Hey cho aniki despite the visuals is a pretty damn good series of shooters, although I heard the PSP game is gash.

I suppose when you compare it to other spunk shooters it stands up well.
It's a small group of games though to be fair :D

Am I allowed to say Spunk here?

Probably not the best choice of words, for many reasons, one of which is the game features male sexual organs rather than the female.

No one says gash anymore though :P

In what context do they not say "gash"?
In the "this is rubbish" context or, well, the other one?

I agree. Fantastic game it is. Not played the PSP one though. Have you seen the Cho Aniki strategy guide book? It looks like a top shelf mag!

I'm still playing Neo Turf Masters. I love this little Neo Geo Pocket, just a shame the screen isn't lit. I have a great book light for my Kindle though so I'm using that which really helps the display out.

They say it in scotland. It's an after effect of watching consolevania.

For some reason, I thought the Boss Battle mode was cut from the PS2 version of Capcom vs SNK 2, lo and behold, it wasn't. I've been getting my arse kicked every which way to Sunday, it's been awesome.

I just beat Dragon Quest 1. I'm actually surprised that the game is still so playable and fun. There's not a lot of grinding which helps and definitely not as much as Final Fantasy and Phantasy Star 1 and 2 which are total grindfests. I much prefer DQ1 to FF1 but I think Phantasy Star 1 is just a little better. Not sure if I'll go on to Dragon Quest 2 just yet and try and finish catherine and Rondo of Blood first.

Aw now I see why, the SNES version is improved massively over the original NES release which has some really annoying features it seems.

You playing the Turbo Grfx version of Rondo or the PSP remake?

PSP remake, although I'm enjoying the emulated version on more than the 3D remake.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,106 ✭✭✭✭chopperbyrne

I think the remake is harder.

Doesn't quite feel as responsive and some things kind of blend into the background and are hard to react to, unlike the old bright sprites.

Yeah found that as well, the screen blurring is pretty bad and noticeable on the 3D game. Also just don't like the 3D visuals as much, the 2D game is some much more colourful and detailed.

Quality games them. Started to put in some time with Raiden via mame, those fooking tanks always nab me with a stray bullet. Great game though, love the soundtrack.

Love my Raiden Project on the PS, as great as the first one is, the second one is brilliant, love the cheap pink laser, homing is good!

    :pac:

You were right by the way, the 3 way type bullets make things a good bit "easier" than the laser.

The laser whip is a bit schizoid in what it lands on. It's fun, but I tend to find you get lost in the insanity of it all and take hits from those tanks. It's hard to see their shots with it whipping all over the place!

/edit - meant to say, Neo Geo pocket finally arrived. Had a bit of a play through Sonic on it last night. Nice game. I'm really impressed by the umpfh that console has. Such a shame it ended prematurely.

I just can't use any other weapon other than the toothpaste laser. It's way too awesome not to use it.

I always thought the blue straight laser on maximum power looked more like toothpaste than the purple one.

I suppose it depends if you apply your toothpaste in a straight line or like to go bendy. Bendy is a bit too fruity for my liking.

The conversations that come up on this forum are gas. :pac:

Pyong, whatever you're doing, you're doing it wrong if you've got pink wee. ;)

I thought the blue laser was the better weapon but the spread on the 3-way is much more helpful (Raiden I here).

Spread guns in general allow you to focus more on dodging enemy bullets. I'd say if you're trying to 1cc the game then just stick with that one on max power as much as you can.

It's a really ****ty gun while you're trying to build it up though! Nothing worse than dying and having to start with it all over again.

God damn it, I really want to play Raiden now :D

Spread guns and homing guns are for pussies. It's why I only use the lightsabre in Gunstar Heroes! Best weapon in the game no matter what the homing flamethrower losers tell you.

Being able to 1cc Raiden with the spread laser is better than not being able to 1cc it at all :p

That's the thing. One bullet and you're back to square one and scrambling to get the lose power ups before you get mashed. Really liking the game, can't get enough time to put into it but it's a great old school kick yer balls type of game. Looks and sounds gorgeous on a cab too.

I pumped so much money into Raiden as a teenager.

Spread Gun with Missiles was the preferred combination.

Let a second player pick Laser and Rockets.

I downloaded those free NES games onto my 3DS yesterday and have tried a few of them out.

Its funny how big a jump there was from 8 to 16-bit. A lot of 8-bit games aren't all that great these days. Even with nostalgia, they can be quite bad.

Luckily, the games offered are for the most part here are very good. The masterpiece that is Super Mario Bros. is every bit as good as we all remember. Its a lovely port as it plays smoothly and looks great on the 3DS's top screen. It cannot be faulted, and is great for a big long session or a quick blast.

I stuck on Metroid as well this afternoon and found myself playing for longer than expected. You can't save on these games I think as they aren't the full and final versions being offered by Nintendo, but I enjoyed my gameplay anyway. It looks good and is fun, with excellent controls, though the port could be a little smoother. Zero Mission, its handheld remake, is one of my favourite games of all time, and easily my favourite in the entire series so far. Its far better than the original, but Metroid on the NES gives a good account for itself on the 3DS never the less.

I stuck on Mario & Yoshi next. Its sh1t.

Lastly I gave Ice Climber a whirl. My only prior Ice-climbing experience was controlling the two characters together in Smash Bros Melee on the GameCube. Well, sadly, the game just doesn't play or control too well on the 3DS. Its imprecise and inaccurate unfortunately. I will give it another shot, but I'm not holding out much hope for it.

Will get through the others over the next few days.

Other than those I haven't been playing much really, nor buying anything either - no bad thing really as I've bought and played through a stupid amount of games recently.
