Spotted on Saturday in Abbeyleix. It was part of the Gordon Bennet run. Anyone know what these are worth? Also is it a real RR Silver Ghost.

Well done, thats some spot, if I'd known that was around I'd have headed there just to see that car. It is a genuine Ghost and has had a more than eventful history. Price? No idea but it was up for auction for an estimated £300,000 seven years ago. Theres a lot more on that car and its history here, some of the choicer bits include.......

In 1949 it is recorded in the ownership of P.J. Lumsden of Henley Hall, Ludlow and in 1952 was owned by Dr. H.O. Attlee of West Ludlow, a cousin of the then Prime Minister, Clement Attlee. Dr. Attlee in later years related how the Silver Ghost had been discovered in 1948, by that time only in rolling chassis form and providing the driving power for a water pump in Shropshire.
The coachwork features a two-piece opening windscreen and open drive chauffeur’s compartment with leather upholstery. Dashboard equipment includes a correct type Elliott speedometer and period pressure gauge while a most distinctive feature is the electric flashing light system for the chauffeur, operated by the rear seat passengers providing instructions regarding direction, speed, stopping, etc. – a most delightful accessory.

That would be normal. RR only made the chassis, not the body. They were made by coach builders, like Mulliners. Each produced their own versions of the body to fit the various chassis. It was only in the 50s that RR made the whole car.

Was just about to point it out.

I saw a thread somewhere else and those Marina flaps have been fitted to over 25 cars the last time I checked

Carrigtwohill, Cork. It's not really a classic, but is interesting enough - (especially here in Ireland). It says 120L on the bonnet - that's how they are called in Czech and in England they are called Estelle (it's a RHD, so not sure why is there a 120 badge). 120=1200cc, 105=1050cc etc. Engine is in the rear and the radiator is in front (which isn't the best combination in hot summer while you're stuck in the traffic). This car handles like a motor boat and needs some skill when driven on snow, because the front of the car is very light. Very easy to maintain and really immortal, however they are slow, loud and vast majority of them in Czech are scrapped but you can still see them in rural areas and they are still available to buy.

    snmek003.jpg

This is the same place 3 years ago (picture is taken from the bus). The green is 110R, very popular car in Czech and price of this car is going up every year (hopefully it wasn't scrapped). You can see next to that blue Transit light of another white 120. The red one seems to be ok back then - somebody must have wrecked it meanwhile. Shame, because put this kind of car back on the road is matter of one full box of parts (if it's mechanically sound).

    This is all gone now...

There were probably two more Skodas... behind the gate on the right side..

Volvo 245 i saw yesterday in Cobh, Cork.

    2 - series number
    4 - number of cylinders
    5 - number of doors

(as far as I now this is applicable only on 200 series...)

They were all badged as 240 (260 for 6-pots) from around 1983 onwards. The 140 and 340/360 series also followed that numbering system, though the 360 was a 2.0 litre 4 cylinder.

It's interesting seeing the mix of Zastava and Yugo branding - the company was Zastava (Fiat bought them out in 2008), but Yugo was the brand they mainly used for export markets.

Tofaş is an even more obscure manufacturer - from Turkey, again making old Fiats under licence, but this Dogan yoke is actually a facelifted 131, and apparently the upmarket version :)

Tofaş currently manufacture the Fiat Doblo and Fiorino vans which are sold here.

You are pretty much bang on, although the 260 was discontinued in 1982/3 when the 760 arrived.

Later models like the 850 are still referred to as 854 (Saloon) and 855 (Estate) within the inner Volvo circle.

that's probably an 80s car, they were making them till 986

    IMG_1220.jpg

were still being built in a factory in Yugoslavia after the French stopped theirs in 1992.

    IMG_1231.jpg

I didnt think these still existed, it must be over 40 years old....I quite like the idea that its just an every day car.....

    IMG_1264.jpg

    IMG_1263.jpg

    what are the these two?

    IMG_1262.jpg

I know that these were sold here as Fiat-Iveco...there is one abandoned in a field outside Cork city........

This is a Zastava lorry/truck and as mentioned by zilog_jones, they were bought out by Fiat in 2008

One Volvo mechanic was explaining these codes to me years ago, so you're probably right, because I'm not really sure. By the way that 2.0 litre 4cyl engine in 360s was a Volvo engine and those 1.4 and 1.7 in 340s were from Renault. I used to drive daily for almost two years a Volvo 360 and even that it's not widely accepted by enthusiasts as a real Volvo this 3 series were great cars. They had Leaf springs on the rear so they were like nailed in the corners but on the other hand this wasn't that great feature on the bumpy roads and potholes, because the rear was bouncing, therefore the drive wasn't that comfortable. They also had transmission between the rear wheels so the weight distribution was better and the car was less likely to understeer. That 2.0 had 100HP which was really enough for this kind of car and had pretty good acceleration. The air vents were adjustable for each passenger separately, so driver could turn off the rear vents and use just the front. It had a small light above the ignition box when the door was opened, rear arm rest and really comfy seats etc etc.

I still have this car, but for last three years it's sitting and rotting. It had some troubles to pass the NCT back then and at this point fate of this car is in the stars. I will see how expensive it will be to put it back on the road, but i really don't know when it comes to this and as the time goes the chances are smaller and smaller. The guy who has this car on his field said that it would be great to put there 2.3 engine with turbo. I think it's really a good idea, question is if the state of the car will be good enough for this (wheel arches and doors on drivers side were already quite bad). Volvo 300 is a great car, that's for sure (until today i still have the Volvo keyrings on my keys to remind me this car). Sorry for offtopic, my apologies.. Little bit of nostalgia fell upon me.

Don't have my camera phone with me today but a lime green E21 323i on ZV plates just passed me in the street in Newbridge. Nothing unusual expect the colour some might say.....only its been converted into a pickup . Not really a fan I must say...its all been checker-plated and the backlights were not in keeping with the car....looked like trailer lights and had a massive exhaust hanging off it which was totally wrong.
