You seem so sure yet a moment ago you said poles don't matter.

    Make up your mind.

I'll ask again do you think only the over 40s votes matter?

You are continually misquoting me. I never said that polls don't matter, i said that they can be wrong.
All votes matter obviously. My point is that many posters on this thread would in my opinion be under 40 as many older people who i know don't use Boards. I again could be wrong.
With regards my seeming so sure, i am only going on my own judgement.

Norris is a busted flush. If he wants to act in a dignified manner he can do so in two ways ......... (1) drop that imbecilic twittish accent and (2) announce that he is pulling out of the Presidential race. The latter will give his followers some closure on what was a non-event from the start.

or, you know, he could keep speaking the way he always has, in spite of some peoples bizarre fascination with his accent (as if it matters in some way), and continue to run, since he's polling quite well. If he's no threat, you surely wont mind if he uses his democratic right.

I have no problem with someone speaking with the accent in which they were reared. Neither do I have a problem with anyone who has to adopt an accent for work reasons or change of geography reasons. But for the life of me I cannot understand why someone uses a Terry Thomas type accent in a non comic scenario. This aping of English pseudo intellectual stuff is simply childish and irritating in the extreme. I'm sure a decent analyst could root out the problem. For problem it is ..... with me anyhow

Gay Mitchell is seeking the FG nomination. A great politician and a good man. I'd be delighted to see him as President. Get that rat out of there.

Eh, that's just how he speaks Spread, its shouldn't be a vote swinging issue.

Derek Mooney encapsulates what a lot of the over 40s think. The old foot in mouth disease. Today's Herald:

Did you read that? It doesn't sound at all like your position.

I would agree with that article, the norris campaign could have been better prepared and things could have been dealt with more cleanly, but I doubt it would have made a difference, the people who are championing this crap will champion it regardless of how seamless the argument against them is.
Almost three decades in Irish politics have shown me that Irish people are basically fair. They do not like seeing a decent man like David Norris being unfairly harangued and attacked, especially by those with nastier agendas.
I would especially agree with this, I don't think the campaign is taking much of a hit at all right now, although the airtime it is taking from norris' positive attributes may have consequences.

I thought you may have gotten sick from reading it, imagining Mooneys "campness"

Its his poor defence that you have a problem with now? back at the start of the thread it was his campness.

Gay Mitchell as FG's candidate, firmly trying to claw up the 'anti Norris' brigade fronting himself as 'Christian Democrat'. Im sure the Mail will be ferociously behind him Monday, but I've yet to see where his 'successes' are. And to those who take issue with Norris' voice, Mitchell's voice has a certain 'fruity' tome.

At least the homophile's might get a 'Gay' in the aras...

The Daily Mail has exported to Ireland its xenophobic, narrow-minded views. They are hounding Norris in the way that they do so to anyone who deviates from their "world-view". Saying that I will not be voting for Norris. Michael D for the Aras!

I don't even know Mooney but his article is just as i see D.N. Another thing is that since my original posts i have heard and read more about him however his campness is still a bug with me too.

You are fairly jumping to his defence and obviously a member of the Mutual Appreciation Society yourself. There are some cliques forming alright.

The article doesnt find much fault in Norris himself, rather, his campaign team.

The last thing this country needs is Gay Mitchell in Phoenix Park trying to push through the Catholic Church's agenda. I think we've all moved beyond that.

Derek Mooney was the political and policy advisor to a Cabinet Minister from 2004 to 2010 and has worked as a public policy consultant since the mid-90s
