I wonder is Earthbound available on the 3ds virtual console? Might be an interesting way to play through it.

Although gah, it'd probably be 50hz wouldnt it :(

I'm convinced Teddy is some weird sexual predator. The S&M type zip, creepy comments towards Yukiko, hanging out with kids....where are you Chris Hansen?!

Earthbound won't ever get released on a virtual console or at least it's very unlikely. Also it would be in 60Hz since it never got a PAL release.

The guys at starmen.net have inside information from nintendo that they really wanted to bring earthbound to the virtual console but a chat with their lawyers about all the pop culture references told them that bringing it to virtual console would be too much hassle and cost too much money which is unfortunate.

Ah bugger, so like PDS, it really falls into the 'never to be released again' category!

Yes unfortunately. I'd really like more people to experience these games but it probably won't happen. Really annoying about PDS, there's so many companies that just don't look after their source code. It's like if MGM released Casablanca on VHS and then burnt all the original film reels.

That's a really good way of putting it! Why games aren't archived with the same care as film I'll never know. It makes me sad :(

It's not that at all. PDS one of the best games ever made. It's also in my top 5 games ever made. Therefore I want to own the original game.

There are some games I've bought purely for collectability, I'll fully admit that. PDS is not one of them. I just love that game.

And again, cheers for the lend Retr0, would have missed out on a classic if it wasn't for yourself!

Booted up Ys 1 and 2 Chronicles last night. It's my first Ys game and I ust say it's really good fun. The battle system is excellent. Instead of pressing an attack button you jus bump into enemies to do damage but the trick is you have to bump into them slightly off centre to not damage yourself. When you walk into a new area you'll have loads of trouble with the enemies. However once you level up one level or get a new piece of equipment the enemies are a breeze and you are literally mowing straight through them. It's simple and more fun than it sounds. The music and visuals are excellent.

Thought you'd played the (absurdly underrated and underplayed) Ys Seven as well?

Ordered a copy of the collectors edition of Ys The Oath in Felghana myself since it was on sale on vgplus. Has shipped so looking forward to it :)

I've all 3 collectors editions but not played any of them until now. Decided to take a break from Valkyria Chronicles 2 with it. I hear Oath in Felghana is far and away the best of the bunch.

Fair enough. Ys Seven was one of the nicest surprises I've played - very engaging stuff altogether, with the best non turn-based battle system I've seen in a (more action based) JRPG. Story was a bit crap at times but picked up in the second half when the threat was significantly increased. If Oath... is better than it should be something very special indeed :)

All I can think of when reading that is 'Joust'. Interesting battle mechanic!

    Somebody mention Joust?
I have that on the 7800, very good it is too.
Have it on the IkeaCab as well, the first one was a vertically orientated game while the sequel, despite looking very similar, was horizontal.
Still love the skipping trick when you hit the edge of the platform and your steed skids along on its nethers.

Lol never thought of it like that. I thought of a better name though, bump and grind mechanics.

Playing Links Awakening myself. Never played it before. I didn't know that the design was so similar to A Link to the Past. If I did I'd have played through it a lot sooner.
I couldn't believe the first boss is Moldorm from LTTP! - I hate that bastard so much! When I first played through LTTP back in the day, he was the one boss I got stuck on for ages.
Luckily though, being able to jump made it a lot easier. And while I'm on it, Link can jump?! Side scrolling sections?! Yoshi?! Goombas?! this is odd!

There were side scrolling sections in the original zelda and sure Zelda 2 was mostly side scrolling. They also returned in the excellent Oracle games.

I just got two hours of Link to the Past in, still remember the map inside out!

    Yay! How you finding it?

Actually to both yourself and Ciderdude, does your Trinitron automatically come on at 16:9 with widescreen bars?

Every time I turn mine on I have to press a button on the remote to turn it 4:3 and fill the whole screen. Tis a little bit annoying!

    Rez (in high definition)

I finally found out how to get high scores, and I feel stupid for not realising sooner.

Let the bad guys fire missiles?

8x Lock-on. I never realised how vital it was to the scoring system, mainly because I'm an idiot.

If you let the enemies fire you can lock on to their bullets and score more 8x lockons.

Just finished Ys 1. Credits are literally rolling as I type. Thank god they included a min walkthrough for it in the manual because it's very obtuse sometimes. I hear Ys 2 though is the real star of the package and a much better game, which is good because Ys 1 was loads of fun.
