This works a treat on motors ..let's see if it works here too

Came across this lovely little watch, unworn, old stock, handwind.

currently at €1.50 with 6 hours to go on the bay

Reason I'm not buying it ...it's only 31 mm diameter

and thus really only for ladies

Good idea for a thread. I think there used to be a bargain alert sticky on this forum, but perhaps it was removed for infrequency of posts.

The watch isn't my style either, but thanks for sharing the goodness, that's a cheap price!

It's a ship's chronometer ...yepp, one of those incredibly intricate and complicated mechanical timekeepers.

It's currently at only 200 Euro, listed in a strange category and ends on Thursday morning.

It could therefore potentially end up as the bargain of the century (these things range in price from about 1500 for a bad one to infinity and beyond)

The reason why I'm not buying this ...well I don't have a ship

(and no skills or watchmaker at hand to do it justice in maintenance)

Tempting alright, though actual chronometers have delicate escapements and can be delicate full stop. You'd need a friendly watchmaker.

The translated description makes interesting reading:

I guess that the clock was built so about 1965.

There are traces of hand on the clock. The dial has errors. Please see the pictures
Part of the description, are the exact state of the Clock.

The automatic movement is in motion immediately.

Are Kienzle a decent make? They're around 190 years but I can't seem to find much info online about them. Could that one be a fake?

Edit: It looks like their watches start at around €100 new so unlikely to be a fake etc..

A Swiss watch "Zephyr" from 1968 ...now old stock in perfect condition.
Unitas movement, handwind.

An interesting and different piece for small money. With handwind and no complications *you just wind and set it whenever you want to wear it and off you go.

I recently stumbled over Aristo watches. Made in Germany, some of them with ETA 2824-2 movements at a very good price (i.e. under 300 Euro).

Look at these three from their "Dessau" range for example ...on sale at 238.-- Euro ...not to be sniffed at, I think.

This is (of all things!) a miniature wall clock ...for a dollhouse !

Interesting (if useless) in itself ...but what really grabbed me is the fact that the box says "made in Germany", but the back says this:

Luckily there is also a big picture of the movement.

It has the grand total of one (1!!) Jewel :eek: ...one Jewel in a Chrono

I guess the plastic ring is in there so you can flood it with WD40 every now and then ...like when you want to use the chrono ...so it doesn't grind itself to death in 30 seconds.

Not everything that says "Swiss made" is quality ...give me a cheap Chinese chrono any day
