Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

The Post images of beauty has turned more so into a 'Look what images I can find on the net' thread. This is fine. I can see a need/want for mutual appreciation and drooling. However, I'd also be interested in a thread which is exclusively for the bikes of boardsies. The format could be thus -

Photo(s) of actual boardsie's bike (not images taken from the interweb of the same bike model)

    Details of the spec.

And perhaps a brief spiel on the bike if the boardsie is so inclined.

To avoid penis swinging contests the rules of the thread would be that there is no discussion allowed. Appreciation could only be shown by hitting the 'thanks' button.

I'll add my bikes to this later :D

    Mod note - 26/01/15
No general discussion at all in this thread - post your fleet, add a description and leave it there. If anyone has any questions PM the poster. If someone wants to chat about their bike(s) use the images of Beauty thread. This thread is for poostes who don't want any follow-up dicussion

My commuter / winter bike. Just got it a couple months ago to replace my old hybrid. Built it up myself - Planet X Aluminium frame w/ an Apex groupset, had a pair of PX Model B wheels from when I got my road bike...

    163066.jpg

My road bike, when it was new. Doing some work on it atm so no recent pics - it now has a white (turning yellow ) saddle, bartape, cables and tyres. Planet X Ti Pro Road w/ Ultegra 6700 and DT Swiss Mon Chasseral wheels.

Picked the PX Alu frame cos it's the same geometry as the Ti one, and since I know that fits hey why not :) Can't tell much of a difference between them other than ride quality, but I love em both! Next on the agenda - a touring bike (damn blorg, log got me dreaming) and maybe an MTB in case of snow (screw the turbo).

I'm glad that this appears to have been well received. I'd half expected it to be laughed off due to the existence of the PIoB thread.

    Anyhow, my Bikes

My MTB is pretty much stock Grand Canyon AL 6.0 although I've added Canyon Race SL Bull Bars:D, Wellgo CNC Platform B25 Sealed Bearing (Silver) pedals and I've swapped out the stock saddle and seatpost for a Pro-Lite Nanto saddle and an FSA SL-240 CSI SBS Carbon Seatpost. Again with my crappy Dunnes' luggage weighing device this comes in just under 11.5kg.

If I'm still in this country after this summer I'll be expecting to pick up a bargain Alu' road bike somewhere.

OK, here goes, in chronological order:

Trek 7.6 purchased October 2006 and used for commuting until June 2009. Total distance around 3,000km, and has recently been used as the dedicated Tacx turbo machine
Major achievement – completed my one and only WW200 in June 2009:

    IMG_1491.jpg

“Selina” (Scott CR1 Pro) purchased June 2009.
Used for commuting, with total distance around 2,000km
Placed in quarantine following crash in June 2009 which hospitalised me for 4 days. Still cannot remember what happened, but am informed she hurled me head first into the tarmac – it’s taken a long time to rebuilt my trust in her, although I am now inclined to let her out occasionally:

    TheFleet028.jpg?t=1308083565

“Beauty” (Focus Cayo) purchased July 2009, following my tiff with Selina
My favourite bike – have done over 13,000km commuting, sportives and racing – thinking about placing her into semi-retirement over the winter and building a new racing bike:

    TheFleet005.jpg?t=1308080861

“Gina” – Bianchi fixie bought in December 2009 with a view to doing some summer commuting. However racing got in the way, and she’s sat in the garage ever since
    Major achievements – none
    Minor achievements – none:

    bianchi2.jpg

“Terri” – Dolan Track Champion bike bought April 2010 – total distance around 500km
Been used on the tracks in Manchester, Sundrive and Kanturk. Looking for big things from her. Terri is a very smooth ride;):

    TheFleet017.jpg?t=1308081383

“Allie” (Giant Trinity Alliance) purchased August 2010 – total distance around 200km
Used in one TT last year, then I decided to tart her up with the new wheels over the winter.
Major achievement – delivering my one and only race victory earlier this year in a (handicapped) vets TT:

    TheFleet018.jpg?t=1308081425

And then there's the new Track Bike - The Red Devil

    028.jpg

    And finally, the Beast:

    188.jpg

And so for the obligatory group shot:

Heres my 'fleet'. Bought as a solution to the cost of travel in Dublin. I sold my full sus mountain bike to buy her & had a huge wad of cash left over.

Its a steel framed, hub geared bike. Perfect for knocking around the city. Its fast enough for whats required of it & super comfy. I've changed the handlebars to Noahs Arc, because portuer handlbars weren't practical due to the tight cockpit & the grip shifter. I also added the brown saddle and bar tape.

Eventually, I'll get a bespoke frame made (steel) and transfer the parts, I'll upgrade her gradually as parts fail or I feel the need. Alfine 11 hub will be on the cards at some stage...

I got her for the streets of Dublin - for which she is perfect. But she has recently moved with me to the Middle East, where it really isn't too cycling friendly.

    163130.jpg

    163131.jpg

    163132.jpg

    Steel Frame (tange tubing)
    Nexus 8 Hub Gears
    Alex 18 wheels
    Charge Spoon Saddle
    Soma Noahs Arc Handlebar
No quick release, everything is done by a no 15 or an allen key
Weight: yes, very much so (but not too important on a bike like this)...

At some stage I'll add another MTB to my fleet - I do miss the Dublin/Wicklow mountains...

My Kellys NEOS CRX cross bike, in recovery mode from the WW200. Changes from bike as bought: Brooks flyer saddle, Shimano M324 pedals, tires, bottle cage, lights, comp, and luggage section to the back. Comfy as you'd like for a long day out, and handy for light off road excursions but slow and heavy. Slow could be largely due to an engine fault. Bought as a first serious bike last year, because it looked like the bike that I was least likely to fall off of. Still love this bike which has served me well, but starting to lust after something sleeker, slimmer and sexier (aren't we all).

My main dandy horse. Now with matching tyres.
Late '70s Peugeot tourer. Basically the same bike as the day it came off the factory floor. Excellent all-rounder.

    5829903556_2f09d37982_b.jpg

New acquisition. Gitane tandem. '80s I think.
Had it out last night. Like learning to ride again. Both thrilling and terrifying having an engine with a mind of her own working away behind you. Speed comes out of nowhere.

I am not stuck on French/Blue bikes, it's just worked out that way.

My Commuter - Apollo CX-10. (bad pic I know.. Better one later)
A tough & light enough bike for getting around. Handles hopping up and down off kerbs like a pro.
Got it in 2007 - Have since changed the crank arm and a rim. I also did a custom paint job on it since the pic was taken.

    Argon 18 Gallium Pro (2009)

    2vkfh1k.jpg

    • Uprated to 2010 headset (OS bearings upper & lower)
    • Chorus groupset: standard chainset, 12-27 cassette, Chorus 2011 dual-dual brakeset, Super Record jockey wheels
    • Campagnolo Eurus wheelset w. Hutchinson Fusion 3 tubeless tyres, cafelatex sealant
    • 3T Arx Team stem & Ergosum Team bars
    • Fizik Arione CX saddle
    • Look Keo Carbon Ti Pedals
Brilliant fun to ride, very stiff (sometimes a bit too stiff) and responsive and the tubeless wheels help make a comfortable ride of things. Ferocious fun when pointed downhill, it goes like it's on rails! Both the Argon and Giant can sometimes be found rolling on a set of Cosmic SLs, 11-25 cassette when the wind and terrain is of the low variety.

    Giant TCR C (2008)

    162d12.jpg

    • Just upgraded to 2011 Campagnolo Chorus: Compact chainset, 11-25 cassette
    • Mavic Ksyrium SL wheelset, all ceramic bearings w. Michelin Pro 3
    • 3T Arx Pro stem & Ergosum Pro bars
    • FSA SLK seatpost
    • Fizik Arione CX Carbon saddle
    • Look Keo Carbon IM Pedals
The bike I use most often, it sees the worst weather and most training miles - while not as stiff as the Argon it gives a good return for energy put into it and over a long day in the saddle can be more comfortable if the road surface is of the iffy variety.

Red Bull (Rose Versand) AL-400 Werks

    2lm17r4.jpg

    • Pretty much stock changes limited to cockpit components - FSA FR-200 inline seatpost, FSA carbon wrap stem, FSA K-Force XC riser bars, ODI lock-on grips
    • RockShox Reba Race 100mm fork
    • Mixed XT/LX group
    • Magura Louise brakes (180mm rotors)
    • Mavic Cross Ride wheelset
Completely different beast from the other two and doesn't see half enough use - brilliant fun when taken off road around Killarney or Ballyhoura. Have to admit the lockout on the fork is prob my favourite thing about the bike - can't imagine climbing up anything without it.

    My Giant Brass2.
    09 model I bought late 08.
It's done me very well and never given me any problems that weren't my fault to begin with.

I've some one coming to look at it tomorrow so I've just given it a good clean and oil. Had the LBS make sure everything was working alright so hopefully it'll be bought tomorrow; I'll be sad to see it go.

    fart_by_cianryan-d3izckq.jpg

Stock except for the saddle post, grips and tyres.
Saddle post snapped, grips were worn out and I needed slick tyres (And one of them blew up).

Both bikes have hitches for both trailers, so four combinations possible. Nothing that would drive anyone wild with envy (apart from the Easy Pour mudflaps), but very useful.

    This is my commuting bike.

Fixed gear, but with flip flop hub. Currently riding single speed as I began to fear for my life riding fixed!

It has to be one of the most fun bikes i've ever used.

    162452.jpg

I've since added some mud guards to it, so it's not as "clean" looking.

Here's a reverse mirror of the reverse my space angle...

    164530.jpg

    A few points to make:

    1) You can see even more reflective crap on the wheel rims which were from the Race Around Ireland. Ref. deleted post from El Tonto asking what the stuff on my cranks were. I have since trashed those wheels and got new rims. They were really worn down and I also popped a spoke on the rear wheel. It may have cost a few quid to get new rims and spokes but at least it saved me a job in removing that stuff, which as I mentioned in a deleted post, is a bollox to get off. Don't put this stuff on your bike if you ever plan to remove it.

    2) As you can see, the sticker on the top tube near the seat post does not actually say "Your Ma". Sorry for disappointing you, Lukester. Ref. deleted post from Lukester asking what it said.

    3) Saddle is tilted a bit far down for gentleman's reasons. That has been rectified and was just for the Gorey.

I only saw this thread today, lolz, I'm a bit of a bike nut, got lots and lots in my shed, more of a hobby collecting than cycling, but lately starting to do projects with old frames, I'm not much of a mechanic..but with the help of a friend I hooked up some old bits and made this, wanting to get in on the whole fixie thing. It's so cool.

    fixief.jpg

The pic was taken right after it was finished, it's not so clean now..a bike I actually want to ride!

I'll put up more pics when I get the chance, I have a proper fleet of bikes, lots of old frames, not stuff that anyone else might like but I'm a bit of a magpie.

Actually, anyone have any advice for how to fit those bars you lean on? I like the fixie, but it's very upright and in the wind it slows me down. I met a guy at the lights with some bars I think he called clipless??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,317 ✭✭✭✭Raam

    what model Canyon is that?

I'm gonna guess the Ultimate CF Pro ;)

    Picture as required...
    164547.JPG

That's my CX bike. The brakes are brutal. I took it over the Sally Gap one day and nearly had kittens approaching some of the tigher bends. All the sparkly crap that you can see on the floor is the reflective stuff from the Cervelo. It has to be done in batches about a week apart cos my finger nails need time to recover.

Those of you who read/replyed to my topic about upgrading my bike from a 2010 Trek 1.2 Alpha will know I was interested in changing to a Canyon. However, after much thinking and deliberation, I decided to go with a Trek instead, after getting a reasonably good deal on it.

Trek Madone 4.5, my now pride and joy :D

    Full carbon frame
    Shimano 105 gear
    Standard Wheels

Overall very pleased with it. Only got it on Friday but couldn't go anywhere with it because of the weather. Managed 80k on it today though so over-the-moon so far anyway. :)

    Blast Ranger

Yes it's a €99 supermarket piece of crap. That said this is the bike that got me into cycling. I lived in town and it was great for commuting to work. However it was starting to fall apart. After having failed me one too many times (chain slipping off the gears) I asked work about the Cycle to Work scheme and that led me to the bike below.

    164763.jpg

    Cube Acid 2011

The first decent bike I ever owned and wow, it was such a step-up from the Blast Ranger. While still living in town I commuted with this. It was in one sense a bad purchase because I knew I was buying a house 35km away so a road bike would have made more sense. Regardless I have commuted 70km to and from work with this and it's great. I can hop off not feeling knackered.

It hasn't been changed in any way, I'll replace things if and when needed. The usual bits have been added such as decent front and rear lights, mud guard, cycle computer, a bottle cage and a pump.

    164759.jpg

    Giant Brass 2

I bought this for commuting short distances. I don't feel at all comfortable leaving the Cube locked up so I bought this from a fellow Boardsie to allow the Blast Ranger to slip away into retirement. According to his post a page or two back it isn't stock, he has changed some items. I've added mudguards and lights. It's a tough heavy auld thing but all it's being used for is some light commuting so it's perfect for that.

Get around town single speed, bought from chain reaction for peanuts. Gets me around town while looking funky, that's it's sole purpose:

    Squeeeeeee!!

    21kj6l0.jpg
Wilier Izoard XP, with Rival and a pair of Aksiums. Squeee!!! again. Going from steel to this is just, well, I don't know what. Soaks up rough roads, descends like it wants to eat up the corners.

    Slightly post-squee, atop Howth today:

Boardman Team Carbon bought in Aug 2009. Its done about 5000km. All standard except I changed the saddle for a Fizik Antares and I swapped out the stem for a 110mm one. Also fitted a Garmin 500 computer which is a great bit of kit. When I was buying the bike I heard bad things about lose wheeel spokes but I never had a problem and they still run true.

Only ever had 2 punctures on it :). A combinaton of good luck and the Continental GP4000 tyres I think

    Surly Cross Check
    x8AYt.jpg
DA Bar end shifters, 105 chainset, Tiagra FD + RD, Tektro CR-720 brakes, hub dynamo with B+M F/R lights, Brooks B17 saddle, Gatroskin tires, Time Allroad pedals. Bought ~3 years ago. Has not seen that many miles but has done the ROK a few times and a few other sportives. Very nice bike to ride, very comfortable for longer rides and can accomodate a wide ranger of tires. Has been mostly sitting in the shed for most of the last few months.

    Surly Big Dummy
    Kk4IF.jpg
    0aJbA.jpg
Nuvinci CVT Hub, Avid BB7 brakes, Hone spider with Blackburn S/S chainring, DMR chain tensioner, hub dynamo, Xtracycle longtail kit, Xtracycle kickstand, Fat Frank 2.35" tires, Brooks B17 saddle, DMR V8 pedals. Built this up about 2 years ago - try and use it once a week. It's a nice bike the ride. The fat tires give a lovely cushion and it's capable of carrying pretty much everything I throw at it. Sometimes I think I should have gone for a standard gearing setup and the Nuvinci is very tough and probably what is needed on a cargo bike.

    Brompton M3L
    hDuQc.jpg
    m6NpJ.jpg
    U2xfV.jpg
Standard Brompton 3 speed. Shown here with T bag. The best bike I have ever bought, bar none. The amount of freedom that it gives you is great. I've taken it on buses and trains, taken it into banks, post offices and shops and no-one prevents me from doing this. This is the bike that I now use the most and the one bike that I would keep without even a second thought.

I present you the Astra fleet starting with my gfs bike (ladies first.. etc..)

    bike1-6173.jpg

A lovely Specialized Dolce with a mix of sora/tiagra. It's two years old and has seen less than 50kms; needs more loving!

    bike2-6174.jpg

The commuting/cyclocross bike. This bike was originally Taxmans' but he sold it to another guy and I bought it from him in a like new condition. It's a great simple bike. I 've changed the saddle and the brakes from v-brakes to cantilevers and I am hoping to see a good xcross season this year.

    bike3-6175.jpg

My Specialized Rockhopper MTB. I bought that second hand from a fella in adverts. It might be an entry level mtb but it's really nice and sturdy, I have changed the disk brakes to Avid Elixir 5 and hoping to get out more with it. It handles really well the trails but it's quite heavy.

    bike4-6176.jpg

My first big love, the Planet-X SL Pro. Tiny helped me build this but has seen too many changes since then. Now it is with Record 11 and aluminum deda stem/bar. This bike has made me happy many times and I hope more to come.

    bike5-6177.jpg

    behind-6172.jpg

And the newest addition to the family and the greatest bike I have ever had. It's the new Planet-X Nanolight High Modulus with Super Record 11. I will start racing this bike from next week and see how fast I can break the carbon chainrings.

I wish I had more time to ride them, but I am doing my best!

You can see more pictures and individual weights of the components here.

    Now I have a fleet !

    IMG_2317.jpg

    Specialized Allez 16

Standard bike bar a set of Easton Aero wheels. The Alexrims that came with it went out of true very easily.

    IMG_2374.jpg

    Planet X SL Pro

SL Pro with SRAM Rival/Apex & Model B wheels. Haven't had a chance to take it for a spin yet unfortunately. Plan will be to put the Easton's on the PX.

Geo looks a lot more aggressive on the PX in comparison to the Spesh, can't wait to get out on it.

Not much of a fleet :)

    Carrera Gryphon.
My wife's bike and occasional commuter.
Mostly seen with various kids attached to it. I've been out on it a few times. Was expecting it to be horrible but in fact its not bad for shortish spins. She still won't let me put proper pedals on though.
    5911943968_4f96573469.jpg

    Charge Plug.
My commuter and first proper bike. Have swapped the chain around a few times. Flip flop hub which I ride with the freewheel having never gotten the hang of proper fixed riding (ie I keep falling off).
Nearly 3 years old now. Heavy enough and I don't like the bullhorns anymore, but apart from that it's been a great bike. Have ridden it through hail, rain, wind and snow and every pothole in south Dublin. I know Charge bikes aren't everyones cup of tea but I really like them. Lack of drops means I'll probably get a Charge Juicer to replace it whenever I can afford to.
    5911384427_1bef1a1599.jpg

Planet X SL Pro Carbon Ultegra
Bought in March of last year direct from PX. Rode it for the first year with SPD pedals, changed to Look Keo early this year. That's the only change I've made.
I love this bike more than is healthy or normal.

First bicycle purchased since 1988, I'll see about getting the rest of the (vintage!) fleet up sometime soonish:
    166463.jpg

Frame/Fork: 58cm Stevens Xenon Custom Carbon
    Groupset: Campagnolo Chorus 11 speed
    Wheelset/Tyres: Pro-Lite Como Clincher/Kenda Kaliente
Finishing Kit: Scorpo (Stevens' generic finishing kit)
    Bottle Cages: Pro-Lite
    Computer: Cateye Strada Double Wireless
    Pedals: Look Keo Classic

All lovingly assembled and commissioned by the lads at FitzCycles.
    BIG thanks to them! :D

I pushed the boat out a fair bit (by my standards!) on the frame/fork/groupset, and went for more... erm... 'economically viable' choices on the finishing kit and wheels/tyres. In due course, I'm sure I won't be able to resist throwing money at them too. :D

In the meantime, I'm thrilled and delighted with it. :)
