It's really not my bag at all, but each to their own. Personally, I couldn't imagine having an image or design branded on to my skin for life!

Both my sisters got a tattoo and both later regretted it. My younger sister got hers lasered off before her wedding, as she didn't want anyone to see it on her back as she walked down the aisle.

I reckon it is a decision not to be taken lightly....something you may think looks cool at 21 may not look so cool at 61!!

If you sport a tattoo, I'd classify you in the same category as an adidas wearing knacker.

What, regardless of what the person looked like, how they dressed, what social class they appeared to be in etc?

How about if you saw a doctor or any other middle-class professional who had say a nicely designed tattoo peaking out under their shirt?
    Are they knackers too then?
And don't tell me professionals don't get tattoos, I know a few who have them.

You can't write someone off as being like a 'knacker' just because they have a tattoo, irrespective of how they look, what job they have, what class they're in, and so on.
That's narrow minded, baseless and discriminatory.

Wow! some beautiful work there. The short list I have of potential artists to do my tattoo just got longer! sigh...
You must be thrilled with your tattoo. I would be if I had that on my arm!

don't have any but they're cool. Don't like when they're ickle and people look like they've stickers on them, but nice big ones with some effort put into them.

I've got 3 wolf moon tattooed on my inner thigh. It gets a hell of a reaction. Sure, I wake up bruised but by god it's worth it.

I also have WWJD on my arse. Surprising the amount of people who misunderstood Jesus's stance on intimacy.

IRA, your favourite band, RIP (insert name), Jesus, barbed wire, tear drops, Notre Dame fighting irish logo, your favourite football team, chinese writing, any logo, a cross (regardless of how religious you actually are), etc.

    They're all PURE CLASS!!!

Most are tacky. Especially very brightly coloured ones and large tribal designs. Have two big ones that I want removed.

As a lot of other people are saying it completely depends on the person and the tattoo.

I have two, neither of which I would class as either cool nor tacky, but they mean a hell of a lot to me and I wouldn't change them for the world. Decided I wanted my first one when I was 10, drew it out and stuck it on my wall and got it when I finally turned 18 and it means so much to me! It's a commemoration for a loved one but not in an obvious sort of way at all, it's like it's our little secret which I love. :)

My Dad got one when he was younger and regrets it and wanted it lasered off but we wouldn't let him. It's a part of my Daddy and I loves all of him so it's staying! :P

I think you have to really love what you're getting and that way there's no regrets. :)

Tribal I don't like myself but why brightly coloured? Surely it depends more on the quality of work rather than just how bright it is? though that applies to tribal as well (as regards quality).
I don't know how anyone could say these are tacky just because they're bright for example- Nick Baxter Heather McClean ok, those are two of the top artists in the world, and the beauty of tattoos is a subjective thing but tacky? nah.

While not tacky etc when they get to a certain size and full of colour along a full body part they just seem to lose all beauty to me no matter how well drawn.

    I like this one ^_^

Just dont like coloured tattoos much. Maybe a little red or one other colour, but I find them kinda jarring on the eyes. Just a personal preference. Both awsome designs, the skull tattoo isnt bad because its only three or four colurs and its not excessive.

    I've got five
1st-Daughter's name and d.o.b in a love heart on upper left arm
2nd-Irish flag on left side of upper chest
3rd-Daughters name in black running from inside of elbow on right arm to wrist.
4th-Missus name in Chinese on left inner arm
5th- Is the coup de grâce, the Irish national anthem from the top of my back to the bottom. that took 7 hours and worth every second.

If im out on the pull i always go for a woman who has a tattoo because later on i know she will do something that she really regrets :D

I've 8, including a colourful half sleeve that stops just above the elbow.

I like them all and thats all that matters, no one else has to live with them so peoples opinion on them, whether good or bad is pretty irelevant for me.

20+ years ago there was something almost cool about proper tattoos, not the cheap stupid ones done by drunk halfwits, but done by someone who knew what they were on about, now to many people have them and they are just common, and no i dont have any. Im a clean skin...

One thing that does my head in is young fellers getting their necks tattooed. 15 year old scobies who are inkless everywhere else, getting "MUFC" or some such sh** in script on their necks

Or skinny little hipsters getting big f**k off swallows done on their necks to go with their pork pie hats.

    Piss off lads :)

just wondering the general opinion on tattoos everyone seems to be getting them done so tacky or cool? and do you have one ? and if so do you regret it ?

    Depends on the tatoo.
Some are absolutely cool, others unbelievably tacky.

I've got one I designed myself and got some years back, a stylized celtic sea horse on my ankle. I still love it.

I thought the whole notion of getting tattoos was for originality. These days everyone seems to have one.

I can see this changing in the future where tattoo removal clinics will be set up.

Depends on the tattoo and where on the body it is.
some are cute, some are cool and some are ugly. It's all down to personal opinion.

Nike Logo tats are the biz. As are RA ones.

Sounds lovely, would love to see that!

I love tattoos. Obv there are the odd few that will give tattoos a bad name but there are some real artworks out there. I love having a look through the thread on people's pieces in the tattoo forum now and again.

I have 4, two small ones, one medium size one and one large piece too. All of them are fairly easy to cover up too.

I regret the first one I got done though. I didn't spend any time looking into the different artists and ended up getting it done in a place which is now closed down. The lines are shaky, colour has already faded and it's patchy where there should be even shading. My plan and hope is to get a cover up done but I've been on the fence about the design for 3 or 4 years now. I won't redo it until I'm sure of what I want.

I know I'll love them when I'm older. This argument that "you'll regret it when you're 60" rubbish doesn't hold with me. People who get a tattoo (most of them) are fully aware that it will be on their skin for life. My tattoos are a part of me a represent different parts of my life and when I'm older they will still represent that part of me. I will put the money and effort into getting them touched up when the time comes and will love them forever, as I'm sure most people with tattoos will too.

Some of them look a tad stupid, like some accountant or engineer knobend with a huge tribal tattoo all over his shoulder, wtf is that about. Or the ones where folks get their sirname in Irish on their arm, lol, handy if your arm gets mislaid and someone hands it in to the lost property.

I think good old fashioned tattoes look alright on jailbirds and the modern one on strippers and lap dancers.

    sofakingweetoddad otherwise

I love them as long as they have a meaning or the person has a good reason for getting one, not just an enormous tribe tat 'because it looks cool'. I've a good size one on my ribs/side that I got when I was 16, it has loads of sentimental meaning for me and I’ve never regretted it once.
