The only good thing about declining bodyweight is that it makes relative strength easier to maintain!!

    BJJ - 3.5 hours

    MORNING
-spend aaaaaages going over side control stuff
-worked thru cross facing with the gi, using the gi to set up a brabo choke, moving to north south from there and a couple of kimura set ups too
-did some resisted drilling with rob and then some light rolls
-caught a few nice cross collars and arm bar from guard, and a couple of mounted cross collar chokes too, nice session

You forgot to mention the cartwheel escape from turtle.

Ha that's not really fair since I explicitly told you to just sit there and let me do it!!! Unless you were letting me do all the other stuff too :(

If I was gonna talk about that cartwheel escape I'd have to call it "giving rob my back by f*cking up a fancy escape"?

    <<Rolling, rolling, rolling...>>

    Tuesday

    BJJ - 1.5 hours
-I'm a complete idiot - can't for the life of me remember what I did, probably involved guard passing tho

    Wedneday

    BJJ - 2.5 hours

    MORNING
-worked the 3 stage half guard pass, from when you have the underhook and you flatten him out and lie on his arm, to twisting when he gets the underhook, to switching and back stepping if he underhooks and posts to his elbow
-rolled for a bit and stunk something fierce, and got my nose busted open by Grant too, the prick.

    EVENING
    -easy enough warm up
-ran back over the first step of the 3 stage half guard pass
-did 30 minutes of guard passing, which wasn't too bad
-15 minute Q&A - asked about passing full guard and the advice was just to go 2 on 1 and get standing as quick as possible, bleurgh

Tonight was better than this morning anyway. Still stunk royally and was getting passed all over the place, but was doing a few things as well. My arm bar continues to improve, I still can't get a good position while mounted and studying is wrecking my head.

    <<Turn the lights out now...>>

    Thursday

    BJJ - 90 minutes
    -back attacks from turtle
-side ride gluing hip on hip, elbow on far side hip with near side lapel grip and knees off match
-switch legs to block off his movement as you twist, pull and butt scoot back to take his back
-seat belt grip, take to the attack hand side, feed collar if necessary, motorcycle kick to get back on elbow if ya have to
-if caught in turtle, tuck the elbows tighter to prevent arm bar attack, be more active, threaten his arm

    Friday

    MORNING
Today I learned how to do a headstand and started to get some handstands down as well. Not the most productive of study days thus far. I hate audit.

    EVENING

    BJJ - 90 minute suckfest
-drilled the 3 point half guard pass again, from when you have the underhook, to when he has it, to when he has it and posts on his elbow. I REALLY need to work on this and start to get better
-picked a good tip on clearing the knee shield, smash it down, elbow in and clear (or sprawl)
-the rest of the session was a completely horrific mindf*ck with ended up with a big gash on my finger that's stinging like a motherf*cker and a self wrist lock as I was swept from half guard which resulted in about 110kg falling primarily on my flexed wrist, I have it strapped and taped now but it hurts like a mothertrucker

    Horrible session.

I think the only reason I've been surviving the last couple of weeks training load is because of how well I've been eating. Even tho I've been averaging 2,400 - 2,700kcals daily, I've been sure to hit at least 180g of protein every single day during that period, aiming for 200+ most days. I've had 3/4 cheat days in that time period where I've done nothing but ensure adequate protein, and let everything else fall wherever it lands.

Even tho I'm not lifting, I'm convinced that the protein levels are having a massive positive impact on my recovery levels. Waist is down below 33 inches again, and abs are starting to come back too.

<<You got me right where you wanted me...>>

    The Last Few Days

Lots of headstands, handstands and handstand push ups. I can do 8 now.

    Wednesday

    BJJ - 2 hours

-warm up comprising mostly of handstands and HSPUs
-ran thru some first point guard passing rolls, pulled one of the sweeps Drsydale showed when he was over nicely, few hip bumps, think I caught an armbar too, and did a sweet little step over the Barry showed us this month
-tekkers was based off a question I asked, what to do from the half guard step over when a butterly hook's in...
    1) respect it
    2) clear it
    3) pass
-clearing = remove the underhook and twist so you've him pinned by far side delt, elbow joint to bottom of their shin and grab pants near ass effectively hugging it, flatten let, hip away and pass
-rolled like 6 or 7x 5 minute rounds, they felt really short... Hit some really nice stuff in them.

Tonight was f*cking class. I dunno whether everyone else just wasn't on form, or were going easy, or if I just had a good night. It's the first time I've rolled in the last 3 weeks or so fully rested and fed against guys who wouldn't know my game inside out so it game me a chance to set up and work on some of the stuff I'd been learning while properly "live".

Got a few arm bars just thru creating better angles and working from open guard back to closed after extending the guy a bit. Had a really nice series where I passed, got caught wit the hook we'd just learned to cleared, got it off and passed to side, dude turtled, I took his back with the back take from last week's beginner class, tried to collar choke, lost it, went to bow and arrow, lost it, went to mount, then s-mount, caught the arm bar set up, worked it for a bit, rolled thru and eventually ended up off to the side in a good position to finish, he was in them iddle of escaping when the cage got in the way and the round went off, but I was super happy with how it all flowed together.

I need to stop trying to be flashy with the roll under sweep from that half guard escape 50:50 position, and just run him over if I've the advantage.

And that "handshake" sweep from half guard where I've an underhook and he whizzers... just grab thru to the foot, stay tight, slowly work under him, get him onto me and sweep.

Crazy session. Actually felt like I knew what I was doing. Huge chance I'll go in tomorrow and be like a fish outta water again.

EDIT: and the spider guard type transition back into full guard from the knee shield when the guy tries to pass his hands between your leg and mash your knees together and you grab his sleeve pull thru, take sleeve grips and go flat to your back so you've effectively got your leg wrapped around one arm and your feet in the bicep of his other - whoever showed me that (Dave of Rohan?!) is a hero and i love them.

    <<Party People...>>

    Strength

    Thrusters:
    40kg 2x3
    50kg x3
    60kg x3
    70kg x2
    80kg x1
    90kg x1
    95kg x1
    100kg x1

    Cleans:
    40kg 2x3
    60kg x3
    70kg x3
    80kg x3
    90kg x1
    100kg x1
    110kg x1
    115kg x1
    120kg x1

    Chins:
    bodyweight 2x5
    +10kg x5
    +15kg x5
    +20kg x5

    Incline DB Press (30deg):
    20kg x15
    25kg x12
    30kg x9
    35kg x6
    37.5kg x4

    Shoulder prehab stuff....

I'm signed up to do the CF Level 1 cert in Belfast on 15/16 October so I figured I better at least be in some shape going up to it, so time to start lifting again.

I've always like thrusters done heavy, just a good solid whole body movement. So I'm gonna start trying to work them again. PR was 110kg when I was like 100kg back last October or something so I'm amazed they're still so high.

I've cleaned 1x this year (january), PC'd maybe 4-5x (may-june) so I'm incredibly happy out with a 120kg clean. Pretty f*cking surprised too since my strength isn't all that, but will definitely take it!!

Chins were good, I knew they'd be ok since I'm down in weight and my grip strength is up. Lots more there.

Incline DB was grand, gonna keep the 15....4 rep scheme and just try to get to the 50's for 4 as a starting point.

Basic plan is to train 3x a week, not sure how well that's gonna work but I'm hoping.... And do the following each day:

Thrusters - load and intensity varied
Cleans - load and intensity varied
Chest exercise - will probably have incline DBs and regular bench on rotation
Pull ups/chins - weighted or high rep
    Bicep/tricep super set

    <<Let me introduce you...>>

    Last Week:
    BJJ - 90 minutes
    -quick exam break session

    Today:
    BJJ - 90 minutes
    -single legs and switch
-rounds of 2 minute on, 1 minute off - that sucked

Pretty wiped after that session and bloody starving now. Goodnight boards, being in Paris for the last 5 days has killed my addiction.

Haha yeah maybe so. Might even get to the point where I take another crack at a sub 3 Fran. That's a monkey on my back that ain't going nowhere. My base level of aerobic and anerobic conditioning is far higher than it was last time I tried it, my strength is down, but not by much at all, bodyweight is down too so if I can maybe learn how to kip or just get my pull ups better, it might be doable. Certainly be worth doing cos it's something that's on my bucket list.

Yup as Molly said - you're missing the 20s. If you look on the inside you can see the blue writing on the plates.

Best clean's only 130kg. Power cleaned 130kg at the height of my short lived weightlifting career but never full cleaned higher.

Never checked that site out. I see people linking to it all the time but never bothered looking. I'll have a look later.

Most of the stuff I've been watching on it has been Sub101 and 10th Planet techniques.

    <<What goes around...>>

    THURSDAY

    BJJ - 90 minutes
    -some kneehab stuff
-lots of rounds with Grant and Barry, very tough session

    SATURDAY

    60kg x3
    70kg x3
    80kg x1
    90kg x1

    100kg 3x3

    Bench:
    60kg x15
    67kg x12
    75kg x9
    82kg x6
    90kg x4

    Chins:
    BW x15
    +10kg x7
    +20kg x4

    BJJ - 60 minutes
-40 minutes of conditioning to warm up, average HR = 140bpm
-few rounds and some technical drilling
-need to develop a game plan for grapplepalooza....

Lifting this morning was alright. Reps with thrusters are substantially harder than just doing singles apparently. I need to decide how to progress them. I'm thnking of just doing them 2-3x per week for the next 4-5 weeks and adding 2kg a session.

Cleans were more like a PC into front squat today. First couple of sets were brutal. Wasn't hitting full extension and was relying on the shrug to the get the bar up. Sorta fixed it on the last set, a bit (see video). I'm happy enough with them - I'm hitting alright positions so it's a good starting point.

Benching was grand. +5 to everything next time.

Chins were tough... probably should get more volume in. Will probably do a high rep day, and two sessions of varying intensity lower rep.

    <<Oh oh oh oh oh....>>

    Push Press:
    50kg x3
    60kg x3
    70kg x3
    80kg x3
    90kg x2 - bleurgh

    Power Cleans:
    50kg x3
    70kg x3
    90kg x1
    100kg x1
    105kg x1
    110kg x1
    100kg 5x2

    Incline DB Press:
    22.5kg x15
    27.5kg x12
    32.5kg x9
    37.5kg x6
    40kg x4

    Pull Ups:
    BW 5x5

    Kipping Pull Ups:
    BX 3x10

Teaching the finer points of bench press tekkers:
    45 minutes

Grand little session. The push press volume was pretty low - that was stupid of me. The bar got in front of me on the 90's so I missed the third - bleurgh.

Power cleans were a bit much until about the 4th set of 2 with 100kg. Elbows were a bit sloppy and extension wasn't brilliant either.

THe incline DBs were fine. Might try and go up another dumbbell next time, or possibly go up a DB on each until the sets of 6 and 4 and use 40kg for both.

Pull ups were to work on "active shoulders" and keeping thm retracted to protect my shoulder. The kips were alright, I don't think my shoulder is going to deal with them unless Ireally get a handle on the whole active shoulder thing.

Played about with a few butterfly kips as well - I like them more since your chest doesn't really break thru the plane of the bar, thus there's less stress on the shoulder.

    <<Your insecurity gets me thru....>>

    BJJ - 90 minutes
    -single legs with TJ
    1) normal single leg set grab from collar tie, push him away so he steps in, then go for the leg
    2) use wrist/neck control to break them forward, change levels and take a leg
    3) few different finishes outside of the normal backwards down the spiral staircase, knee tap, pull into you and knee tap, elevate the leg if it goes outside, few leg sweeps too
-Amanda FUBAR'd my back during the live drilling (and by Amanda I mean I decided to change levels by bending over rather than lunging in and tweaked something as a result)

Sat out the rest of the session, but then decided to try a few strict ring muscle ups since I watched instructionals on the CFJ over the weekend. Took like 6/7 goes before I got a tough one, then within 2/3 more goes I was hitting them really smooth and really easy. I'll get vids of it at some point, just to prove it and all that crap.

<<All that counts is here and now...>>

    Kipping Pull Ups:
    BW 5x5

    Reverse Hyper:
4/5 sets while I figured out an appropriate weight and how to make the strap work
    70kg 5x12

    Chins:
    BW +10kg 5x5

    Bench:
    67kg x15
    75kg x12
    82kg x9
    87kg x6
    92kg x4

    Pull Ups:
    BW 5x5

Side Plank w/ hand on medicine ball:
    3x20sec e/s

    Stir the pot:
    3 x20 clockwise + 20 counterclockwise

    Pull Ups:
    BW 5x5

    Bleurgh, mneh and pfft.

Did over 100 pull ups to try and figure out the whole "active shoulder" thing so I don't fall apart when kipping. Limited success with it.

The RH is amazing. Made me feel really nice after getting mauled in training yesterday.

Benching was pitiful. Finding the higher rep stuff pretty tough.

Potentially big news on the horizon. Stay tuned.
