not really, it's their stock, they can do what they want with it.

plus how likely is it that these people understand the arrangment under which most of us plan to use this device? Can't see the average argos box chucker porting to android, can you? it will never be an Ipad in those hands!

If they don't fill your order then a staff member has taken your unit for themselves.

Do you have any proof of this?

Of course they can, but if they are cancelling customers reservations to sell to staff instead that would be very poor customer service. If that is what's going on it's very fair to complain about it IMO.

Anyone who doesn't get their Argos reservation fulfilled should strenuously follow up with Argos on it if they want to get to sort it out. Argos operate a live stock system so anyone with a reservation valid to the following day has stock physically in the store that cannot be sold there.

From a customer and PR point of view its really not a great thing to be doing.

Doesn't matter now, it was a completely flukey reservation and there won't be any more.
How do you know there wont be anymore?

Do you have any proof of this?

I have proof that an employee purchased a touchpad this am without having any reservation, she didn't even know what a touchpad was until last night. All TouchPads were reserved and now people with valid reservations are being turned away.

I suggest you do what I did and email them.
The more of us email them the more chance they'll put a stop to staff taking them when stock comes in.

Yes, you're right. This product is utterly useless to anyone who isnt an 'uber-leet-haxor-dude'

It doesn't really matter proving it.The fact is if people complain to Argos it might put a stop to it happening with the next batch.
I'd think Argos would prefer to see the customer happy.

I have a reservation code with Argos for collection from today thru saturday. However the text that I received from them stated that I would receive a follow up text when the item arrives in stock. Reservation was placed on Sunday night. How many of you are awaiting the follow up text ?

The fact that you are accusing people of doing something on a public forum would suggest that it is important that you can prove it

Guys, I came across this crowd selling the Touchpad.

    http://www.luzerntech.com/products/computers-hp-webos/hp-fb405uaabb-hp-palm-pre-2-sim-free-unlocked-smartphone-mobile-webos-2.0.html

I've emailed them about stock and the price. No reply yet.

    but he has a point.

The majority of these people would never have been interested in a tablet until they heard the bargain.
Then the "oh, i need one cos alot of other people want them so much" attitude kicks in.

I have no problem at all with staff getting first dibs on these things (although not at the expense of people with reservations for argos). They work crap jobs for crap wages, why shouldn't they get the occasional perk?
It's irrelevant if they don't get good money. They have accepted to do a job so they are expected to do it properly. Otherwise let them sigh on and give that job so somebody with a higher work ethic.

sorry in relation to this, keeping their staff happy with the odd bonus like this is probably more beneficial them then the odd consumer as it may encourage higher productivity that far out weigh the % profit they would of gotten off these few touchpads

I e-mailed amazon yesterday asking if my order would be fulfilled and this was the response:

    Hello Kevin,

Thank you for contacting Amazon.co.uk and we can understand you are so eager in receiving the item.

I'm sorry to inform you that we currently run out of stock for this item from our suppliers due to heavy demand, but our suppliers confirmed that they able to get it and it will be soon back in stock.

While we do our best to adhere to our estimates, our inventory is constantly changing based on information we receive directly from our suppliers, and occasionally, changes in our supply chain can add time to your order.

Once we receive the item from our suppliers we will dispatch it as First come First serve basis and it will be dispatched according to the method you specify and for the same price which you have ordered for.

I hope that you would understand that being the retailers we are totally dependent on our suppliers for the supply. So I can confirm that your order will be completed soon and we never let our customers to be disappointed for their orders placed with us.

We will update you once we have received an estimated arrival date from the vendor.

Also when we dispatch it from our Fulfilment Centre well send you an e-mail confirming the date, contents and method of delivery.

    How can you prove that?

I could possibly lay my hands on a non-reserved receipt for this morning showing staff discount.

If you do suspect a particular argos employee of taking a pad that was reserved for someone else you should report it to the area manager and head office and give them the employee's name. They will, I'm reasonably sure, have used their employee discount code when they purchased it which is an individual code and it would be very simple for head office to check the records to see if you were wronged by them.

Hell, its worth a shot at least.

I don't agree with the logic of that but anyway.

There is a lot of fudge and waffle going about and not the tasty kind either. A lot of people are angry and upset. In an attempt to helpfull, I'll give you my observation, for what it's worth...

The Touchpad and Pre3 were abruptly cut short without the prior knowledge of their development team. This ought to mean that everyone in the supply chain were also in the dark, top to bottom, executive officer to manufacturers and logistics. So I'd imagine that, although no more are being manufactured, there are no doubt many more in limbo along the supply chain. In the factory and possibly in logistics warehouses around the world.

On top of this, HP are saying that they're not abandoning Webos but will continue to develope it. This makes sense if they plan on licensing it or selling the operating unit as a going concern(If the only the Intelectual Property/Patents, then this may not hold up), Propective buyers will pay more for WebOS if there is something of an ecosystem to go with it rather than a desolate wasteland.

To this end, I would urge you not to put a buggy version of Android onto your Touchpad just yet. There is a healthy "homebrewing"(as opposed to Jailbreaking) community that are passionate about WebOS. The more active WebOS Touchpads there are out there, the more likely this will not be WebOS's death knell and hopefully future updates could be in the works.

IMHO, WebOS is the best mobile OS out there, it has got a bad start and a very rough time since. It's the most user friendly I've gotten my hands on, it's intuitive, integrated, consistent and it looks damn good. There's a lot that can be done to customise it thanks to homebrew which HP aren't just cool with but actively encourage, unlike Apple who'll just brick your device should you try and act like you actually own your device.

I'd say hang in there to all who've got their hands on one and to all those who haven't yet, chill out and be patient, this isn't over yet! Who knows, maybe some of the 3G/4G 1.5ghz dualcore versions may materialise out of the woodwork yet...

    Good luck and good hunting!

New staff can be recruited in an instant. Bitter and angry customers are difficult to appease.

Just got the following mail from Expansys...

    "Hello,

for the moment we do not know the price as our suppliers don’t offer it at discount prices at least not at this time so your order is on hold till we will have the confirmation.

You card has not been charged but the money has been reserved according the value of the order.

we are in talks with suppliers right now but some far we got no reply or confirmation about this from them or HP directly if they will honour this rebate.

If this is confirmed, we will contact all backorders and let them know the new price as soon as we will have confirmed information and asked them to RE-confirm the orders before shipping them out. "

looks promising if HP confirm the price drop.

Thats what i was talking about and Expansys did not contact my friend but shipped and charged at full price. Be careful is all im saying...

As a former Argos employee, its actually the easiest thing in the world to edit a reservation and insert your own details and use 1 of a million excuses .

Granted I never did this myself, its extremely easy to do, and its very much common practice so I wouldnt be suprised if this did happen.

I remember a price change on a 36"HDTV went from €500 down to €140 and the stock was instantly spoken for by UK Argos staff, and ensued the epic reservation war of 2007
