They are starting to listen to what people want.
Android has all these features already. Seems to me 'what people want' is Android.

But android hasn't got the iOS apps, that's why I dumped it for iOS.
The draw of decent apps that work and don't look like arse was too much.

i'm surprised they didnt add a theme function...something that lets users change the look and feel of the device to personalise it more...like having the ability to change the lock screen and making icons larger or smaller etc

lol..iOS is miles ahead of android in features I'd actually deem important..such as apps, accessibility, intercface, Appstore etc..
I've went for the motorola xoom as I couldn't get the ipad2 in a hurry and while hardware wise it's a nice piece of kit on a par with the ipad Honeycomb really needs to step up to match iOS.
There's barely 200 honeycomb apps on the market for it and a lot of the current ones are pretty flakey and crash out... I still like it but widgets are a gimmick and nothing more..all they do is drain your battery...it's not like you're going to be looking at your screen 24/7.
Google really need to start locking down the android market,..last week they had to delete another 26 apps from it and good god...I have to use avg antivirus on it :D
Competition is great and I see both Apple/Google being the dominant mobile sector for years to come.

99% of winterboard themes are ****ing disgusting, no way Apple let people do anything like that.

Another little feature in iOS5 is the option to use the LED light on the iPhone for notifications. A welcomed addition for many.

Are the widgets in the notification centre customizable? As in can you turn off the stock and weather and replace them with others?

It seems the Notifications themselves are customizable (like the option to show them on the lock screen, and how many notifications you want on the list), but no word yet if the Widgets are customizable. It would be a great place to put WiFi and Bluetooth toggle switches. Hopefully it'll be an option by final release.

Exactly what I was thinking. :)

For 3GS users, everything seems to be working and available except Tabbed Browsing and Reader in Safari which isn't a big deal anyway. More importantly, Notifications work. It also appears that iMessages is an Email based client, but it isn't clear how it distinguishes an iMessage from an Email. I assume if a message is sent from the Messages App, the recipient will receive it in their Messages App.

Do 3GS users get access to the new ring and text tones this time around?

Im not using it myself, just read it online so not sure. Was this not accessible on iOS4?

Nope.. Us 3GSers were left with the original set of ringtones last time.

I see that iTunes in the Cloud works only for Apps and Books for an Irish iTunes account - Not for music yet.

A US-based account shows that iTunes can sync your iTunes purchased music in different places.

no you don't, you do if you blindly install and allow everything access to everything and install dodge apps.

had more written but its going way of topic. suffice to say you are comparing a brand new system to a mature iOS, compare gingerbread to iOS4 (and 5)

Not sure if the feature of Lion would lead me to upgrade, the only thing that will would be the hope that my wireless would not keep dropping. never been able to sort that. only occurred since SL update :( so fingers crossed this will work!

you can turn off the stock and weather widgets no problems at all.

hope we're able to develop our own widgets. connectivity toggles are a must!!

SL was actually €29. Like SL, Lion appears to be an upgrade license, where as Tiger and all previous upgrades were full licenses that cost about €120.

Chrome wouldnt work for me, switched to Safari, it was sorted. Not to sound patronising, but try a restart?

They're pushing lion as much as an upgrade as say leopard or panther. SL was always acknowledged as an under the hood/performance update than anything else.

    Yup.

Not much there at the moment but check back in a few days, the list should be constantly updated.

    Bloody right!
The more customisable the better. Why go half-way Apple?

cause then we'd have the android gimps saying Apple copied them totally.
Whereas if we do it in drips and draps they'll forget about the first few things.
And sure we all know they copied the original iphone's copy and paste function anyway ;) MS ripped us off too :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,714 ✭✭✭✭Sad Professor

Android users saying Apple copied them? lol. Android probably wouldn't exist (as it currently is) if not for the iPhone. The early Android prototypes bore no resemblance to what Google eventually came out with. Pre-iPhone, Android looked like a Blackberry. Post-iPhone, it looked like an iPhone. And now Android fanboys are complaining that Apple copied Android's notifications system? Pfft!

But to hell with all this who-copied-what crap. Whatever works best, I say. Competition is good for everyone.
