Just got the Galaga DX trial on XBLA. Very fun, VERY addictive!

There's something about hitting the sweet spot and clearing waves that is utterly satisfying.

Great game. Great XBLA makeover. Well worth the 800 MP.

It's a fun game alright, there dows be so much happening on screen that it's difficult to take it all in.
Looking forward to the release on 3DS of Galaga Legions as that console is crying out for some playable games

Started playing Dragon Quest 1 last night, the game that started it all. I have to say, for some reason I've really been enjoying these old grindy RPGs. DQ1 is a bit weird since you've only got the one character and the game is quite non-linear. The graphics are also very basic, even in the SNES remake I'm playing on. However I'm really digging the music and monster design.

Played a spot of Space Invaders on my GB followed by my Super Gameboy'd Snes!
    It's awesome!!!!

Ok, it's still Space Invaders but to squish all that content onto a GB cart, it's more Ninty miracles I tell ya!
And no Digital Anal Eclipse logos anywhere!

God I hate digital eclipse and backbone entertainment. They always have crap emulation and add stuff that's not needed. I wish more publishers would let M2 handle their rereleases.

I have started Earthbound. Enjoying it thoroughly so far, although given the hype I expect my head to actually explode from the awesome at some point.

Bring back the Scratch n'sniff ads for Earthbound I remember in my regular copy of EGM, imported for me back in the day by Easons, well when I say for me I mean for everyone.
No not everyone read the one imported copy, they would bring in loads.... feck it you know what I mean.
Never liked Gamepro in the day, like it even less now.
I also got Boot every month as well as the occasional US PcGamer.

Getting my bad ass Ninja on all day yesterday with a Tenchu marathon.
I've had tenchu games for ages but alas they were at tthe bottom of the pile so I've neglected them for years until yesterday.
Have to say that I really enjoyed playing them, I didn't realise that they were so good or I'd have played them ages ago.

Finally beat that feckin' boss in Zelda LTP, what a triumph! Now to finally beat the game!
Next to finish, The Minish Cap, a beautiful game indeed.

You do realise that there is a long long way to go after beating that boss:pac:

Minish cap is a brilliant game very underrated but a very involving game all the same

I picked up the Megadrive collection for the 360 recently. Been working my way through the entire Phantasy Star saga, managed to finish 1 and 2 but 3 is hard going, determined to get there though!

Ugh, those cursed mushroom spores in Earthbound! Although the first time a healer buys one off you is very chuckle-worthy.

Could never understand the attraction of the Phantasy Star series, have the CD version for the Mega CD somewhere, any good?

Well the thing is you had to have played them at the time. Phantasy Star 1 is archaic and grind heavy today but you have to realise that the game came out a week before the first final fantasy and is way better and leagues ahead of it. The enemies are animated, the graphics are amazing and give most megadrive games a run for their money despite being on a master system, and overall it's a much deeper game in story and play mechanics than Final Fantasy or Dragon Quest. It's also one of the first games with a strong female lead. It's rather non-linear with tonnes of subquests. It's also got anime style cutscenes. It was a game way ahead of it's time.

Phantasy Star 2 was way ahead of it's time similarly. The gameplay was quite strategic since each party member was unique so the type of party you choose was important to progressing. Again the story was far ahead of anything that had come before and had one of the first cases of playable characters dying, well before Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy.

Phantasy Star 3 is a bit of a black sheep since it wasn't developed by the phantasy star team but it did have the interesting generations mechanic where you continued the game as your offspring at certain points.

Phantasy Star 4 again was way ahead of it's time. In terms of storyline it absolutely blows the FF series out of the water and only Dragon Quest 5 at the time was anywhere close. The battle system was much improved and it's really good even today. Also the story was presented with manga style comic cutscenes that look amazing. Also this game isn't afraid to kill off characters in the story and they way it did it at one point was far more moving than when Square copied it for Aeris in FFVII.

The games in ther series have aged pretty badly and PS2 in particular is near impossible without a faq. The exception is Phantasy Star 4 which is still one of the greatest RPGs ever made and well worth playing.
