got a reply from argos CS :(

    Dear Sir,

    Subject: Reference Number XXXXXXXX

Thank you for your e-mail regarding your reservation.

I am very sorry to learn of the problems that you have experienced purchasing the HP TouchPad. I can confirm that a notice was issued on our website on Tuesday stating that no reservations for this item would be accepted. As such all reservations processed on the system have now been cancelled, and the HP TouchPad is being sold on a strictly first come first served basis.

    i reserved on sunday btw

For those of you who got your hands on a Pre3, this may be of interest:

I was just wondering about which service provider would give us the best deal for our brand new unlocked smartphones... We're gonna need a decent amount internet gigs, especially for those who also have a Touchpad and tether them to use the Pre3 as a mobile hotspot. I have about 1gig a month as is and in 20 months I've only busted that a couple of times but, like I said, if we use the thing as a mobile hotspot, we might find ourselves drinking up a lot more than that! Anybody any ideas?

I'm thinking it might be possible to do a deal with them if we have a large enough number of people interested, we may possibly be able to have some say in the terms we get... Anybody interested in pooling their purchasing power to this end?

P.s. Maybe this should be in it's own thread...?

Basq, any suggestions where this best belongs?

Have a reservation for a 32 gig in Dundrum that I made Sunday. Got an email and a text, both with a reservation code. Collection estimate isn't till next Wednesday though. How likely is it that they'll honour the reservation? :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 229 ✭✭Babyblessed

    Yay!!

Got my 32gb from the retail park in Cork about 45mins ago!

Doubt I will see much of it as OH now playing with it! Ah well, he did want one and now has mine !

Got to say thanks to the Manager in the store who looked into this in great detail for me. Same cant be said for their HQ who were appalling!

I have to say I have enjoyed this thread, its been fun, frustrating and extremely funny at times! Sort of addicted to the thread so will prob keep looking in... See what ye have all done, I only came to 'Bargain Alerts' for the 'couponing' thread! Thanks again OP!

My FNAC order seems to have changed to order preparation, hope that's a good sign

Order preparation Your order is currently being prepared. An email will confirm shortly shipment. In France, the delivery time is generally found 24 to 48 hours, which you must add a few extra days if you order from a foreign country. Note: In the case of a pre-order you will receive the item ordered on the day of national release. Close

Contacted Argoshelpers on Twitter who've confirmed my reservation in Argos should be in tomorrow, here's hoping!

I am going to miss this thread when it is gone...

It brought so many people together... Probably it pushed more apart

But most of all it was at times very funny to read!

Aren't HP getting more stock in? If so then there's a lot of life left in the ol' thing.

    I wouldn't bank on it.
I'd say the frenzy of the last few days was what HP were hoping for when they launched the thing. I don't imagine the decision to bin the touchpad was taken over the weekend so I'd say they're only selling whatever was in the warehouses at the 100 quid price. Probably not even breaking even at this price so it would be madness to expect them to restock.

I'm sure someone posted a techradar article saying more were on the way.

They're not making any more (and they're 100% making a loss). This seems to have been the clearout of the stuff already in the distribution channel; there have been a few articles stating they will be shipping out more next week. (Confirmed in US I believe, not sure about Europe)

for being on course to reach 10,000 posts in about 10 days I reckon it needs to be nominated for a legend of boards thread and that :D

doubt any thread on boards has ever got any sort of attention like this ever before and will be a long time before anything like this happens again I reckon :pac:
