yeah i think the people who work at argos are entitled to them 1st, the job has to have some perks

Prior to having items reserved by customers yes. I would imagine that staff would have first hand prior to number entering the live stock anyway.

New staff can be recruited in an instant.

Yes but the cost of recruiting and training new staff is far more then the profit made off a 100 or so units especially when they actually shifted the product anyway as staff probably weren't able to get these at a discounted price so argos have lost nothing.

yeah i think the people who work at argos are entitled to them 1st, the job has to have some perks

They are able to see stock price changes etc 24 hours before publication or changes in the pricing system.

Major discounted items can be searched for with a simple change between previous price and new price, so you can see items dropping big time, and if so wish, reserve that item

Its the same as any shop really, you know whats going on before it happens so you take advantage, I wouldnt foul anyone for it.

In fact if I worked for Currys/pcworld id be raging that i wasnt allow buy one I'd be raging

New staff can be recruited in an instant. Bitter and angry customers are difficult to appease.

Yes, you're right. This product is utterly useless to anyone who isnt an 'uber-leet-haxor-dude'

HP is still supporting and developing webOS. It's the hardware side of things, they are taking a step back from.

but they know how to use ebay!!

True, eBay will be interesting, the true value of this device will be determined there.

Considering the driving force of this tsunami of demand is the cost, how much would you pay on eBay?

I was speaking to Argos head office and they said there is none in stock in any of the stores in Ireland and the UK.... She said it's the bulk of calls they are receiving today from angry customers!
She also said they would not be restocking the hp touchpad again as there would be no more from HP.

I got some bull**** excuse from the staff in the Drogheda store about them getting a fax from HP telling them to withdraw them from sale..... But the girl in head office said if any member of staff held one for themselves they would be reprimanded heavily!

    And the search goes on.

No one's saying that. What people are saying is that people think they're going to buy a Touchpad today and will have a one click installer that'll instantly transform their Touchpad in to a Motorola Xoom-esque tablet.

I don't think most people understand the difficulty involved in changing the operating system of an embedded system.

People shouldn't pay more than €120 for the 16GB and €140ish for the 32GB. An obsolete tablet isn't worth more than that.

What's happened here is there has been such a hype about the touchpad that staff members that didn't have their name down for one have changed their minds and are taking reserved stock for themselves.

Thats what i was talking about and Expansys did not contact my friend but shipped and charged at full price. Be careful is all im saying...

Yeah but this is enough proof that my card has not been charged and they will contact me to RE-confirm the order before shipping.

So at least this gives me comeback if they do ship at the full price without contacting me first.

Anyway I posted this as it is the latest update I got.

But staff would obviously have been the first to notice the price drop in their shops. They could therefore have been the first to reserve them if they wanted them. The problem I have is with staff who had no interest initially, but when they saw the demand, they concluded that the touchpads were highly valuable, so they took touchpads that customers had reserved either for themselves, for others, or, most disgracefully, to sell on ebay for a higher price.

Unfortunatly there are many items hoolding steady at €200+ with multiple bids, the hoards have spoken.

Come up with that "One click installer" and you might might be onto a winner......patent pending of course:D

I was only interested in them at €99 (or €130 for the 32GB).

I've no intention of getting into a bidding frenzy on ebay or lining the pockets of profiteers.

Personally tablets barely interest me, but at €99 I could justify it for casual net browsing.
My orders just disappeared from Amazon!
    Mine also.

I was just in the store in Drogheda, the staff Staff there said they got a fax from HP this morning not to sell any to customers today.... Bullcrap if ever I heard it!! Keeping them for themselves.... Just waiting on word back from head office in England as thy said they never got such a fax!

In this day and age who still uses Fax???
