Nice CPU and nice OC, but why two 5870s? If you use Crossfire you have Microstutters and a higher input lag. Does your system have an SSD? But overall, very nice rig.:D

A Gamer shouldn't buy them any more, the i7-2600K is faster than the i7-990X in most games.

Nice rig, wouldn't buy a second 5870, you'll get microstutters and a higher input lag. And I would buy an SSD. The NZXT Phantom case looks cool!
microstuttering is a myth, I have 2 5870s and with the new drivers they outperform everything cept the gtx 590 and they only miss out on that by a few frames, got an sata 3 ssd in that rig aswell best decision for boot up times if your running windows off it

the microstutters were caused in the early 4000 ati cards by a number of things but mainly poor drivers and power distribution problems

Glad to hear that micro-stuttering isn't such a big problem anymore, good that you have an SSD. SSDs make a huge difference.:)

So does anybody else in this thread think they're going to mysteriously disappear for a couple of days when Skyrim is released?

I played it but I never got into it sadly :(. I loved the supernatural side to it (The ending especially) though and the tessellation was spectacular! I prefer open world games at the end of the day.

Every time I look at Metro 2033 I think of the subway areas in Fallout 3 and it deters me from playing it.

This game will cause me to fail all my classes unless I save it for the Chritmas holidays.

You should check out STALKER. Similar atmosphere to Metro but with an open world where you can do anything

The first one is a tenner on steam, and its 24 dabs for the trilogy. A bargain for such an underappreciated gem

It really annoys me that Skyrim, MW3 and Halo CER are within a week of each other.

I don't think I'll go out anymore once Diablo III comes out.

Portal 2 (and Terraria) came out during my exams this year. These things can be managed. Also irishgirl10 I'm pretty sure girls are allowed to play video games (if anyone makes a "lol girls don't play games" joke I will end them, in a very poorly defined sense) as well, though console gamers... well, we'll see. :p

But you haven't tried it yet! Role-playing games are superior to video games in every conceivable way. It's pretty much the most fun you can possibly have without entering some kind of shady pact with an untrustworthy demon

But by joining it means you will remain a virgin, or actually re-virginify if you have already lost it.:D

Hey all. I see the Gamers society has come up for discussion, and I'm enjoying all the commentary about us here. :)

As President of the society, though, I might clarify a few things. Gamers focuses primarily on board games, collectible card games, wargames, tabletop roleplaying games, and live-action roleplaying games. We have organised a couple of LAN nights in the past, but it's true that computer games aren't our primary focus.

That being said, we cater to a lot of very fun hobbies, and we find that a lot of people who are into computer gaming enjoy our stuff as well.

If anyone who's in Halls wants to chat to us more, we'll be at the Halls Societies' event on the 17th of September, from 2pm to 5pm, with our giant Jenga set and our foam swords, so you can see some of what we're about there. We also have a forum at http://forum.leprecon.info - feel free to register and say hi.

We don't have *many* people who play Yu-Gi-Oh (more Magic: the Gathering), but I'm sure we can find some. I know we have a bunch of old cards somewhere in the soc room....
