That makes the one pictured a real rarity so?

I seen a 94 plate up in Westport when I was last up there. And I seem to remember another one knocking about somewhere (forgotten where I see it though)

There used to be a red one in Galway with about 6 Cibie Oscars on the front of it. Weren't they introduced to the market when the Peugeot 305 van went out of production.

That Satellite.. Is that the same one which was last year in Kilbeggan? I have pictures somewhere, but not on my current hard-drive. I remember that the other one had a Mod-top, so it's the same one with new roof or different one... Cool car anyway (like the others of course )

btw. these kind of pictures always reminds me, that I was born in the wrong place at the wrong time... 1950s somewhere around Detroit would be ideal :)

That's right, I think 1991 was the last model year for the 305. My uncle had 3 or 4 of them in a row (305's) ... there was plenty of poke in the 1.9 diesel and it remains the most comfortable vehicle I've ever sat in. They should never have stopped producing them. Still looks modern today.

Well spotted G Luxel, and a fabulous find Do-more. Its an Opel Admiral alright and that version is one of the rarest cars anyone here will ever see. The car was built as a 4 door saloon and a 4 door convertible, the 2 door above was done to special order by Hebmueller (he of the Beetle Convertible fame) or by Glaeser, a coachbuilder from Dresden (later IFA-DKW and then Wartburg). The above car is by Hebmueller as can be seen by the rear wheel covers and the design of the roof mechanism.

The Admiral was one of Opels most succesful pre WWII cars, it was a cheap concurrent to Horch, Maybach and Mercedes. They were well liked by the Army and many of them were commandered (ie stolen) by junior officers to use as cars for the war effort. As a result very few survived. A lot of the 4 door saloons were converted into ambulances, and the production line was given over to the Opel Blitz, a very popular light army truck. Post war, there was a demand for cheap cars and light commercials and a new production of the Admiral was never considered.

There are literally only a handful of this car pictured here in existence, its not unknown for one to pop up in Eastern Europe after being in a shed for a few decades so the fact that it was spotted driving around makes it all the more remarkable.

Thanks for the info bijapos and G Luxel.

It had a German SI plate on it so from the Siegen-Wittgenstein area so it had probably travelled around 320 miles to get to Smygehuk (the most southern point in Sweden) where I spotted it assuming it came via the Travemunde-Trelleborg ferry. Good to see old car being used and I guess this one gets used a bit, if you look closely you can see it even has a ball hitch on it!

Yep, both those pics taken in Ystad, Sweden.

The registration info shows it was imported here in 1995.

They seem to have quite a following here, I've seen quite a few of them about, this one had a DKW owner's club Sweden sticker on it.
