Also bought a lovely boxed (in the plastic snap-box) Japanese copy of Biomotor Unitron to go along with it. It's aparantly similar to pokémon :pac:

    awesome
whats the deal with buying from japan . is it just a case of chancing ebay.jp and praying that due to the language barrier you havent just ordered a crate of used yogurt pots?

There's a couple of ways to do it. The first and easiest way is to buy items listed in Japan on ebay. The second and probably most difficult is to buy from Yahoo auctions as there's no Japanese ebay site. The problems you'll run into here is the language barrier (if you don't speak or read Japanese) and postage as it's all Japan only afaik. So you'll have to use a site that provides you with a Japanese address which takes delivery of your item and then forwards it to you for a small fee.

A recent purchase/arrival. From the title screen it seems to be a European version? Came with a page of dip switch settings and some PCB feet too. Just hooked it up to an LCD to make sure it all worked ok. Happy as larry with it. :D

Very nice. So annoyed that Raiden 2's encryption still hasn't been cracked :(

Beautiful! Utterly beautiful! Congratulations, I'm not sure if that's your first board or not but it appears we may have been bitten by the PCB bug at the same time. Kudos, that's a fine board. :)

Cheers. Not my first pcb but only have a couple in total. Happy enough with the mame pc in the cab and hopefully put a jtag in there also so not planning on getting lots of boards. Having said that there are a few on my radar that I'd like to get.
Plan on shedding some console related stuff soon for fundage. :)

I think that's the slogan to speak for every single user on this forum!

What other PCBs do you have?

I've a few on my radar too. A couple I have to buy as as far as I know there are no console versions of them.

I'd dearly love full cave kits but they are really up there at the height of any collectors list and budget.

One of the two I'm after I just totally fluked and won in an ending auction. Curse you for posting pics of your new PCB!

This is the game I won, one of my absolute favourites as a kid and thankfully this PCB is the joystick version. :)

Excellent congrats! Was only playing that the other night, just on mame ofc. Great game that is.

That is one of my fave games as well!
Very similar to Neo Drift Out but more varied.
Raiden 2 as well, another of my favourites, well done on catching that one!

Someday I'll collect all the Raiden series jamma boards.

Thanks. :) I don't think either game got a home version, correct me if I'm wrong. What's the story with the Raiden 2 encryption by the way?

No idea about a home conversion, I haven't come across one anyway.

Don't know much about the Raiden 2 encryption other than I remember o1s1n mentioned ages ago that folk weren't able to emulate it properly. A quick Google yields this site, http://www.raidenii.net/, sounds like an ongoing thing. Must have a read into the subject.

Haven't checked that link yet but doesn't Raiden IV have similar issues?

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 10,943 Mod ✭✭✭✭Andrew76

Not sure dude Raiden IV is pretty recent. What's interesting to me is Raiden II is a fairly old game, I would've thought some clever folk would have cracked it by now.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,328 ✭✭✭Pyongyang

I think there are quite a few PCBs and home games that remain 'unfiddled' with. I think Raiden IV though requires a dongle to run, at least one in the series does.

Ah yes you're correct, I remember seeing one for sale over on AO and it had a usb dongle with it. Runs on the Taito Type X hardware.

Got a PSOne with no power supply today.

Also got some more NGP games.

I always been curious as to the reasons behind the popularity of the Neo Geo Pocket Color. I'd be interested in hearing peoples' reasons for liking them and collecting for them. They seem to be the darlings of retro forums the world over!

I think one of the reasons for getting one is they are a cheap entry level system to get into the world of Neo Geo gaming. Because I'm well into that myself with my AES and a raft of AES conversions on compilation discs, I have kind of ruled out the NGCP as being a little bit Neo Geo-lite. Is that a fair call or does the format actually stand up to other systems?

I don't mean to be hard on the system, I've never really played on it, but I am unsure of the quality of the games.

The games look very collectable in their nice little boxes and a full set is fairly easy to collect in comparison to other formats, but is it really worth getting as I have an AES and a GB, GBC, GBA, 3DS and DS which I'm happy with?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,183 ✭✭✭✭Atavan-Halen

Well the thumbstick for one is amazing! :P

I'd say get one, they're not expensive and have some great games on them. Can't wait for mine to arrive!

Half considering going for a complete NGP collection myself. Is there anything outrageously expensive on it?

I got my dodgy knock off chinese video capture device today
(here's a similar one as I cant get a photo)
    1116903_290.jpg
Its probably going to be a bitch to get working , and until I make new cables the only way its going to pick up some of my RF based 8 bit computers I'm going to have to route the signal out through a vcr , but hopefully I can get something up on yt with it later.
Let me know if you need ANY help with it.

I have about 4 of them myself which I've been using for years..

Also, it won't work on W7!

It's definitely a machine worth collecting for. It might have been a failure but the quality of the games on the system is surprising. I only got into the system recently after getting a very cheap NGPC from ebay. The system can be gotten for very cheap and the games even cheaper. Unboxed the games are dirt cheap with some ebay sellers doing some excellent bundles. Even the rarer games like Faselei etc. have high buy it now prices but it's worth waiting until one comes up for auction since it seems that nobody is really bidding on them so they can usually go for the reserve price.

Other than the screen being the same crappy reflective TFT screen the original GBA uses, it's a great system. It's got far more grunt than the Gameboy colour since it's true 16-bit and yet has 5 times the battery life with 40 hours out of 2 AA's. The controls are fantastic with the mini microswitch joystick being sublime.

As for the games, there's a small library but at the time SNK was one of the best developers around so the quantity to quality ratio is better than most systems. SNK's beat'em ups are absolutely superb on the system. The quality of the fighting games will surprise you and differ from the games they are based on and offer good single player modes. There's some original fighters as well like Gals Fighters. Other than the beat'em ups you have some great puzzle games with magical drop, puzzle bobble, puzzle link etc. There's also a decent Sonic game and osme great RPG's in Faselei!, Biomotor Unitron, Card Fighters etc. There's some other great games on there as well. With such a small release list and the cheap games it's very easy to pick up every good game on the system.

I took the bus to limerick at the weekend and brought my PSP and NGPC. I spent more time playing SNK vs Capcom and Gals Fighters than the PSP :)

Only real problem I've found is trying to find the sweet spot between 1gb per 1min recordings and really jumpy quality tiny ones.(faffing about with divx /ffmpeg compression causes it to crash , a lot)

I use Sony Vegas... Cannot fault it

Even Windows Movie Maker will convert them no problem

Likewise, I bought Vegas last week. I got the 10 Platinum Suite as the only difference between 10 and 11 is 3D capabilities and more file formats. Nothing much else warrants the extra expense I think.

As for the NGP I have one and a few games, Cotton is the most expensive I think at around €150+ (which I probably won't buy because of the following point). I think it's a great handheld device but the lack of backlight really irks me.

@Retr0gamer: nice work! I really would love to get Puyo Pop for my Puyo Puyo collection, I didn't know there was an NGP edition. :)

Damn Retr0, I only picked up a PSone without a PSU the other week, so my spare one was called into action!
    Arse!

    Get Rollcage 2 for it!
