Can some one with a bit more knowledge on the matter tell me what is the story of this watch. How is it being sold as 'New' with papers, etc. when it has been manufactured sometime pre-2000? Where does this stock come from. Is it just a mash up of parts?

Really like these older style Vostoks and would be interested in this but just looking for a bit more info first.

Looks like a mash up to me.... Pics don't look like the same thing tbh.

Too expensive too. I got a good amphibia delivered for 50 dollars (It was used though)

Those photos aren't even all of the same watch, the 3rd one has a different face (tank) to the first, so how do you know what you're getting?

  • Registered Users Posts: 236 ✭✭Doc Daneeka

    Cheers guys.

Ha, hadn't even spotted the two different faces! Bit sloppy really. Yeah, looked dear but was just wondering really.

Out of interest, is it possible to get one of these earlier ones that is automatic? When did the Amphibia's go auto?

    Doc.

No franken, no mix & match, nothing dodgy about it and as a bonus you can scratch it yourself :D

Both of those are very nice.

Having recently discovered the Vostok Amphibia I gotta say I think those older style cases were nicer. Still, have a new one on the way so looking forward to receiving it now.

  • Registered Users Posts: 17,819 ✭✭✭✭peasant

They really ought to re-launch the octagon style case with a decent bezel and no silly dials ...they'd make a killing, IMO

    170989.jpg

Well ...they made a start with the Amphibia "1967" ...but that ain't no bargain anymore

Aristo "Aristocrat", brandnew watch in classical 60's style. Dia. 38 mm, Sellita (sp?) automatic movement, normal retail ~ 325 + Euro ...this one sells for 245,- including original packaging and two years manufacturer's warranty.

    A Russian again ...for a change :D

    $(KGrHqJ,!joE4s6P9v4lBOVVQPV(eQ~~48_3.JPG

One of the new style "Amfibia" range (note the "f" instead of "ph").
42 mm, 200 m diver with the usual Vostok 2416b automatic movement in a (what I find) quite daring but pleasing design.

They used to be around the 200 Euro mark ...this one could be yours for 155 incl. shipping

Very nice IWC. It's been withdrawn but I'm sure a pm would do the trick.

That is verry classy, you must be as bad as me, do you spend the whole day looking at watches on tinterweb?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,731 ✭✭✭Bullseye1

I'm kinda surprised this one hasn't sold yet. Vintage 1959 Longines and mechanical and only $185

I was thinking about that one ^ verrrrrrrry hard. The last 'slot' I have to fill is for a pure dress watch.

It's just too small for me though.

Steve McQueen Monaco €1300 (no papers)
    http://forums.watchuseek.com/f29/fs-tag-heuer-monaco-steve-mcqueen-eur-1-300-a-591283.html

Might interest someone here. But how could you ensure it's legit?

There was never a decent replica of the Tag Monaco ever...vintage or modern, they scream fake from 20 feet away,
Heres some proof to back that up.....
    <URL REMOVED>

And another (the brand is "not shown in the pics for copyright reasons" WTF? .. I wouldnt mind buying it if it was unbranded just because I like the look of it, but not if it has Tag Heuer written all over it)

    <URL REMOVED>

It could be a bit frankened, but there is really no way to guarantee against that even from an AD, I would want better pics, much much better pics, the ones posted would be useless for identification purposes.....also I have noticed a lot of pricey watches coming from Malta on a lot of forums lately, Malta is not a big place, makes me wonder a bit + thats listed at about half what it might make on eBay, it seems very iffy

... I always thought the Monaco was supposed to wear very big on the wrist, until I found out McQueen was only 5'6 ..... jeez anybody could get away with it at that rate.

    Mod Note:
Marcus, I've had to remove the links in your post. Please (re)familiarise your self with the charter, especially point 4.

As a compromise, at least for the moment, perhaps embedding images, ala Homers A tale of caution, might be the best way to do things if comparisons are required.

Well thats fair enough, but in (re)familiarising my self with the charter I can't see the problem.

You should probably have expanded on your deletion of the links because, I did not link to any fake/replica watch site, nor did I link any fake or replica watches as they were described by the seller,I linked 2 specific eBay auctions one of which was clearly attempting to sell a Tag Heuer Monaco as a genuine watch, this follows closely on with the general theme of this discussion http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2056397726
re: buyers protecting themselves from being scammed by sellers on eBay who are passing replica watches on as genuine. This is common place on most watch forums, especially WUS who are very much against promoting replica/fakes in their charter - but at the same time have whole sub-sections devoted to calling out fake auctions on eBay etc. in order to help out their members, such as this specific sub-section in the Omega forum:
    http://forums.watchuseek.com/f441/

Its really no different to calling out a fake watch for sale on craigslist, in a bricks and morter auction house, almost every single high value watch for sale on Done Deal or even adverts.ie, like in this thread:
    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=73467721
I remember this thread specifically because I posted it, but I'm sure there are dozens and dozens of posts here over the years asking for help with authenticating watches for sale here and there, especially on eBay and I can't really see the difference.

Obviously you can interpret the posts any way you want - and thats fair enough, there has to be some kind of law, but it would be nice of you cleared up the fact that I didn't actually break any of the rules in the charter, didn't include any links to websites selling fake watches (which should include banning eBay altogether, as they probably unwittingly sell more fake watches than anywhere else :D) but as a protection to other board users who might be contemplating the purchase of such a watch.
The original link that sparked off the Monaco debate is probably iffy at best, the watch is described as genuine, it may or may not be ...but it is described as genuine, just as in the link I posted, whats the difference?

As much as I appreciate all your very sound input, your pedantry at times is becoming a bit tiresome and I'd appreciate if you could tone it back.

Fair enough, but there is no need to be insulting, I didn't realise I was boring people, I thought that threads were started, posts are written to open up discussion from lots of different angles about all aspects of the general hobby or whatever you would call it, I didn't think I was doing anything wrong.

If I have forced my opinion on anybody or ruined/hijacked their threads then I will apoligize for that, I can accept that my posts might be long winded and boring to casual passers by, but at the same time its not like anybody is forced to read any of it.

Well if that isn't an incredibly rude, unwarranted and condescending comment to make about anybody, especially in public I don't know what is, I really would have no interest in discussing it with you any further.

I have always found your posts to be both informative and to the point Marcus and you are of great assistance to us that do not have a lot of knowledge in the area of watches and timepieces.;)

  • Registered Users Posts: 10,150 ✭✭✭✭Marcusm

I will comment also that I find Marcus1971's post to be highly informative and detailed in an enthusiast manner which I would not like to preclude. And that has nothing to do with the fact that my name is Marcus, I was born in 1971 and have an unhealthy interest in (and expensive collection of) watches.

In a slight change of protocol ...here is today's bargain watch that DID actually buy :D

    Reef%20gelb.jpg

Vostok Amfibia "Reef", diameter 42 mm, 200m waterproof, the ususal Vostok 2416 / 31 Jewel auto movement, solid steel bracelet, luminescent dial.

These normally retail for 150 - 200 Euro (depending on the seller) ...I bagsied this one for 120 delivered in an e-bay auction.

Now to wait (again) for the loooong postage from Russia

very nice. never been big into watches but found this thread interesting and liking these russians watches. always being wary of buying this sort of stuff on line but that watchuseek website is very handy.

is there any shops in Dublin that sell these types of watches?

Looks great - if that has a decent quality finish (presume it does) it was a steal.

The last thing I need is an interest in Russian/soviet watches but...

looks good in the pics anyway, and if my K-34 Komandirskie is anything to go by the finish should be beyond reproach (especially when considering the price)

It's nice, I'd never noticed before on the MO the way the minute hand twists like a propeller.

    Beautiful blue hands :)
