is regardless of the state of the box - on or off.

It works fine, but as you say no ITV HD if I have Channel 5. Why does my London card import BBC 1 London and ITV1 London and has no problem with the midlands CH 5, but will not import ITV1Hd if I have used the Midlands card, even though I have ITV1 Hd London if my other channels ?
