Putting this up now to give everyone the heads up. No word yet on whether there's going to be a stream. But live updates will be available from the usual places.

And just to be clear, the iPhone 5/4S is NOT expected to be announced at today's event. Per Apple's own press release, this keynote will be primarily focused on Mac OS X 10.7, iOS 5 and iCloud. The next-gen iPhone isn't expected until September.

I'm actually really excited by today's announcements. Software is what Apple really excels at.

Any final thoughts before the keynote?

EDIT: full video of the event is now up

iOS 5 is what I'm really interested from this, expecting a big update from Apple. Hopefully they can optimise it to use the iPad and iPad 2's power, there's so much scope for improvement with the Android tablets gaining ground.
iCloud could go either way, hopefully they add some great features at a low price, otherwise it's just another cloud based system.
Can we expect a surprise maybe too??

    List of liveblogs

MacRumors doesn't have it's usual link to the podcast that comes hours after the event that you can bookmark and watch later without it being spoiled (sorta like the football match you missed because of work and you don't want any spoilers), I'll post it here later if that changes though.

In other news, the Apple Store is still up. Mac App store to be main venue for Lion (etc) so!

iOS 5: New notifications system and over-the-air updates.

iCloud: Replacing MobileMe, wireless syncing with iPhone/iPad.

One More Thing: MacBook Air refresh.

There are rumours about a new Time Capsule running iOS as well. That and the Air are the only likely hardware announcements, but they could just as easily give them a quiet update in a few weeks.

sold my iphone 4 last week, couldnt be bothered waiting for ios5, apple are too slow to roll out major feature updates,

was sick to the teeth of the same boring UI, even after heavily tweaking via cydia. Im still interested to see what ios5 will bring, Id imagine they will go down the android ui approach and hopefully bring widgets, but as i said too little too late, thought id never jump ship, but me and apple are finito !

I'm hoping for some interaction between the iPad and iPhone. I'd love to have them connected to each other (Bluetooth) and have things like SMS pushed to iPad, so you can read and reply without touching the iPhone, etc.

I'm sure there are loads of cool things that could be done with the two devices linked that I can't think of right now.

I think some other tablet has this sort of feature already but can't remember which...

The newer notifications would interest me, as would the rumours of Apple doing a deal with Nuance - the owners of Dragon Dictation. A new lockscreen with widgets'd be nice too, but I won't hold my breath.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,487 ✭✭✭banquo

Regarding widgets and notifications, they have to find a way of doing it that doesn't look like Android got there first.

Agreed for the most part. I'm waiting to see what iOS 5 will bring for the original iPad. If it's nothing major, I think I'll be hoping on the Android 3.1 express next month with the Tab 10.1

I'm just saying, it's borderline unwatchable. Better off following liveblogs.

    Engadget have a good one.

Yeah, I'm not sure how that is going to work. I assume you won't need to burn a disc since he said no reboots. Although how that is supposed to work is another question.

    iOS Notifications. Great start!

Yes, I read that somewhere too....I really don't expect it to work on the 3GS.

    Apple want us to upgrade!

Forgive me for being a newbie but I bought my first MacBook Pro a month ago.
Im using 10.6.7. Will the new OS be like an update from the App store or will I need to back up everything and start from scratch like a windows reformat?

Looking forward to the iOS info now.. The mail doesn't make much of a difference to me seen as I use gmail online anyway, and don't really need offline access to mail much.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,401 ✭✭✭Nonoperational

It will just be an upgrade. You apparently won't even need to reboot. Just install it like your installing an app.

You definitely won't have to do a clean install. You'll be able to upgrade without losing your data. How exactly this is going to work with Lion remains to be seen.

Tabbed browsing, whoohoo! That definitely won't be on the 3GS. Assuming it is on the iPhone and not just the iPad. I'm not sure if that was made clear.

Volume controls to take a picture, very surprising but great feature.
