    BJJ - 2 hours 15 minutes

    TJ ran us thru some judo stuff tonight and I REALLY enjoyed it. First up was Kouchi Gari. Took about half an hour for it to click, but once it did i started to hit it with some success.

    Ran thru drop seoi nage, I definitely wasn't stepping thru enough with it, but every now and again I'd get one crisply.

    Next was drop seoi nage followed with kouchi gari if he steps out. Got shown and follow up so that when he steps out of kouchi gari, your lapel grip goes to the back of the guys thigh, you hook they're leg and push forward to finish.

    Saw a cool drop seoi nage variation where you step outside instead of in, rotate all the way around and transition to a double leg from the side squeezing the knees together.

    Asked TJ about o soto gari and he showed it to me (step in line with sleeve side foot, deep collar grip, pull on the sleeve to get them moving back over their foot, crowbar with collar arm to increase that effect, lapel side foot comes thru and sweeps). I like it.

    I REALLY enjoyed today. I'd love to find somewhere local that does Judo on Tuesday or Thursday nights. I'm sure I could grab someone to do a bit of drilling in Kyuzo too. Would like to be more confident standing up anyway...

    That was pretty tough. I'd like to be able to go 10 to 1 and all the way back up. That'd be cool. First step's going 1 to 10, did 1 to 8 without much hassle recently.

    MONDAY

    2.15km run - 10 minutes 33 seconds
    HRs: Max - 179, Average: 163

    Whoop - sub 5 minute km pace. Pretty sh*t but it's something I've been looking for for a while. Gonna run 2km every morning before cracking into study for the next month just because I want to get my body used to higher mileage so I can go for longer runs going forward.

    Off to climb the sugar loaf now!

    EDIT: My gf lasted about 25 minutes on the way up before she broke. Came down in about 15. Average heart rate - 126bpm

    BJJ - 90 minutes

    -hour long beginners class with coach grant doing thru gwuard passing, i seem to have better success going same side hand to hip and knee in ass
    -did a few rounds of drilling passes
    -did a few rounds of active resistance looking to sweep or get passed
    -5x 5 minute rolls
    -some cool z-guard to spider guard with dave and rohan because I'm always getting passed from that position and never know what to do

    Good session tonight. There's a good few new guys around at the moment which is giving me a chance to try some of the newer stuff I've been working on (open guard etc) before moving up to try it on guys at my level and better. I could probably just use my favourite sweeps/passes all day on the guys with less experience than me but it seems like a bit of a waste when I've newer stuff I want to learn.

    BJJ - 3 hours

    MORNING - 1 hours
    -great 60 minute roll with Grant
    -worked on some cross collar set ups and was shown a nice arm bar set up which I pulled off later in the evening rolling

    EVENING - 2 hours
    -coach Neil showed us some half guard passes
    -emphasis on using cross face, shoulder, and head to control opponents posture
    -use like a semi butterfly hook to pin leg and take offline with shouldre pressure to get guard open
    -miss the underhook, use far side lapel
    -good roll afterwards, finished a nice americana but still really struggling with cross collar chokes

    My hands are fried, gonna be interesting to see what sorta state I'm in tomorrow. 2,700 kcals in today. Gonna wait for a week of recording intake and average out to see what's happened.

    MORNING
    -Lucas showed us some S-mount stuff
    -Get the arms up way over head, right knee under shoulder, left foot under shoulder/neck sitting on their chest/your heel and squeeze knees together
    -arm bar or kimura option available
    -rolled for 3x 5 minute rounds with Grant, Neil and Lucas

    EVENING
    -side control escapes w/ Grant
    -ran back over Robert's thing of using the knee to protect the elbow and wiper to prevent crossface to avoid getting caught in the first place
    -if caught - frame hip and neck, bridge in and flop the hips back to create space to get the knee in
    -did some drilling on that
    -several rounds of rolling

    Tonight was good. I was fairly tired and beat up so it was nice to roll against some guys who I'd have more experience than and was free to work on stuff I wanted to try rather than constantly trying to protect myself from getting smashed. That being said I was caught in a very nice guillotine!!

    Did some of the s-mount stuff we worked on in the morning during tonights roll, was reasonably effective, been thinking about triangles more an even managed to catch a few today. Also forgot to say I managed to pull off the drysdale cartwheel pass from turtle yesterday- srsly chuffed about that one!!

    About 2,450kcals in today, 205g protein, 180g carbs, 92g fat. It's weird that in my head that sounds too high given my level of training. I'm an idiot.

    FRIDAY - 30 minutes

    I can't call it a full session... Myself, Rowan and Grant just played aroudn with some stuff. I kept working on arm bars from guard

    SATURDAY - 60 minutes

    Great turn out... me and Grant just rolled for a while and ran thru some random stuff as we hit it. Slight improvements on arm bar and cross collar chokes. Will continue to work on them.

    Saw a really cool triangle transition from hip bump sweep on a Ryan Hall clip that I tried a few times and it seems like it could work..... if I was in any way decent...

    SUNDAY

    MORNING
    -fairly intense session this morning with lots of conditioning drills to warm up, tough but I liked it
    -5 of us training and did 20 minute guard passing, 2 out, 1 waiting. Horrible.

    The guard passing was with Neil, Lucaz, Barry and Grant so a really high standard and lads where I had to work really hard. Had a decent time of it and tried to give as good as I got. Certainly tried to be more active and not rest.

    EVENING
    -fairly intense warm up ala the morning session
    -butterfly guard passing... hand fight, hands to ankles and stand, pull the legs so the dude goes flat on his back, hip in, push the legs forwrad and sit on his hamstrings like they're a seat, pick a side from there and get your knee to the mat, underhook the far side
    -30/45 (?) minute guard passing drills from there... 3 out, 5 waiting
    -cool down

    Strange session tonight. Was really on form at the start. Managing to score the first point consistently on a lot of my rolls, went 3 for 3 at least 3 times, maybe 4. And then the wheels fell off and I could just do f*ck all and was getting served consistently. Think it was fatigue and overthinking. Bleurgh!!

    No problem. Any time you want abstract words of encouragement, you come to me. You're not used to double sessions that's why you fell apart. You recover somewhat but the branium just can't.

    MORNING
    -drilled double under pass today, get combat base, hands to hips, stack, hand to opposite collar, switch hips and lead with head to the mat
    -did some first point guard passing after

    Morning session was good. I wasn't really rocking the double under pass too well at all tbh. Had a good time on the first point guard passing tho. Was doing decently well at retaining guard and sweeping/submitting from there. Hit a nice cross collar, couple of good scissor sweeps and that half guard almost past sweep Robert showed at his seminar

    EVENING
    -good tough warm up tonight
    -mount escapes w/ Neil... block the hip, big shrimp as many times as it takes, OR block hip, small shrimp, far side leg comes over to hook the mounted dudes leg and restore half gwuard.. I made some mess of this OR if he hugs the head, lock the arm and bridge hard to sweep
    -3 out, 3 waiting from mount trying to escape while the other guy tries to hold position

    Pretty disappointed in the mount stuff tonight. I just wasn't getting it at all. I think my mistake wasn't shrimping big enough and like trying to slide thru their legs.

    I'll do a summary of the last weeks eating tomorrow.

    EDIT: I want to start pushing more. I've gotten quite lazy recently in positions and I'm not aggressively pursuing point. I want to fix that and go at a harder intensity all the time. I got sick in my mouth on Monday morning, felt it again this morning and want to keep pushing that intensity.

    MORNING
    -Barry showed us some stuff on standing to break guard - wrist control, step deep to that side, hide the other leg back to prevent schoolboy sweep, break guard by pushing on inside of knee
    -1 minute in closed guard, 1 minute passing with 3 partners
    -did some first point rounds from closed guard

    Walked out of the gym not feeling great about my performance but then thought about it and realised while I wasn't finishing stuff, I was getting some nice set ups. Got a decent cross collar set up and shrimp my hips out like Grant did to me when he had me but couldn't finish, started to experiment with loop chokes, looked for a few different sweeps and managed to set up a nice arm bar attempt that I ended up sweeping with

    EVENING
    -Easy enough warm up tonight
    -Few bodyweight conditioning drills
    -Worked on passing z-gwuard -> use top hand to grab gi at shoulder and form like an underhook style pressure by closing your elbow, sleeve control with the other hand, get the knee back to prevent them getting near it, try to get thru and up on the leg in z-guard and use elbow and shoulder to open from there, shin cut, pass
    -First point rolled from z-guard
    -WHIPPINGS (Andy, Finlan, Dave, Rowan)

    Dunno about tonight... I wasn't really passing too well with what Barry was showing us. Probably need to just work it a bit more to understand the pressures etc. I'm starting to use deep collar grips a bit well to break posture and control, but am having a 'mare trying to finish. Nothing crazy brilliant to note from that session other than the scissors to knee push sweep I hit on top. Was very happy with that because it kinda got me thinking I was seeing transitions (albeit really obvious ones) and was starting to understand the importance of disrupting base and sweeping to where they can't re-base. Hit a few kimuras from half guard butt flop, not too sure of the technical quality of that tho.

    The whippings were brutal. I feel kinda bad because I really laid into the guys. I've no doubt that when the time comes, the favour will be repaid.

    Thursday

    BJJ - 2.5 hours

    MORNING
    -really light flow roll w/ Grant, we were both absolutely b*lloxed so took it mega easy
    -worked a bit on my cross collar and some omoplata set ups from a missed cross collar choke, be interesting to see how practical it is during a live roll, tried it once in the evening session and got it
    -I hate when someone buttflops in my guard

    EVENING
    -guard passing w/ Barry (knee and hip grip, post w/ head tripod style, punch the knee thru and come to side control, if snagged, bit ballet step up and back to side control, use as much pressure as possible)
    -did a few drills from there and then some light rolls
    -worked cross collar set up a bit more, I'm reaching too near the shoulder and not enough towards the centre line of his body, or I can go deep get my arm pit to his head and grab his belt
    -triangle - similar to scissor sweep set up, but instead of getting my shin on their ribs/under their arm pit, use it to pin their leg to their chest and then shoot the triangle (option 2 is off a missed arm bar to stuff their arm thru, clear the elbow and force it from there)
    -good tip: shoulders, hips and knees in a straight line to prevent stacking

    The last couple of weeks of training have been really good for me. I've gotten some great opportunities to drill stuff in the morning and before class, and seem to be just getting the concepts of some positions down and see how stuff flows together a bit better. The actual application of a lot of it still alludes me, but at least I'm seeing stuff now. No doubt there's many levels of depth I'm missing in each position over what I'm seeing, but I feel I know substantially more now than I did at the start of the month.

    ...and as y'all can probably tell, I haven't bothered going for any runs or playing with KBs cos I'm taking as much advantage of this additional rolling time as possible and I just don't have the energy or time for any additional work!!

    BJJ - 1.5 hours
    -Ran thru a quick Z-guard pass... grab both knees, pull up, move to have guard, underhook far side, overhook near arm and pin with chest, post head to mat, kick leg off and go to scarf
    -Think we did 45 minutes of guard passing after that, 2 out, 3 waiting
    -Drilled some batmans

    The first point roll ended up being good. I'd a complete f*cking 'mare at the start. Was getting my ass handed to me all over the place but as people began to get fatigued I started to get more and more. All the arm bar drilling is starting to pay off, got 2 of them again tonight, neither were pretty but I'm kind of happier to get them that way. First one I had to bridge up like Barry was talking about last night to prevent the stack, second I had to roll thru and finish face down. Pulled a couple of unorthodox sweeps which I got because I'm starting to understand the concept of basing a bit better and realising when someone has over committed and doesn't have anyway of basing back to where I want to sent them.

    A frustrating session turned good.

    -I wish I could remember what we did... I'm drawing a blank, have had a busy weekend and all the BJJ's kinda run into one now
    -I do want to work on side control stuff, like north-south chokes, head and arm chokes and kimura from their too
    -My passing is still awful, it kinda his me this week, but ever element of my passing game, except from maybe half guard, is pathetic

    Still tho, 14 hours on the mats this week - OSSSSSS

    MORNING
    -spend aaaaaages going over side control stuff
    -worked thru cross facing with the gi, using the gi to set up a brabo choke, moving to north south from there and a couple of kimura set ups too
    -did some resisted drilling with rob and then some light rolls
    -caught a few nice cross collars and arm bar from guard, and a couple of mounted cross collar chokes too, nice session

    EVENING
    -good long warm up with 10 minute conditioning block too
    -shin cut pass, right leg in, cuts across, right arm underhooks opposite side head goes to mat and under his to twist the **** outta him and pass to side control
    -did some resisted drilling from the underhooked position, the foot in the middle, and finally from full pass

    Tonight was good. Wasn't passing all that well, but I was pulling back guard from bad positions and being active from their decently. Hit the drysdale sweep from when the guy shin cuts and is almost past well a couple of times, managed to take someones back after being butt flopped from half guard and even finish a guillotine. Starting to apply some of the stuff I've been working on recently - yay :)
