    From Dabs:

We are awaiting the stock to be shipped from our supplier, this should ship directly within the next few days.

Misco just sold them internally .. well that sucks alright ... kinda shows the contempt for customers here.
But will any of us actually stop using a store because of this?

I have never use Dabs, Pixmania again (for other crap like this).
I stopped with PC World when staff got some reduced stuff that they had no idea about till i called in reserving it, though yesterdays handling of the touchpad was very commendable (blocking staff and sorting customers on a fcfs).

How did you find out the your order was canceled ?

Probably (Argos) bought them all themselves and either offered them to their staff with an additional staff discount, OR, gave them out as Bonus's or something similar.

Great idea & incentive, but not at the expense of customers, especially after they were reserved. Had they taken them offline completely late last week when this whole thing was announced, then no one would give a rats.

First it would be in breach of contract, assuming that when you pre-ordered your contract terms stated the same as the rest of us.

Second even if they did try and charge you the full amount without confirming if you wished to proceed, you can return it for a full refund (less shipping) under the EU distance selling regulations.

    Either way I wouldn't worry.

To be honest I suspect some people are spreading false rumours to try and scare people out of pre-orders and give themselves a better shot.

    Hi

this is not false. I am the person that this relates to. I have the Credit card statement, to prove they took the full amount. I have the email stating that they would NOT charge until they re-confirm, but it means nothing.

I rang Expansys, and they advised nothing I can do. - not much help.

Rang the Credit Card company, they said I gave them my CC details, this was approval for them to take the funds which they displayed on the site, regardless of what any email states.

Once the order was placed and the price was clearly visable, this is the price the CC approval is for.

I rang Expansys again, after I was in contact with the CC company, it was then they said I would have to refuse delivery of the Touchpad, tell DHL to return to sender, then when they get the item back in the warehouse, only then they will be able to refund the cost of the Touchpad, but I would lose the €15 delivery charge.

This is not a scare message to get people to cancel their order. I am just warning people, if you ordered it from their website, and the price was the original price when you ordered it, they are entitled to charge you this price, as you agreed to it on the payment page.

I'm out of pocket €15, and most of my day wasted ringing around to try to get this resolved.

They cancelled my reservation with no reason why, that doesn't seem like good service to me. Same also happened to one or two other posters on here.

How did you find out the your order was canceled ?

I turned up to collect it , I was first in the shop.

Did you see this when you ordered:

If so, mention this (and email it) to someone at your CC company.

I hope everyone is taking note of how these companies have screwed us (general public/Customers) over the last few days and i hope that most of you remember this when planning to buy things in future!

Be it Elara stringing people along (possible advertisement stunt), Argos not honoring reservations made or handing out the touchpads to staff members first, the whole thing has left a sour taste in my mouth!

To make it worse, i'd say alot of people jumping on the bandwagon did it to make money out of this and the people who just wanted a bargain in these hard times are the ones to lose out as per usual..

I may have wasted the last few days and not got one but i'll remember this treatment when shopping in future..

From Expansys after inquiring about my pre-order:
Please note that the Touchpad has been put back as on preorder as we are currently out of stock.
We currently do not have any information regarding the price or release date.
If you already placed a pre-order please note that the price will then be updated on your order and you will receive an email asking you to confirm your pre-order before any shipment.
If too much is charged, you would then have a refund of the difference
As soon as HP comes back to us, we will of course inform you via email

    Looks promising tbf.

I have no problem at all with staff getting first dibs on these things (although not at the expense of people with reservations for argos). They work crap jobs for crap wages, why shouldn't they get the occasional perk?

Well, just got home with my 32gb Touchpad from Argos in Swords Pavilion. Reservation, which was made lastnight, was until the end of today. Price was €145.

Agreed. There's only been about 2 or 3 actual helpful posts in the last 30 pages I reckon.

Would be great if people just stopped posting random crap until there's something of benefit. And yes, I'm bitter. :)

I just emailed Argos to ask them to explain why staff are taking reserved orders.
Interesting to see what they have to say.

not really, it's their stock, they can do what they want with it.

Right Argos rang me back and after explaining the validity of my order to them they informed me that there are TouchPads in stock and all are allocated to reservation numbers, my unit will arrive in store tomorrow morning. So anyone that has a confirmed reservation from Argos should get it filled. If they don't fill your order then a staff member has taken your unit for themselves. When I was on the phone to them I could head the rep tell someone that the call was about the TouchPads and he followed that up with "no it's a customer".

It's a disgrace what's going on in there.

Of course they can, but if they are cancelling customers reservations to sell to staff instead that would be very poor customer service. If that is what's going on it's very fair to complain about it IMO.

Why? Who cares? What's that got to do with the Bargain Alert?

Just got the following mail from Expansys...

    "Hello,

for the moment we do not know the price as our suppliers don’t offer it at discount prices at least not at this time so your order is on hold till we will have the confirmation.

You card has not been charged but the money has been reserved according the value of the order.

we are in talks with suppliers right now but some far we got no reply or confirmation about this from them or HP directly if they will honour this rebate.

If this is confirmed, we will contact all backorders and let them know the new price as soon as we will have confirmed information and asked them to RE-confirm the orders before shipping them out. "

looks promising if HP confirm the price drop.

Which Argos did you go to?

Doesn't matter now, it was a completely flukey reservation and there won't be any more.

(Begins with 'Kil' and ends with 'Kenny').

This 'Argos staff taking stock for themselves' rumour seems to have started right here on this thread, and is being exacerbated by the addition of 'I heard that too' comments.
